OS X Server :: OD (10.3.9) Server Users On Tiger Client?

I have updated some of my client machines to 10.4.9. My servers are still 10.3.9. My OD server is also 10.3.9. When my clients log on to the Tiger client machine (mobile users with local home directories) I can't view the loggin items pane in the "system preferences." The "loggin itmes" pane stalls and does not show the items listed. The user accounts seem to work fine and all managed preferences (live default website, several afp volumes logged in, and special dock configurations all seem to work fine. This has happen on all my Tiger client machines and to all OD users. It's weird. Also, all the manged preferences are on the groups the users belong to, not on the user records.

Reguarding Lion Server upgrade strategies: I have a macmini running 10.6.8 client serving Filemaker files, acting as File Server, and running a development web server. It runs as a normal non-admin user (nomad) utilizing a seprate admin account with admin privilages (guardua),for security.  I run multiple shell scripts, apple scripts and Filemaker scripts. Many of which which use hardcoded file locations. Some bash scripts run under the non priv user other under the admin account.  I also have a thrid user account which acts as rsync destination. Considering most files and programs are under the non-privileged user, I'm wondering how this user / admin account set- up will work when transitioning to Lion Server. (?) Will ther server app and scripts work with this set up?  Do I need to upgrade the non-admin user (nomad) to admin privilages? I'm user sure how users and admin users work under Lion Server.Should I upgrade to Lion then to Lion Server? --Or-- perhaps do a clean install of Lion/server then reload from timemachine? Start from scratch?

I'm thinking about purchasing a Mac Mini Server instead of an xServe.It will be used to serve client account http://www.apple.com/server/macosx/f...anagement.htmlWe have 3 iMacs and 1 (possibly 2) Macbooks - there will be 6 client accounts. How will the Mini cope if all 4 clients are logged in at the same time?Or should I just purchase an xserve?

When I try to purchase the Lion Server from the App Store it displays a message that OS X Lion is also required uand I have to purchase both even when I am logged in and next to the Server item the client version confirms that I have already purchased it with a "download" button - the app has been downloaded but cannot install it as it is waiting for the app store to download the server components... and what if I just want to use it as a client only? Any suggestions besides the obvious $80 purchase.

I have a few labs that will be running Tiger. I have an XSERVE that is running Tiger Server. All of my users are stored on a Windows 2003 server in AD.
I know how to bind an OSX machine to AD. What is the best way to set up my mac labs/Xserve so that when the users log in they get their home folder on the Windows server but have their preferences managed by Workgroup manager?

I have a server in our DMZ that connects to Active Directory LDAP server (non-ssl over 389) but no objects actually show up in the directory editor. I get a green light in my Network Account Server, but queries against LDAP return no results. My end goal is to be able to dictate to Profile Manager what LDAP groups are allowed to enroll devices. I tested on our internal network on a test server and get the same results. Anyone have any luck connecting a Lion Server to LDAP and actually being able to view and utilize users and groups?

Today when we started trying to add users to our server (we use it only for afp access at this time), we noticed that new users belonging to a group "storage" were unable to login from client machines via afp (clients both 10.7.2 and 10.6.8). Â
When we tried editing the users accounts to change which groups they belonged to, it would appear in workgroup (and server preferences) that the changes would take but there was still no access.Â
As a test case, we modified an existing user who had no issues logging in to belong to a diffenent group and have different sharepoint access. The changes looked good in workgroup and server prefs, but when the user logged in, he was only able to acces his old sharepoint and not the new one (and since his permissions to the old were removed, he shouldn't have access to that sharepoint).Â
Also, for some reason users cannot be deleted within workgroup manager any more. The login used was the diradmin account.

I have a Mac Mini Lion Server which is running open directory. I have several users which I created a while ago and they are able to login to the server from both Lion and SL clients. I created a new user account today and for some reason I am unable to login using the new user account from a SL computer. I've been able to login using a lion client, but SL, no dice. Â

I have a Lion Server running here on my company. Everything works just fine. With screensharing I can access it, I can start the Server app on the server OK> However I cannot open the server app on a client machine.It shows the Name/Password window, but denies access, even with my admin login credentials. I can access the server with Server Admin, but the Server app only works on the host machine. I presume it must be a DNS issue? I do not like to open the server app on the server because it shows, that it uses 40% of the processor ALL THE TIME, which I also think very strange. Â

I have one client that my server "serves". I just replaced the hard drive and installed 10.5 on it. (So, my server is at 10.4 but the client is at 10.5). I'm trying to get so I can log in. I figured out how to get the client to see the LDAP (or Open Directory). The machine is now "managed". I can tell because the log in screen has my own message on it. When I type in my user name and password, it finds it but then it says that there has been an error. So, its almost working but not quite. Can a 10.5 client work from a 10.4 Open Directory server?

I'm trying to connect to a remote Linux machine, which is running a VNC Server, from my Mac running Lion. I know there are third-party VNC clients but I'd like to use the built-in VNC client that is used for screen sharing. When I do a Finder Go to vnc:\<ip address>:5901, I get a screen sharing login prompt and it's asking me for both a username and a password. Normal VNC clients only ask for a password. I can't seem to connect even if I clear the username part and enter the just the password. I've confirmed that I can connect to the VNC server from a Windows box running TightVNC. When I run TightVNC on the Windows box, I'm only prompted for the VNC server password and it works fine. So what am I missing when using the built-in VNC client? Why is it asking me for a username? Is there a hidden VNC username on the server that I could supply that would get me past this?Â

I open the ICAL Service Administration guide, but explain only how configure the Server ( security, users, etc) but when the client open ICAL, i dont know what to do.
In this moment I work with a published ICAL between my WEB Service ( because I dont know how work with ICAL Service), but the alarms and attachements dont appears

I have an issue with my Windows 7 Client's they can connect my VPN SLS 10.6.8 but I tried to ping the server IP and get no answer. Â
Replay from x.x.x.x: Destination host unreachable. I did all registry changes for W7 Ultimate 64bits but no chance. All my Mac's work fine with all server services.Â

HOW MANY SIMULTANEOUS CONNECTION can I use from a Windows client (like xp/Seven) to a Mac server (Lion Server) using the VNC service? There is a limit? We have some developers that work for IOS and we would try to buy a Server Pro for all the users and our developers can use the server from remote.

I have been running Time Machine on my iMac since I got it. I installed server and now I notice that the server app has Time Machine as well but its turned off. My oringinal Time Machine in system preferences seems to be running like it always has. What is the difference between the two?Â

I want to be able to disable Mission Control for client computers. We are a school with a 1:1 computer setup and it is too easy for the kids to swipe their desktop away when a teacher walks by. I know I could manually disable the gesture, but I can't disable to my knowledge by permissions and I would rather disable the whole thing all together.

I'm running server 10.4.8, how do I authenticate NT domain users on this? I tried to set the server to be a Backup Domain Controller, but then it wants Open Directory to be in replica mode. The problem there is that it needs an Open Directory server to replicate.

I have a Mac Pro that is running OD to create users. My problem is that the users that I have to give macs to, need rights on their machines to install programs because of all of the development software that these individuals need. I don't want them to be able to make a local user so that they cant unbind these machines from the OD server.
They still need access to terminal. I don't want them to be able to boot into the recovery partition or terminal to get super user rights (thus changing passwords or adding/deleting users). I have restricted their rights to access "Users & Groups" through OD Policies but that's about all I have done.

I bought a Mac Mini Server yesterday and set it up successfully (Set OD, etc). Everything was working great until I went back and tried to create new users via the server app. As of now, it gives me the error "SEUserErrorDomain error1" and tells me that it cannot create the user. Even though it says that, it will still show up in the user list with the "blue globe" (that I believe is from OD?) but disappear the moment I drill into it and try to save anything. Workgroup Manager will allow me to create the user, but it does not show up in the user list in the server app so I cannot enable certain services for the user (i.e. assign folders for share point, etc). Â
P.S. Apple tech support had me reinstall the 10.7.4 combo update - no help. They also had me use disk utility to repair permissions - no help. P.S.S. On a side note, I did install Samba 3 on the server via mac port to try and help with LDAP auth (I ended up going with pGina for my windows users), but I have no clue how to uninstall it.

Im having problem problems all over Lion Server. I can't manage Profile Manager on client machines..nothing authenticates. So I thought I would rebuild the Open Directory replica functions....however in recreating an Open Directory I get an error.
"Cannot replicate a directory with augment user records. Your server cannot become a replica of 'server.com' because its directory contains augment user records. Please refer to the Open Directory Administration Guide for more information about this issue."
How do I get rid of the augment users records? By the way..I set this server up per Lynda Lion Server essential training. Part of the server functions with File Sharing and users accessing folders..but Profile Manager does not authenticate on client machines.

Im running a golden triangle setup.. a very basic and simple one..
-OD Master running 10.7.3
-clients running 10.7.3 as well..
-AD running windows 2008 server.
OD Master is bound to AD and i can see all the AD users and groups..the problem im facing is i cannot add AD users to OD groups under workgroup manager eveytime i add an AD user to the OD group, it shows as "NOT FOUND" and it shows aa weird ID "0433BF34-"

We have an exiting network of approximately 50 Macs running anything from Lion to Leopard. Obviously there are existing local accounts on these machines.What I'd like to do is to administer these users and machines through Lion Server so that I can use the existing user information for all of the services provided by Lion Server, but to do so without altering the way the end user operates and without any data loss.I am having difficulty finding any information on this, but surely someone has installed Open Directory into an existing Mac network.

I'm trying to make it so that my students have the ability to log onto our iMacs (all running Lion) through our Mac Mini Server (also Lion). I recently had to go through drastic changes in order to simply create a directory administrator, yet it still persists. The active directory isn't binded onto the server yet. When I try to bind the my Active Directory with the Mac Mini, I get the following popup after logging in as the Directory Admin:Â

I have (3) 10.7.4 servers, one is the master and the other two are replicas (192.168.123.127 and 192.168.123.129) When i add new users thru server.app or workgroup, no users are showing up on the replicas in the log of the server i get this error many times per minute:

I have a machine running OS X Server v10.4.11, and I'm trying to export some NFS mounts. I have the intended shared directory (a folder called NetBackups on a disk called xRAID L) added in Workgroup Manager, with access set to "World", but if I issue the command to another OSX machine (IP has been replaced with 0s) "sudo mount -t nfs 000.000.000.000:/Volumes/xRAID L/NetBackups test", I get an access denied error.
