My 2010 MacMini freezes and show a black courtain sometimes. This happens when gets back from suspend mode. The RAM has passed a test memory and it hasn´t any problem.

I'm having a problem with my PowerBook G4 where is goes into sleep mode at random times. Mostly when I am streaming video..or at times the fan comes on, it sounds super high then boom. sleep mode again. After hitting the space bar, it comes back on, but it'll happen again shortly after. View 5 Replies View RelatedAs of last night, my MBP started acting very strangely. After entering my username and password, it would enter the desktop for a short period of time and then kick back into sleep mode; the screen would turn back to black. Sometimes it will let me stay on the desktop for a long time and other times it will hardly let me stay on the desktop. I called apple support and they had me start the computer in safe mode; even then it occasionally kicks me out.
The tech guy said that it was a "strange software issue" and not a hardware issue. I thought it was a hard drive issue; my hard drive makes an odd sound when it unlocks (a grinding sound), but it has been doing that for quite some time with no issues. I tried to reset the SMC and it didn't do anything.
How should I remedy this problem? Is this a hard drive issue? Hard drive failure? Has the grinding sound finally caught up with me? I am running OS X; not leopard or snow leopard. I know I need to upgrade, but this shouldn't be happening.
My iMac often freezes in sleep mode. I'm running a 21.5 inch, late 2009 machine with OSX Lion 10.7.3.
View 5 Replies View RelatedMy Windows XP virtual machine is 'stuck' in suspend. All items in the 'Virtual Machine' menu are greyed out except 'Suspend' which is ticked. The VM window itself is just black, and the VM list has a spinny gear next to the virtual machine. It's been like this for days.
I've used Time Machine to restore to a previous known good VM file, but that didn't work. So I'm wondering if it's a cache file or some such.
I desperately need access to this for my work. No point asking Parallels support, they don't speak English (I discovered after paying).
When I installed VM Fusion and Windows XP (2) on my 13" MacBook I was told that I could exit Windows by selecting "suspend guest" from the drop-down menus, but when I do, I get a humungous "click triangle", and it sits there in the center of my screen until I click on it . . . . which boots up Windows again!
The only way I can close Windows is by going to the Fusion menu and selecting "shut down Fusion".
Also, I notice that I can't always activate or click on the Mac menu bar at the top of Windows to see those choices. In fact, when it does appear, it appears rather 'ghostly' and maybe only half of it appears - and is completely without function. When I jiggle the mouse pointer around awhile, it may appear, then I can shut down Windows.
Whenever I close my computer to put it to sleep and then open it up later, the computer freezes and I am unable to type in my password to unlock my computer and am forced to hold down the power button until it turns off and then reboot it. This has become a major pain and has only started today but has happened 3 times already. I have an Apple Bluetooth Keyboard and a Magic Mouse connected to my computer and am running 10.6.2 if that helps. I'd rather not have to shut down my computer all the time and I'm no longer covered by any protection.

Is it possible to switch off the mains when the Mac Mini is in sleep mode?
I've only had MBPs in the recent years and appreciate their low impact on my electricity bill very much - letting them sleep unplugged does make a difference. Now I'm contemplating a Mac Mini and while I know its power consumption is as low as with the notebooks (if not lower without display), I'm wondering if the Mini needs the current in sleep mode. I assume it does, but I'd rather know than guess.

Is there a way to set it so that when I enter XP (bootcamp partition) from VMware that instead of having to restart windows every time I can just suspend it like you can with just VMware and windows without the partition?

Than the problem continued to airport it either does not turn on or it shows it on but still no connection to the net if i connect via Ethernet and leave airport on Ethernet will disconnect and unable to reconnect again if i turn airport of at least Ethernet works. Freezing happens after a longer period of sleep mode.

View 1 Replies View RelatedSo this past week when my mini hasn't stayed in sleep mode, it shuts itself down about a minute later after being in sleep mode. I haven't changed any of my settings in a year and a half, normally it would stay in sleep mode until i come back to it and logged on again. When it does shut down i just cannot power back on i have to unplug the adapter then replug it in for it to start up again. I've searched google and on here for possible ideas. I wouldn't think it to be overheating since I'm not running any applications when i put it in sleep. It might be the power supply since i have to do that process to get it to work again. Let me know what could be causing this or ways to troubleshoot this problem.
View 2 Replies View Relatedmy macbook pro today started to freeze at logo scrren. I tried to start it up in both safe and recovery modes but it doesn't work either. I got the system to start in safe mode only once and the scrren looked like in the attached image.When I tried printing the screen instead of taking a photo with my mobile, the image appeared to be normal (without those noisy rectangles), but it wasnt. Then itried restarting but it's been impossible. As i said i tried booting on safe and recovery modes but the circle below the apple logo appèars and then it freezes again. I read about aproblem with the graphic card similar to mine in earlier models, I don`t know if it is the same problem.Â

It's a 2.16 intel Core 2 duo with the ATI Radeon X1600 128MB video and I'm running OSX 10.7.3. It started happening on Snow leopard so I thought maybe upgrading to Lion would fix it but it has continued exactly the same. I've had an issue for a while now where the computer would just freeze all of a sudden. It happened after a few days at times while sometimes it happen right after a reboot. Â
Here are the things I've tried.Â
1. I upgraded to lion
2. I replaced the ram
3. Look at the crash log but found nothing
4. Ram mem check utility but it found nothingÂ
I can boot the computer in safe mode by holding the shift key and it works perfect with no freezing but I loose audio support becuase I think it's not loading the audio drivers. Question is: Can I select what drivers I want on boot when starting in regular mode not safe mode in order to try to disable drivers until I find the issue? Is there anyplace else that I can find which driver caused the computer to freeze after a freeze/crash? If I can ID the driver is there a way to update/replace the driver if it doesn't come up in "software update"? I'm thinking it's the video driver becuase I would occationally get some weird things happening on the screen that I attributed to an older display.Â

Whenever we upgrade the Mini to an iMac, I have this vision of getting a vertical mount to hang our 20" Cinema Display under the counter in the "bill paying/desk area" of our kitchen. The issue I have is that I'm looking for something that will hang over the back of the display that you can hold the Mini in that does not take up the screws needed for the mount.
I'm thining of bending some Lexan to fit it in (see picture) unless anyone knows of something similar already out there to purchase.
Then I can just get a wireless keyboard/mouse and it will be a clutter-free area.
Note: I've tried safe mode, and I don't have this problem there. But when I'm in safe mode, I can't get to the internet, so it's useless.I have an ibook g3. I don't know the exact kind, but it has dual usb ports and a translucent keyboard.
I know my g3 is old, but it works just fine. I can start up, log in, and my desktop will come up just fine. I can run any of the applications I have installed. I can get on the internet. I can do pretty much anything... for ten minutes.
After being on my g3 for a little while, it starts to go slower and slower and slower until I get the little rainbow pinwheel thing and it freezes up. Then I have to turn it off by force. BTW, when all of this starts, it doesn't really heat up or make any odd noises.
I have just purchased a new Mac Mini (MC816B/A), it is to replace an old PC. The PC is running two monitors through a dual display graphics card, and in the short term I'd like to use these until I can afford Apple displays.Â
The back of the Mini has an HDMI port, Firewire and a Thunderbolt port. How can I use my two regular displays (they are TFT and have VGA and DVI connections)? There are also 4 x USB ports as well.Â
My 27" iMac will only start in safe mode. I need to back it up before service, but it will not read (or see) any external drives that I plug in. How do I back it up in safe mode?Â

I was just watching a video on Youtube and then all of a sudden my entire machine freezes, and it logged out me out completely to the main login screen? There was that tiny loading rotate logo in the screen also. What could have caused this?

I have tried repairing permissions on my hard drive, repairing disk on the external disk. Still the same.
Sometimes when I open the MBP after it's been in sleep mode, the screen won't turn back on. I hear the disc drive power up, but nothing on the monitor. I have to turn the computer off and restart it.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI bought a new mac mini in july. The second day I installed a genuine copy of vista 32 bit. To switch to vista I hold down the alt option key when the mac is starting up. In a few seconds a gray screen will show up with two options: Mac and Windows. Now about 5 separate times, the mac froze at this screen after I selected one of the two, usually or all the time I believe I selected windows. I waited but in the end I was forced to force shut down the mac.
Just recently I got rid of vista and installed Windows 7 ultimate 64bit and it just did it again at that screen.
Why is it doing this and is this really bad for my mac, I had no other choice.
I've a problem with my PowerBook G4 (12-inch DVI and Mac OS X 10.4.11). When I close the lid or when I manually try to make it sleep from the apple menu, it goes into sleep mode put only for 1 second and then shuts off (crashes). So instead of being able to wake up the computer, I have to boot it up from off.
