I am looking to get TV Tuner to hook up to my Mac mini (2009). I am looking at the Elgato EyeTV 250 Plus. However, I see so many TV Tuner choices from Elgato, I am not sure if the EyeTV 250 Plus is the only one that I should be looking at. I would appreciate some input from others. My provider is Cablevision.
I looked into Equinux TV Tuners, however, I feel they are dated. Could I be wrong?
I'm looking to hook my cable into a tv tuner that I will hook up to a Mac Mini. The Mini will then be hooked up to my flat screen.
I have Tivo now that allows me to remotely schedule recordings and it is a dual tuner allowing me to record to channels at the same time.
1. Can computer tv tuners record 2 channels at the same time?
2. Can I remotely "log in" to the Mini/tuner and schedule recordings?
3. Can I remotely log in and watch my recordings from another location?
4. Can I remotely access my tuner from another location and watch TV (like a Slingbox)?
Before moving to the Mac Mini, I used a Hauppauge WinTV-HVR-1950 and my FIOS STB to watch tv on my HP Pavilion PC. That tuner is not Mac compatible. I'm not interested in anything fancy. My computer monitor is really large, making it useful to double as a tv, saving space in my sewing room for other toys. My wireless network is 5G and I have a Cisco E3000 router.

It states on the info that the time capsule is for DSL broadband connections.
Living in a non-cabled area we are forced into using ADSL broadband. Is there any way to get the time capsule to work on ADSL?
I have tried a Sierra mobile broadband adapter from AT&T and an Ovation mobile broadband adapter from AT&T but both do not work.
The Sierra card gave a "terminal failure" and the Ovation card cause a kernel panic.
Does any carrier make a mobile broadband adapter that works with Snow Leopard without a tweak or hack?
Has anyone successfully installed a TV tuner into a 2010 MP Pro? I'm wondering if anyone can recommend a hardware+software solution for getting a U.S. TV signal on my 2010 MP.
View 9 Replies View Relatedi recently got a new macbook pro and have a question. i used to use an HP tv tuner with my HP laptop. that laptop has since died and i was wondering if i can use the tv tuner with my mac. i tried plugging it into my usb port to see if it would "just work", but no luck. anyone have any idea if there is a way to get it to work? do i need some special software that will take care of it, or is there pretty much no chance?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI got an iMac yesterday (the one in my sig). I have given up on Wintels completely. I had an ATI TV Wonder 650 combo usb on my wintel and liked it. I see that there is a version of the same tuner for Mac. I have read that the software that comes with it is horribly. Could someone point me in the direction of a decent tuner with decent software for the Mac?

So I recently downloaded the plug-in "ClickToFlash" which lets you choose when you want flash to launch, if at all, and seems pretty useful. The downloading/installation was no problem, but I heard that you can get youtube to be automatically "white listed", so I assume there is a preferences section for this plug-in? If so, where is it? If not, how would I go about doing the aforementioned.

I just got a new Imac-we are both back to Apple after a trip to the dark side. We want to just have the Imac in our bedroom instead of the TV-we just have standard cable. What is the best tuner available for the Imac?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm new to Mac. Two weeks ago I bought a new iMac (24" 2.66 Ghz Mac OS X 10.5.7) at the Apple store along with the Elgato Eye TV Hybrid tuner. I use the TV function every day, but today it shut off and will not work. I received an error message telling me that Eye TV will not work in a 1.1 USB port and that I should plug the TV tuner in a 2.0 USB port. It's my understanding that all the iMac ports are 2.0.
I tried calling Apple Care Support but they are closed for the 3 day holiday. : (
Any idea what the problem is or what I can do to get this to work? I am using the cables that came with they Eye TV tuner. I've restarted the iMac a couple times and the same thing happens.
I don't think its mac mini-specific but that happens to be the machine I'm using: Some files downloaded from the internet won't install, even after I click to allow permission on the warning screen.

In prep for moving to the "Cloud", I downloaded Lion last night without the knowledge that my 2005 version of Office would no longer be supported. Silly me, now I need to either switch to IWORKS or something else, immediately, so I can get back to work. If I download IWORKS or LIBRE will I be able to open my OFFICE files that are already on my computer?

I have my Mini hooked up through a usb/minidisplayport to HDMI adapter. On my keyboard when I push mute or volume up or down, the computer shows the mute/vol up/vol down icon on the screen when I push it and it makes the volume sound, but it does not actually mute the tv or make the volume go up or down. Only the actual TV controls will make it work.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI've reloaded OS9 on my G3 400 iMac, with the intention of bringing it back up to 10.3 after a 7 pass HD clean. Last night I downloaded the firmware upgrade on my current iMac and transferred it via USB flash pen, but it's unable to read it, presumably as it was written with an Intel OS and it appears with a PC icon. I don't know if downloading it via the original iMac would make any difference. However, as it can only has dialup internet access, that's out of the question with my broadband connection.
While I'm at it, I may a well ask, what is the fastest way to get to 10.3 Panther? I've seen another site, but can't locate it again, where it said 9.1 would have to be installed before then installing 10.2 Jaguar. Is this correct?
I have a slow broadband connection with iMac, My wireless router is connected at 4Mbs but my imac only gets download speeds on usually around 0.5Mbs. My daughters laptop running Windows 7 will connect at about 2 Mbs at the same location as the iMac. Is there any thing I can do to improve the speed ? My imac is a 27" c2d with Snow Leopard & using Safari & connected wireless.

View 7 Replies View RelatedAbout a month ago, a friend who had just purchased his first Mac emailed me and asked why his Dock DownLoad file disappeared. I had no idea why. He still hasn't been able to reestablish it.
Yesterday, I downloaded something and my Dock DownLoad file vanished. I have tried rebooting, using (useless) Help, Spotlight, Search, and several other things. NO JOY. NO DownLoad file.
1. Does anyone know where to find DownLoad or how to bring it back?
I have experienced several idiosyncrasies with Snow Leopard, but when I call Apple support, they are very nice, but haven't a clue as to why it's happening.
2. Another problem is that the Highlight gets anchored on something in Mail, Word, and some other Apps. When I click somewhere else, the whole area between the "anchor" and what I click on is lit up. Apple doesn't know what causes it. I have to go through multiple machinations to shake it loose. I don't know what it is that causes it or specifically how to "shake it loose". Neither does Apple.
3. When typing in Word or an editor, there are times when the type changes to UpperCase and won;t let go.
Another problem is that, at times, when I click on a file, it fills the screen. Apple is aware of this problem and is trying to find an answer. Nothing, to date.
Apple support can't tell me why the MacMail Inbox spinner disappeared or how to get it back.
There are times when I can't access the hidden Dock. After rebooting and trying other things, the Dock finally shows up but any additions that I have put on the Dock are no longer there.
When I put a DVD in the slot, for the first few seconds, it grinds but does smooth out.
I thought that SL was supposed to get rid of the "foibles". "What happened on the way to the Forum"?
Is anyone finding other SL idiosyncrasies? What are they?
If anyone can help with items 1., 2, and/or 3. I'd be grateful.
BTW, Apple says that items 2 and 3 MAY be caused by the wireless Magic Mouse and/or the wireless keyboard; however, when I use alternates, it still happens.
What O2 settings I need to enter into my macbook to get my mobile broadband working? The O2 manual doesn't make sense and on the O2 website it says the mac will walk me through it but nothing comes up. I guess I need to enter the settings in manually but I dont know what they are and where to put them.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI've been using 3 (UK) mobile broadband for about the last year now, paired with a Huawei E220 USB dongle. At times this has worked well, but it quite often has unexplainable issues which I'm growing tired of.
I'm wondering what experience others have had with 3G modems for the Mac. Are there any particular modems that worked especially well for you?
Likewise with UK providers - is there anyone in particular you've found to work well? For reference I'm looking at general use in and around London where the 3G coverage is pretty good.
I'm leaning toward the Vodafone USB Modem Stick 'Pro' on a 24 month package for 15 per month. Their network appears to be one of the fastest (7.2mb), Voda's coverage is generally good, and the modem has the bonus of doubling as a USB drive with the addition of a microSD card.
I'm currently on Satellite broadband (unfortunately no other option where I live) and the latency is, as expected, very high. While downloading files is no problem, loading pages like NZHerald and using Google is awful. Generally it takes forever (slower than dial up) and often Google fails to load.
Can someone suggest some third-party software so that I can make this bearable?
I've heard of using software to somehow optimise broadband so that it requests sites differently.
have just gone onto an 18 month contract with tmobile, and it is working fine - speed and connection wise.
Now I have the aluminium macbook (if that makes a difference...) and for some reason, whenever I go onto a webpage, 90% if not all the images dont load.
For example on this forum, the mac rumors: forums logo comes up, but when looking at smilies and stuff in the thread they do not.
They have blue boxes with ? marks in them.
This happens on every website I go onto. I have tried safari and firefox and the same thing happens in both.
I have windows 7 on here aswell that I boot into using boot camp, and it works perfectly fine on there - so its definitly a mac related issue.
The stick I am using is the 530 stick from tmobile.
i have got already a time capsule 500g and now i move to sweden i just wonder is it possible to use time capsule as wireless modem for broadband or not by other words is it necessary to buy a modem or can i just connect time cap to?
View 1 Replies View Relatedgot my mbp 15 i5 last week, ive been testing my battery, already recalibrated and all that.. i get 8+ hours on full charge on idle.. pretty average on normal use, around 5-6 hours. anyways so while i was testing my battery, i decided to unplug my usb broadband modem to see how much battery it's draining from my laptop. but to my surprise my battery life went down from approximately 3 hours left, to 2 and half ! i even waited 5 minutes so it can properly calculate it, but it didnt increase. so my question is wuzzup widat?! shouldnt it be the other way around? i was planning on canceling my wireless broadband contract when it expires and just wirelessly tether my newly jailbroken iphone via mywi for internet access, but its seems like wifi is a minus on the battery, but usb modems are actually a plus.
