My disk drive is stuck in the ejected position.
When I try to inserrt a disk you can feel the mechanism stuck in the ejected position. suspect I will have to have it serviced and I do have apple care.

I shoved a mini-cd into my MacBook pro's SuperDrive and, when nothing happened, used another dick to push it in further. It doesn't show on the desk top and I'm at a loss as to how to retrieve it. ( yes, I know this was a numb move.)

how can i get a disc that is stuck in my drive out?

This is pretty urgent. I've got a late 2008 15 inch MBP (the one with the express card reader) and I put in a DVD and it wouldn't read it. As it didn't read it, I can't eject it, and this is pretty bad.
View 3 Replies View Relatedin an effort to load windows vista into my machine I partitioned my harddrive and put the windows installer into my machine. When I didn't have enough space to load (partitioned 5gbs, needed 6.9 or something) I was unable to remove the disk from the drive for 30 minutes! I looked up these types of forums and couldn't find a solution.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm getting ready to sell my old Powerbook G4 so booted up from the installation CD, and ran Disk Utility to do a 8 Way Random Write pass on the Mac hard drive before I did a clean install (the disc is Mac OS X 10.3.7).
I selected the top option in the drive panel of Disk Utility (the one saying 92.2GB Hitatchi blablabla) rather than the indented disk beneath it.
All went fine doing the overwrite, however it seems to have become stuck on "Creating Partition Map" - it's been like that for half a day now. Any thoughts? Should I have chosen the indented drive underneath the main description?
A disk is stuck in the optical drive and the Mac isn't picking it up and I can't eject it.

I have heard or read somewhere on this forum that you can use Disk Utility to Duplicate your internal hard drive to another drive, how can you do this.
I have the stock 320GB 5400 RPM drive and I want to put in my 320GB 7200RPM with 16MB Cache, but I would rather not load and reload all the software, so how can I move the data from Stock to the new drive.
I already partitioned using GUID and erased the new 320GB drive in an external enclosure which is where the drive is sitting now connected via USB to my MINI.
Can my MacBook Pro serve as an external disk drive for my Mac mini?

I have the above combo. Trying to play blu-ray dvd but powerdvd won't play. Mac Mini is not built for blu-ray?
View 2 Replies View RelatedAs a new mac user I didn't know you can't use mini dvd so I did it. It got stuck and after trying everything I could find on the internet I took my mac to the store. When I got there and took the computer out of the bag it was in, I noticed the mini dvd margin was coming out of the dvd slot, so I just pulled it out.We all had a good laugh. So people, try that before taking it to the store: turn it of, place it with the dvd slot downwards, shake it a little and maybe you are as lucky as I was.

I have a 2nd gen Mac Mini that when booting chimes and goto the Apple logo with the circle below it. I tried once, let it go for about 10minutes before holding in the power button and trying again. It's been at this point for about 30minutes.
View 11 Replies View RelatedMy mother got a DL DVD-RW stuck in the drive of her MacBook. When I try to eject it, it makes a bunch of noises like it is going to eject but then doesn't, and then I hear it spin and try and load, then it repeats by trying to eject it again, etc. If I reboot the computer, it shows the disk on the desktop and I can open it fine. Problems don't start till I try and eject it.
I have tried holding down the trackpad button on boot up, I tried "drutil eject" in the terminal, I tried using disk utility but while the drive shows up, it doesn't say if anything is in the drive. She has the Black MacBook 4, 1 with a 2.4 GHz Core 2 Duo. 10.6.
Sometimes when I eject a CD or DVD from my Mac mini, the disk comes out flying, like the way cartoon toasters spit out bread. Not always, just sometimes.
Anything to worry about?
I am getting an i7 iMac in the near future (ordered yesterday, won't arrive til Jan. 3rd ) And I am getting it stock with just the 4gigs of ram, and don't plan on upgrading anytime soon, but I probably will at some point when prices come down. Anyway, I use photoshop some (not a power user or anything but I use it for some stuff) and I was wondering if you could use a mini sd card as a scratch disk, and if you can, is it a good idea? Thoughts/opinions/comments.
On to my HD question: should I pay apple to upgrade my HD to the 2TB drive? I think I will definitely fill up the 1TB so I'd like the extra space, but would prefer to buy the drive from ifixit or owc or something to save some cash, but the thought of having to remove the huge glass screen with suction cups and disconnecion the LCD seems a little daunting so I was wondering if I should just save myself the hassle and get the upgrade done by mac (it'd be $225 instead of $250 because I get the student discount) Of course I'd lose out on the 1TB HD that I could later stick in to an external HD enclosure, so its a pretty big hit in terms of cash.
From watching the teardown on ifixit changing he HD looks like it could be a little tricky, but I'd like some input from you guys. I am pretty tech savy (former PC user so I've replaced a lot of components like ram, video cards, HDs, ec cetera) but getting past the wall of glass is daunting, but I may just be hyping it up, so I wanted some input.
Third and finally, I got the wired keyboard because I wanted a # pad but I just found out my old Logitech G13 has mac drivers so I was thinking of switching to the wireless one just so I could have a wireless mouse + keyboard for when I want to watch a movie or something from further away, though ideally I think I'd prefer a keyboard with a built in track pad or track ball, but I don't really want to fork out the cash for it now. So is there any advantage of the wired numeric apple keyboard compared to the Logitech one? I can still control media, I have a remote, and it can do expose and screens and all that good stuff. But as always I wanted to make sure I wasn't over looking anything.
I set up a 32g partition for windows xp pro. Loaded the disk and formated the partition to FAT. Hold option at startup and load windows. Upon loading windows i get the following message "There is no disk in the drive. Please insert a disk into drive." I have tried leaving the xp disk in, I have tried taking it out before loading windows and putting it in afterwords, nothing works. I can not eject disk while in windows.

Is it possible to buy the disk drive from somewhere else and install it my self??? Im just curious if its cheaper to do it myself or have apple do it

I went to install Windows XP via bootcamp as I no longer have a windows XP machine, but still need windows XP for a few things work related. The install failed, the CD I used was kinda scratched and it missed a few of the files during installation so I skipped them (usually not an issue as they were driver files and such). Well the installed failed and cannot complete. Now I'm stuck in a vicious loop where it wants to try and complete the install every time it boots. I'm using a non-apple keyboard, when I try to hold down what would be the equivalent of command+option+O+F it does nothing and either starts the windows installation all over or tries to continue and finish the current install. No matter what, no luck getting the windows disk to eject.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI think I have a non-stable Windows XP on bootcamp that constantly gets suck during boot-up. I can boot in safe mode, but won't let me change the start-up disc to Mac. I'm trying to get back to Leopard Snow, but none of the bootcamp shortcuts (x, option key, etc) work. I am on a wireless keyboard. Is that the problem for the shortcut keys?

I live in Northern VA and lost power yesterday due to the powerful storms that moved through the area. At the time of the power outage I was performing a System Update on my Mac Mini. I stepped out of the room for a few minutes and lost power, so I'm not sure if the update was interrupted or if it completed (not sure if this makes any difference). After getting power back earlier today I booted up the mini and it would not advance to the Desktop. It just kept getting stuck at the light grey Apple screen with the spinning circle loader. I tried to boot in Safe mode using command+shift+v but it kept getting stuck at this point [url]I've read suggestions about reinstalling using the OSX CD but that is not an option as my Mac Mini comes without an Optical Drive or the OSX CD for that matter. I'm simply at a loss.

It then locks up in the password screen. I have a logitech key board. I try holding the shift key at start up for safe mode nothing happens.

i am trying to format a brand new 120 GB hard drive via an external USB 2.0 enclosure. About 25 minutes ago, I selected the "erase" option and slected the Mac OS Extended (Journal) Volume format. For the last 25 minutes, disk utility has been saying that it's creating a partition map. It's doing nothing.
I have reason to believe my enclosure may be faulty. (I had a similar problem on an old hard disk and thought that the problem was with the disk; now I know.) I need to know: How do I disconnect/eject the hard disk without damaging it? The eject option in Disk Utility is grayed out. If I attempt to quit Disk Utility I get a warning telling me I could leave my disk inoperable.
