When I try to inserrt a disk you can feel the mechanism stuck in the ejected position. suspect I will have to have it serviced and I do have apple care.

Sep 20, 2008As a new mac user I didn't know you can't use mini dvd so I did it. It got stuck and after trying everything I could find on the internet I took my mac to the store. When I got there and took the computer out of the bag it was in, I noticed the mini dvd margin was coming out of the dvd slot, so I just pulled it out.We all had a good laugh. So people, try that before taking it to the store: turn it of, place it with the dvd slot downwards, shake it a little and maybe you are as lucky as I was.

Jan 8, 2010I went to install Windows XP via bootcamp as I no longer have a windows XP machine, but still need windows XP for a few things work related. The install failed, the CD I used was kinda scratched and it missed a few of the files during installation so I skipped them (usually not an issue as they were driver files and such). Well the installed failed and cannot complete. Now I'm stuck in a vicious loop where it wants to try and complete the install every time it boots. I'm using a non-apple keyboard, when I try to hold down what would be the equivalent of command+option+O+F it does nothing and either starts the windows installation all over or tries to continue and finish the current install. No matter what, no luck getting the windows disk to eject.

Feb 26, 2012I think I have a non-stable Windows XP on bootcamp that constantly gets suck during boot-up. I can boot in safe mode, but won't let me change the start-up disc to Mac. I'm trying to get back to Leopard Snow, but none of the bootcamp shortcuts (x, option key, etc) work. I am on a wireless keyboard. Is that the problem for the shortcut keys?

Apr 5, 2012I have just bought a mac mini server and am trying to get through the setup assistant.I select English as the main language and then get taken to the choose your country or region screen.I can scroll, select a country using the mouse or keyboard but when I push enter or double click I just get an error tone and nothing happens.Can not go forward can not go back.

Jun 9, 2012I shoved a mini-cd into my MacBook pro's SuperDrive and, when nothing happened, used another dick to push it in further. It doesn't show on the desk top and I'm at a loss as to how to retrieve it. ( yes, I know this was a numb move.)

Mac Mini :: 2011 Gets Stuck At Apple Screen?
Jul 1, 2012I live in Northern VA and lost power yesterday due to the powerful storms that moved through the area. At the time of the power outage I was performing a System Update on my Mac Mini. I stepped out of the room for a few minutes and lost power, so I'm not sure if the update was interrupted or if it completed (not sure if this makes any difference). After getting power back earlier today I booted up the mini and it would not advance to the Desktop. It just kept getting stuck at the light grey Apple screen with the spinning circle loader. I tried to boot in Safe mode using command+shift+v but it kept getting stuck at this point [url]I've read suggestions about reinstalling using the OSX CD but that is not an option as my Mac Mini comes without an Optical Drive or the OSX CD for that matter. I'm simply at a loss.

Dec 1, 2014I have a 2010 mac using OSX Yosemite update. It is sticking in the white apple start up screen for a long time. It boots to the password screen, I input password. It then locks up in the password screen. I have a logitech key board. I try holding the shift key at start up for safe mode nothing happens.

May 8, 2010I booted up my Mac Mini last monday to find for some reason it is stuck in that loading screen which displays a grey background, the apple logo and a round loading swirly sign. I have tried running disc utility and trying to repair it but it dosent detect any errors, I also tried clearing the PRAM according to Resetting your Mac's PRAM and NVRAM and still no joy. I've done a total reinstall of OSX and went through an hour and a half of erasing and reinstalling osx from its supplied discs, however still it wont get past the loading screen.
I've used a usb hard drive aswell and tried installing osx onto that to see if it was a hard drive error but it still gets stuck at the same loading screen. I can access safe mode without a problem. I have done numerous hours of searching the web without any luck to a cure to my specific problem. Specs are Mac Mini 1.66GHZ intel duo core 2, 1gb ram, 10.6 OSX (upgraded from 10.5) 100gb hard drive I have also started up in Verbose mode and got alot of info that I don't really understand, I've attached screen shots of where the loading screen gets stuck in verbose upon 4 attempts at booting up the mini.

Jul 1, 2010I do have a copy of the the Mac Mini SL Client software but I don't have another Mac to create the USB restore disc in order to load the client on the Mini Server via usb drive. I don't intend to use the Server Software and don't want to 'activate' the license so I can resell it instead. Can I just use the Server to create the bootable restore disc without 'activating' the Server License and locking it to my serial number? Or is there another way to create the restore disc if you don't have access to another Mac to run disc utility?

Feb 6, 2012Have a new Mac Mini, using an external drive but I can't get it to show up in finder. It's a Lacie 1TB Porsche design HDD, using a USB connection directly into the mini. I tried it at first by connecting to an open usb on my cinema display..no good. Also no good when connected directly into the mini.

Jan 9, 2011 One of the drives in our 2009 mac mini server 2009 has died. I have taken apart many minis so have no problem taking it apart to replace, but does anyone know which drive is the primary, "Server HD" drive? Would it be the top drive (first drive you come across during disassembly) or the bottom drive closer to the logic board with the two pads stuck on? Just wondering if anyone knows for sure so I can avoid removing the drive that's still working fine.
Also, to keep the server running in the mean time, I am booting to the second drive which is working fine. Just curious, once the dead primary drive is replaced , can I simply use carbon copy clone to copy back from the 2nd drive, or will I need to install snow leopard server back onto the new drive?
Mac Mini :: Installed A Kingston SSD Drive In My 2010 Mac Mini?
Aug 24, 2010I installed a Kingston SSD drive in my 2010 mac mini. If I put the OSX install DVD (grey disc 1), the SSD is not visible in either the installer or disk utility.
The SSD is a Kingston 64 GB SATA 2.5-inch SSDNow V Series Solid State Drive. Cheap drive.
The funny thing is that before i started all this I restored a SuperDuper image of 10.6.4 from my old mini to the SSD using a usb to SATA adapter. Installed and it worked! The SSD booted OS X but the ethernet jack was not working.
Does anyone know of a workaround for installing OSX onto a drive that is not being recognized in disk utility?
I'd like to find a way to reinstall OSX using the grey DVD without having to remove the SSD drive.

Oct 21, 2010DVD was stuck in my DVD drive and I could not get it out. At the time I was hyped up on vicodin and cough syrup (yes... I was sick) and thought that the correct solution would be to attempt to put ANOTHER DVD in. It slid in with a little resistance. Now I have two DVDs stuck in my computer and NO IDEA how to get them out. Suggestions? I've tried the boot up - force eject to no avail.

Jun 10, 2009Now that I have a New Mac Mini, What is the best internal hard disk to upgrade it with. I'm thinking dependability first and one that's quiet. Now that the Seagate 500gb 7200rpm drive is at v.4 it seems the way to go, just want to make sure. The Hitachi TravelStar 7K320 320gb is a cheaper option if its just as good or better for dependability and silent/cool operation. And on reading some reviews of the Western Digital Scorpio Blue 500gb 5400 it seems a very good drive too and maybe just as fast as the higher priced and faster spinning Seagate.

It was playing up a few times, where CD's wouldn't come out, but usually, with a little perseverance, it would come out. Now, however, it's not happening!
I've tried most of the various ways people have posted - resetting PRAM, holding it at an angle, etc etc - but still had no luck.

Nov 28, 2007About 2 years ago, I added a hard drive in the second hard drive compartment. I would like to replace it with a recently purchased 1 TB SATA hard drive that is desperately needed, but the hard drive in the second compartment will NOT budge whatsoever. I've tried wiggling the hard drive side to side for hours, bloody scratched up hands, screwdriver method Apple suggests, chop sticks that another reader suggested, even a string with a knot to no avail. I don't have rubber clamps as one reader suggested. Does anyone else have any other suggestions besides going to a store and paying them to remove it?

OS X :: Hard Drive Fan Speed Stuck At Max
Dec 1, 2009Alright, here's the situation. Last week I shut down my computer to go away for thanksgiving, and when I came back and turned on my 20" white intel imac my hard drive fan sounds like it is going max rpm. I have istat pro installed and the rpm for the HDD fan is showing it's at zero. Does anybody have a clue as to why this is happening? My computer was working fine when I last used it but now my fan is going crazy. It's really loud and i'm concerned my the life of my fan. Any suggestions on what to do would be great. I installed Snow Leopard after the problem occured, but it's still happening.

Dec 27, 2009As a new IMac user (24 hours) I decided to copy my entire CD collection on to my computer. I now have a CD that is stuck in my IMac. It doesn't read/display at all, nor will it eject when I select this option from ITunes. Is there a way to manually eject the disc or another way that I may not be familiar with given my lack of apple experience? I have over 500 CDs to copy and I have only done 10 or so when this occurred.
