View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a small problem with a MacBook. With OSX 10.5.6. I ran BootCamp on it to create a second partition for Windows XP SP3. When it's time to put in the Windows XP disc on the reboot, the MacBook gets stuck with a black screen and a flashing indicator in the top left corner. Supposely it must show a message that the CD is about to boot for the windows installation. But that flashing indicator just stayes there. Nothing happens.
I tried recreating the partition using bootcamp about 3 times, I made sure that the partition was working as I could see it on the OSX desktop. Tried about 4 different Windows CD's, vista included, but nothing changes.
I am now about to reinstall the Mac OS to see if that will help. I am stuck with this as I never had a problem like this and tried everything I could think of except for the reinstalling of OS X.
I used boot camp assistant to create a partition and install windows xp, but my cd key isn't working so I need to eject the disc. However, since my macbook keeps booting to the windows install program i have no option to eject the disc, does anyone know a way to hard-eject the disc?

I was using Safari browser and lost my entire long letter. I tried viewing history & reloading the page.... no luck.
There must be a way of retrieving all the history on one's computer. Maybe not in Safari, but other software loaded in my comp. Syst tools or sys preferences maybe. I just need to know where to look because i'm pretty clueless.
I am paranoid about losing data so I have lots of backups on my computer end but today my CF card from my digital camera seems to be failing or have failed ( before I even got a chance to import it into my computer!) I have about 800 shoots taken in Raw format from a vacation that i must retrieve! when I stick the card into the camera the camera can read the card and I can view all the pictures etc just like normal but when I insert it into my computer it shows up as only a 7.5gb drive ( its a 16gb CF card ) and I can access the root directory but if I try to go to any sub dir finder just freezes up and then I have to force restart the computer, I tried on other computers ( win and mac as well as a ps3 ) it wont let me view the files on anything but the camera!
View 3 Replies View RelatedMy question is pretty straight forward. I have about 50 movies that I've ripped from my DVD collection that are on an external HD. I don't have copies on my main HD because of storage issues. But I recently upgraded my internal to a 1TB disk and would like to move the movies back onto my main HD. The problem is when I try and drag the file from my External onto my Internal I get about half way through and the transfer just stops. I've tried at least 10 different movies and none of them will work.

I'm relatively new to the world of Apple. I have an iMac running Mac OS X, version 10.6.8. I stored photos from my PC onto a NexStar CX external HD. A friend told me I should be able to access them from my iMac but when I plugged it in I get this message:

I don't remember my key, and I bought a new hard drive and did some other stuff to upgrade my PC, ultimately causing me to lose the setup and program installation files. How can I retrieve my key? I followed the article that said to go to your account and look at your order history, and I can see that my product was purchased but I do not see a key anywhere.

Ever since I upgraded to Leopard over a year ago, my Mail.app has been pretty buggy. my mail.app is currently set up to connect to my university IMAP server with SSL and password authentication. Before I upgraded from Tiger to Leopard, mail would always retrieve any new mail on the IMAP server every minute and any time I press get mail. Ever since I upgraded however, the get mail function hasn't worked exactly as it should.
Sometimes get mail would work, sometimes it won't, and sometimes it takes a long time for my computer to automatically retrieve new e-mails. The weird thing is, connection doctor shows no connection abnormality, and if get mail doesn't work, I can get it to work again if I quit and reopen mail, which is always a pain. Mail on my iPhone works perfectly (syncs to my MBP), and I have already tried deleting mail.app, reinstalling from my Leopard DVD and basically resetting all settings.
Today at work I accidently deleted some images from the server/network and they are not in my trash and i can't find them anywhere, does anybody know how to undelete files that were deleted straight from the server?

Set up time machine to back up my computer and I only have backups from July 7th (when the time machine start). I have information (media, movies, music, etc) dating all the way back to October 2008. Unexpectedly (of course), the iMac died beyond repair. I am now, unenthusiastically, using a Dell laptop running Windows 7 until such time as I can replace the iMac. My questions is this: is there a method I can use to access the backup HD to extract files I need from it? I have connected the HD to the laptop and it is “seen” by Windows, but it doesn’t allow me to open it to view files. I am not interested in interacting with the external drive beyond retrieving digital images and document files I desperately need.

I'm planning to use Remote Disc to reinstall my Leopard, since the upgrade to 10.5.3 really screwed things here, and I can't figure out why. Point is: instead of running all Leopard installation thru Remote Disc, I would prefer to share Leopard disc 1 over Remote Disc and restore it to a partition on my external HD, making a clone of it, which would install *much* faster. Has anyone tried anything like this? There's any Windows program which allows me to rip a Mac DVD to a Mac partition?

My question is this - on a simplistic level, could transferring the failed HD platters to a new enclosure work as a means to retrieve the info. So if I buy I cheap working drive of same size/manufacturer - say 20 gig. Take it apart and remove it's platters. Then replace them with her failed disk's platters (160 gig). Would I stand any chance of retrieving the data? I really can't afford the $600 ish I'm being quoted to get it done professionally.

I did the transfer, and checked to see if I could open my new Iphoto Library from my external by pressing option before clicking on Iphoto and choosing the new library. Everything worked fine, so I deleted my Iphoto library on my mac HD. After deleting all the files I tried to open my Library on my external and Iphoto opens without and pictures. The Iphoto Library on my external has 14.97 GB being used so I know the files are there, I just cannot open them.

I synced my Nokia 6300 with Address Book and all about 450 contacts were transferred successfully. I used the iSync. In the meantime, I added some 50 more contacts to my cell phone Contacts and wanted to sync them with address book as well. So, I deleted all the existing 450 contacts from the Address Book on my Mac, hoping the next time I sync cellphone with computer, only the new 50 contacts will be transferred to Address Book. Here is what I ended up with: Address Book with only 50 new contacts and Cell Phone with only 50 same contacts!
All of the previous 450 contacts just disappeared from my cell phone! Just like that! I was wondering if there is any chance I can retrieve my contacts, it does not matter where to...either cell phone or Address Book on my Mac. Btw, I am using Leopard 10.5.8 and I have searched all over the web, everybody is mentioning some AddressBook.data.previous file but I cannot find it anywhere! I even created Automator ShowAllFiles Finder Plug in, the Addressbook.data.pevious just is not there.
When I first used the Mail application, it didn't show any kind of visual cue of accessing the server when trying to get my email. Then I started getting a spiraling circular ring, but now all of a sudden it's gone again. Is there a bug in Mail with Mac OS X 10.6.4?

I discovered that mail downloaded ALL my emails from the last 5 years and deleted it from my hotmail webaccount. So, I tried to find the settings to prevent Mail from downloading and deleting email but couldn't. So I proceeded to delete the account from Mail. To my horror, I found that I've lost all my emails as well!!!
Is there a way to retrieve my emails? Now I can't even find the pop3 setting for free hotmail.
I have an iMac and a MacBook. The iMac hardrive won't boot so I am trying to get files off of it by connecting it to the MacBook via FireWire. After holding down T and booting up the iMac I don't see the drive on the MacBook. I only see the drive in disk utilities.
