Laptops :: All Sites Links Lost In Bookmarks Tab?

Jan 2, 2011

When adding websites using Bookmarks how does one keep them permanently? Today I switched on my Mac and all my websites have been removed. Leaving only a white empty file with no link to the site. Some sites still remain with icons (don't know why) but the rest have been removed. I'm talking hundreds of sites saved over several months, this would take days to go online and manually gain all sites back by hand. Went in to Safari > preferences > RSS, and settings were already at remove articles "Never" So why have all my sites disappeared? Is the nothing I can do to retrieve all the websites back? How about Time Machine?

Applications :: Use Top Sites Like Bookmarks Page

Feb 28, 2009

I know how to manually add my favorite pages to Top Sites already, and I know about the 'pin' icon in Edit mode. The thing is I want to use Top Sites like a bookmarks page because the UI is quicker to use (imo), but every time I add several sites to it and then restart Safari or browse for a little bit they just disappear or get replaced by some new pages. I made sure they were 'pinned' so they wouldn't go anywhere, but some of them still go away after I browse for a little while. Anybody know why?

I want to be able to select multiple links in my bookmarks sidebar so I can organize certain bookmarks into a folder.

In windows I could just use the shift or ctrl keys to select multiple items. How does this feature work on a Mac?

UPDATE: How do you select multiple items in general?

I was able to organize my bookmarks through the "organize bookmarks" feature.

OS X V10.6 Snow Leopard :: Mail Lost Links To Its Mailboxes

Mar 16, 2012

Mail has been working well for a year on a mac air. mail had been running on my computer yesterday and, I assume it crashed, because when i got home and opened the computer mail was no longer open. and when I opened it it started running me through setup as if i had never used the program.there was no way to open mail without going through the setup -- that seems to be a problem to me right there.I kept canceling the setup but then it wouldn't launch mail. so finally i went through setup and resetup one of my email accounts. the name of the inbox is slightly different althought , as it turned out, the name of the outbox is identical.

the program recognized that there was already any outbox with this name but instead of linking with that in some way it instead named the new outbox "delivered" that's cool to avoid a conflict but there doesn't appear to be any way to tell the program just to reconnect with the previous boxes. I can import them but then then they come  in an import folder. I'd like to get all my mail for a certain account into the same folder, not have what is essentially an archive folder for each account and an active one.

how to reconnect to these old mailboxes as active accounts, or how when importing to merge the appropriate mailbox with the appropriate account.or to restore mailbox settings/preferences or users or whatever was lost. I do have a backup that includes my library files to sugarsync if there is some kind of restore I could try.

OS X :: Bookmarks Bar Lost Count - Showing Zero

Mar 30, 2009

Today I went into my bookmarks page and decided to see if anything was in RSS, The only thing was google news. So I double clicked on that, it took several long seconds to pull up google news. When I back out to my bookmarks page I noticed that the number of bookmarks next to bookmarks bar said zero or nothing! It should have said 6101! Does anyone know why this would happen?

Applications :: Orphaned Files And Repointing Links - Lost Photos And Exclamation Mark?

Jun 4, 2009

I browsed the threads on this and many sites before I thought I'd report back on my day with iPhoto - just so that those of you out there can benefit.Basically, and for those noobs that don't know the gen, iPhoto and iTunes both have an interface that work on showing you what you have by way of thumbnail or album sleeve image - then, upon selecting, linking your requirement to see or listen to the actual file itself buried somewhere else. This is a great system for a number of great reasons - that is until your links break. You see a thumbnail of a picture of uncle Bob you want to see so you double click it. You are rewarded not with a high rez image of Bob but instead a rather unimaginative and rude exclamation mark (exclamation point for you Americans). The link is broken - you have an orphaned file. It might not be lost or deleted - in fact it is probably still somewhere on your machine or external drives etc.

OS X :: Lost Bookmarks And Settings When Updating Browser

Dec 18, 2008

So I went out to update my web browser from Opera 9 to Opera 10 alpha. So I downloaded .dmg file and it said to copy it to applications folder so I did, then it asked me if I want to replace old version, I said yes and then i started my Opera and found all my bookmarks skins and settings gone. So I had to add my bookmarks again etc. Why? What could i do to save it but still get Opera 10?? This is really weird. I think that all bookmark settings and such were stored in Opera.app and now when I deleted it it's all gone.

Applications :: Safari 5 - Lost Glims Facility Of Forcing Completion Of Reluctant Web Sites

Jun 9, 2010

Since installing Safari 5, everything seems to be slow. I have also 'lost' the "Glims" facility of forcing the completion of reluctant web-sites. Is it simply an impression, or is the new Safari slower? It seems to get so far with the address-bar and then think about it.

Laptops :: Lost Maximum Resolution Display (22 Inch Monitor)

Dec 7, 2009

Just bought a new MacBook (OSX 10.6.1 w/4GB RAM) and ViewSonic 22" monitor. When I hooked it up (via DVI) and loaded the VewSonic drivers, I got the max resolution of 1920 x 1080. Earlier today, I came back and woke up my MacBook - and got only a snowy screen on the monitor and couldn't get anything on the laptop. Restarted and now, even though the display shows 1920 x 1080, it is not providing that resolution. The max for the laptop shows 1280 x 800 and that is about what is showing on the monitor as well. I keep resetting the resolution on the monitor at 1920 x 1080 - but the screen size doesn't change.

But I have a complaint about it.On a MacBook, the screen isn't wide enough for all of my bookmarks to show up in the bookmarks bar. The "bookmarks" menu in the bookmarks bar is hiding the last bookmark I have. How do I get rid of that? The top menu already has a bookmarks pull down menu.

Windows On Mac :: Get Back Lost Data/lost All Hard Drive Partitions After Windows Update?

Jun 26, 2010

I just booted into Windows and saw that there were some Windows Updates available and it asked me to reboot the computer however it failed to boot into Windows. So I restarted and tried to boot into OS X instead, but that didn't work either.

So I put in the OS X install DVD and checked out Disk Utility. Turned out that all my partitions where screwed up. There were 3 partitions listed as Windows_ldm, with incorrect sizes (I had 4 partitions before).

Long story short: I'm now reinstalling OS X and I lost everything I had on the drive, I think. I'll try some restore software once I've gotten OS X installed.

A little pissed right now... How the heck can Windows F up the entire drive?

Software :: Broken Links In PDF?

May 10, 2009

I've got a PDF document (actually, several PDF documents, but for a single purpose) that contains information on various points in music with links to examples that should play when clicked. The problem is, when I click on the links, nothing happens. They are in a folder just beneath the folder that contains the PDFs and I can easily Spotlight for them and run them, but would prefer clicking on the link and getting them to run by themselves. Is there anything I can do to make the links load themselves?BTW - I'm opening the PDF in Preview. Links to pages seem to work fine, it's just the links to the music examples that don't seem to work. Should I be using Acrobat Reader instead?

There is something in my profile which is causing this. Any ideas?

OS X :: Opening URL Links From Mail 4.3 & Finder?

Nov 4, 2010

For the past few days, when I try to click on a URL link from an email, Firefox will open up but not to the link. I have to right click and copy link and then paste it into the location bar. Very frustrating.

I have also noticed that when I double click on a .html file from Finder, I get a pop up window asking me if I want to open it up and I click "yes" (this is normal), however, once I do that, nothing happens, but if I double click it again, it will open up in Firefox. And each time I do that for each file, the file is not opening up in a new tab, but in a new session of Firefox (my preference for this is set to new tab instead of new window).

I have checked both Firefox and Mail preferences but can't find anything about links to assist/guide me. Any and all advice is welcomed because I am stumped.
