the problem is that when I push the power button, nothing at all happens. I've tried it with the battery only, the power cord only, and both the battery and the power cord. Also, the power cord lights up green, even though the battery is almost completely dead.
I have tried a different power cord, with the same results. Unfortunately, I am still trying to get a hold of another battery, so I haven't tried that yet. I have already tried a PMU reset (holding the power button for 5 seconds with power and battery removed), and that doesn't do anything either. Any ideas on what is wrong, or what I should do to find out? The warranty's expired, and I'm rather comfortable working with electronics, so feel free to suggest doing stuff inside the machine.
Recently my powerbook g4 aluminum 15" won't wake from sleep mode, and i can't turn it off with the button. When the computer does turn off the only way i can get it back on is to open it up and reset the logic board by disconnecting the back up battery for a little bit. I've tried reseting the PMU,
View 6 Replies View RelatedI have a Powerbook G4 that I bought used a year ago. It has worked perfectly with no problems at all. Yesterday it started going to sleep randomly during use. It would wake up when the space bar is pressed and be fine for a while. This was happening every 10 - 15 minutes. Since yesterday it has gotten worse and worse, happening more and more often, and now it won't even stay awake long enough to click on something. Any ideas of what could be wrong??? I'm sorry I don't know what operating system or anything, I'm not all that Mac savvy.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a very old PowerBook that did have OSX running on it fine. Recently it has stopped working completely and when you startup it takes you to a blue screen with a question mark and a finder icon flashing on top of a folder. If you give it long enough it will just shut off. I have tried booting from a CD but I can't seem to get that to work. I boot up holding down the option key and it brings me to a window with a picture of my hard drive and a picture of the CD drive but when I click the cd drive and then click the forward button it merely acts like it's refreshing the list and doesn't actually boot from the CD at all. I've also tried holding down C during boot up but it ignores that and just goes to the same old flashing question mark and finder icon screen. The CD I am trying to boot from is the same OSX cd that I originally installed OSX on this computer from so I know it works.

I checked Apple's website and found an article called Power Management Unit. It says to hit the reset button, wait 5 seconds and then hit the power button, but it didn't work for any of them. Does anyone have any ideas?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI just acquired a 1 GHz 15" Powerbook Ti. It is in good cosmetic condition except for a few dark marks from the keyboard on the screen. I can feel them with a fingernail, so I know they are residue from the keys. Is there any way these can be removed without damaging the screen? I have had very good results using toothpaste and a damp cloth on other surfaces, but I am leery of using even a very mild abrasive on the screen. I have even used newsprint on some sensitive surfaces with good results but if you make an error on the screen, it is either permanent or expensive. I suppose I could try in a corner but I know there are anti-glare coatings on the screens and I could make things worse. This is most noticeable when there is a light-colored area displayed right under the marks.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI recently inherited a Pismo, 400 mhz and a 6gb hard drive. Other than the tiny hard drive, the computer is in great shape and has a lot of service left in it. I was able to load Tiger on it, and it's working fine. I replaced the hard drive with a 100gb Seagate, but when I tried to format the disk,the new hard drive didn't show up during installation attempts. However, the volume was visible in the system profiler and the disk utility...I reinstalled the original hard drive, and that booted successfully so I guess that means I didn't damage the hard drive cable, which I had feared. Does anyone have an idea about this? So odd that that I could locate the drive in the disk utility but not at the installation screen.
View 3 Replies View RelatedMy Titanium powerbook was running when suddenly the screen went crazy, flashing colors and bars, then went blank black. Now can't boot at all, even from external drive. If I hold down the start key I eventually get a faint humming sound and the little "alive" light at the bottom of the display bezel flashes for a short time. If I repeat this it takes at least 15 seconds to happen. I have turned it off for a while and even removed the battery but nothing changes. Can't afford a new one, need help to fix it.

What I would like to know is, should I do a clean install to Leopard(can't go snow leopard.no intel. right?)and later add my pictures & music back from backup? And what is the best way to do that. I have a macbook pro of 8months old.The machine is fitted with 4gb ram, 2 x 2, but is able to be fitted with 8 gb.I bought 2 x 4gb of the same type of ram: 1067 MHz DDR3When it was fitted, the computer performed great, Autocad was flying.
Alas, after a few hours the computer went berserk and started to behave odd, refused to open a prog, refused to stop and finally refused to re-start.
When I removed the new ram modules and re-fitted the old ones, I found out that my hdd was not mountable. I did resolve the issue but lost some data in the process.
o I took the plunge and giddily purchased Mac OS 10.6 aka Snow Leopard the day it was made available. Usually, I have very little worries being an early adopter to new OS releases considering the successful upgrade experiences I've had through the years of being a Mac user.
After upgrading to Snow Leopard from 10.5.8, my MacBook Pro 17" (2.6 GHz, 4GB RAM, 200GB @7200 RPM HDD, non-unibody) would consistently drop it's internet connection whether it was via Ethernet (wired) or through AirPort (wired and wireless are using DHCP). I've applied several supposed fixes suggested everywhere on the Googled web with limited success:* Reset Network settings, deleted "Automatic" settings and created a new setting (called untitled)
* Zap the PRAM (hold Command+Option+P+R on restart)
* Flush the DNS cache(using: dscacheutil -flushcache on the Terminal)
These 'fixes' worked only for a few minutes, and the internet connection would eventually drop again. NOTE: Although other computers and drives were visible on my network, and Instant Messaging via Adium is still functional, which is weird, I could not connect to the internet through a browser, or connect Mail.app or even to the iTunes store.
Tired and frustrated at this point, I decided to finally call Apple Support (Case #134733179) and was suggested to try the following steps:* Shutdown the MacBook Pro, remove battery, disconnect the power, and then hold the Power Key for 15 seconds. After which I was told to replace the battery, reconnect power and zap PRAM and wait for 2 chimes before letting the keys go.
I was able to get connection for a while but lost it again after a few minutes of usability.And so I called again and was told this time to try:* Trash the SystemConfiguration folder (~/Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration) and all of it's contents... then reboot.
The above suggestion seemed logical as it would obliterate any existing preferences that may be corrupted and affecting the connection setup. The system would then recreate a fresh preference file free of any lingering old settings. This again worked for a while, but sadly, my wired and wireless connection both drops within a few minutes of usage. It is also worth noting that simply restarting the MacBook Pro regains connectivity as well but drops after a few minutes on both Ethernet and Airport settings.
So today has been an unproductive day considering I spent all my efforts troubleshooting Snow Leopard (10.6) on the MacBook Pro, and couple that with the inability to use several key functionality such as SynergyKM to sync all three machines I have with one keyboard/mouse (not to mention the unpredictable behavior Adobe CS3 has been displaying (especially InDesign losing menus and drawing blank palettes!) and the loss of Letterbox's (plugin) features on Mail.app) and I am now forced to downgrade back to 10.5.8 via Time Machine Restore until Apple resolves or acknowledges this problem (or some knowledgable individual throws this dog a bone and help me out of this misery).In the meantime, I need to get work done and something as fundamental as a stable internet connection should have been high on Apple's "must work" priority list.
Is the MacBook Pro keyboard the same as the 12-inch PowerBook one? It feels a bit different, but the measuremeants are the same and I urgently need to swap my MBP one out.

I have tons of pics and music and i have been faced with the predicament of either upgrading the RAM or just shelling out the extra money for a new computer. I run a lot of of my music programs on there as well (ie. Reason, ProTools) So what would you do?
