OS X V10.7 Lion :: Imac Intel 27 In Does Not Wake From Sleep?
Apr 2, 2012Ever since I bought and downloaded OS Lion, whenever I put my mac to sleep or it goes to sleep on its own it occasionally won't wake up from sleep. It has to be manually rebooted. Is anyone familiar with this problem. Apple must know about it by now. I'm not lugging my 27" iMac into the apple store to have them look at it unless it won't reboot. Hoping it doesn't come to that...anyone familiar with this or have ideas on how to fix it? I don't know if it's a 3rd party software issue or just the OS.

Feb 12, 2010I bought my Macbook in 2008, it is a 13 inch, aluminum. I had the RAM upgraded to 4gigs. After I updated it from 10.5.5 to 10.5.6 it quit waking up. I had to take this macbook back because the command key broke, the store replaced the computer. When I got home from the store I set-up my new Macbook and upgraded it from 10.5.5 to 10.5.6, same issue with the sleep. When I close the lid, and open it the screen remains black. I can hear the hard drive running, I then have to reboot by pressing the power button.Now here is my question: Do you think the RAM is the issue? The store used that same RAM that was in the previous computer that had sleep issues. Do you think it is the RAM or something else.

Feb 1, 2012When my computer goes to sleep it will not wake up, and I have to shut down using the power button on the back and then restart. I called support and they advised me that this only happened when the computer went to sleep on it's opwn but not when you manually put it to sleep, But that proved not to be true. It will not wake up under either situation? The support persontold me to logonto applke and re-install the sytem software which I have done but that did not cure the problem either. I have my preference set to never sleep. I am ar]t a loss as to what to do now as when it goes to sleep or I put it to sleep i sometimes will not start up even after shutting down and restarting.I am on 10.7.2?

May 5, 2012My Mac would not turn on this morning from sleep mode. I pressed the power button and nothing. Then I did it again and heard the fan shut off inside so I tried again and up it came. Also I cannot wake my Mac up unless I press the power button. I used to press any key on the keyboard or move the mouse and it would wake up, but now that doens't work. I don't know if this could be a reason, but my mother has a horrible habit of unplugging it when it storms. It's always asleep and I've told her not to do that and to make sure it's turned off before ripping the cord from the wall. But she continues to do it when it storms.

May 28, 2012Computer would only start after sleep mode if I unplugged the power cord. The power button would not do anything, even if I held it for a long time.
Shut down and start up would work normally. Only effected sleep mode.
After much trouble shooting I found that I had a bad USB hub. Everything on the bad USB hub would work fine so I didn't suspect it.

I have had consultations twice with Apple support junior team members, looking forward to a senior team member reviewing my case. It looks like some sort of eraser wiping the blank dark screen revealing the login screen underneath.
Oh by the way my first iMac was sent back due to dead pixels, how unusual is that?

Jun 1, 2012I just purchased a set of Mushkin Apple 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 1333MHz SODIMM 9-9-9-24 (976647A) RAM for my mid 2011 27" iMac and everything ran great for a few days. I was able to sleep and wake the machine with no problems. Last night I was doing some graphic intensive work on my machine and when I had finished, the fans were still running high but I was going to bed so I put the machine to sleep. Normally the fans would stop at this point but they kept running. I assumed the machine was still hot so it was just cooling after sleeping. The next morning the machine would not wake. I had to do a hard reset to get it to boot up again I tried resetting the SMC and PRAM but it still doesn't wake from sleep. Am I have issues with my RAM?

Jul 1, 2012My iMac becomes totally unresponsive after sleeping for any length of time. It will not wake from sleep, even if I connect a wired keyboard; and it will not shut down or restart until I reset the SMC by unplugging the comptuer from power for 15-30 seconds. I can restart the computer after resetting the SMC, but the same thing happens every time the computer goes to sleep.Â
I have also set the computer sleep slider to "never" and reset the PRAM. Although people have been complaining about this issue for months, Apple's Lion updates have not addressed this issue.Â

Feb 19, 2012I'm using an iMac (late 2011) with 10.7.3. I'm doing things on the computer or some process is going on when the screen instantly goes black (no dimming first). If a video was playing, I can still hear it playing, but pushing keys on the keyboard or mouse or pad does nothing to wake the screen. Sometimes pushing the power button a number of times will get the screen to come on, sometimes it won't. When the screen goes black, if an external drive was running and then stops, I can sometimes get the screen to come to live. Sometimes this black screen happens when I'm burning a DVD; when the DVD is finished, I can bring the screen to life. I thought one of my two external drives was bad, so I disconnected it. That seemed to help (though verifying the disk revealed no problems). But a few minutes ago, the screen instantly went black again; no dimming first. There have been times I thought this was associated with a new bit of software, but then it returns even after I delete the suspect software. Sometimes I have to use the power button to shut down the iMac then restart it. Once, I had to unplug and replug the iMac before I could get the computer to respond and the screen to return to life. I don't know if this is a hardware problem (internal or external), a software problem, or some combination...or something I haven't thought of, at all.

Feb 23, 2012My iMac is set up wireless. Every time it's allowed to go in sleep mode, it loses wireless connectivity. Then, when I wake it up, I must go to System preferences, Network and request it to reconnect to my home wireless network. It always does this successfully, but it's quite annoying that it seems unable to achieve this on it's own. My iPad 2 and kindle can do this, why not my iMac?

Mar 9, 2012In the last 2 months or so, I have seen my MacMini 2011 OSX 10.7.3 crashing withing a minute of wakeup, after sleeps of more than 2-3 hours.Â
Sometimes the Black screen occurs almost immediately, sometimes it takes up to a minute after the desktop appears (after logging in). This did not occur until I got 10.7.3 and only within the last 2 months.

Jun 14, 2012I have very recently upgraded to Lion on my late 2009 Intel Core 2 Duo iMac. When the machine goes to sleep on wake up - instead of going to the log on screen, the display remains black but when I move the mouse the display creates a grey pixel trace wherever the pointer should be. I also end up with the desktop clock in the top right.
To log on, I have to literally "colour in" the area where my profile icon should be which enables me to input my password. Also, on wake up, any applications that I had open like Safari, Word, iTunes etc are all closed and not open in the dock. On a separate matter, when this happens I cant wake my imac up to access my itunes library for home sharing on my ATV3 and 4S.

Jun 28, 2012I will soon be getting a new macbook pro ret (soon) and will leave my macbook (13-inch, Aluminum, Late 2008) in the office where I am situated in university. I am looking to ensure that I can leave one at office and one at home. Yet keep access to both, I have seen "logmein pro" and seems to look good except one problem. It says to wake from sleep you need a computer on network running logmein. This I cannot guarantee as it is a university network. It also says that it will need to be linked to the network through cable to wake from sleep.
I will also need to close the lid of the laptop (or leave it open and risk trashing it) and have a password/login lock incase someone decides they want to be naughty. Anyway, I need a program that i can use over wifi (not highest priority) that WILL wake my macs from sleep (highest priority) and WILL (essential) allow me to have full remote access to computers including drag and drop. I dont care about accessing from my mobile as have drop box.

The window for energy saver is not like the display in support, it is missing the "Allow the power button to put the computer to sleep" option. Very strange. Jul 23, 2009I have an intel based mac pro running tiger. When it falls asleep if it's asleep for an extended period of time...say 45 minutes or longer, it won't wake up. I have to manually power it down. If it's asleep for less than 45 minutes it wakes up fine.

Mac Pro :: Locking Up After Wake From Sleep?
Jan 6, 2011My Mac Pro 1,1 with a recently installed 120 GB OWC SSD Rev. 343A has been locking up (spinning beach ball) mostly on the "Enter your Password" screen when waking up from full sleep or displays going to sleep. I have to perform a hard reboot then it works fine, til it falls asleep and I have to wake it up. If I put it to sleep via the Menu it wakes up normally without issue. I've run Disk Utility, says it's fine. Repaired permissions. Ran the daily, weekly and monthly scripts. Cleaned my Cache with Onyx (not sure what else I could do with it)
Disksomnia is installed for FCP, to keep the disks spinning, never was a problem before. The SSD is the only major change in recent times.
Any knowledge or thoughts as to what I could do to find the problem?
Computer's up to date OS wise, 10.6.5, 12 GB Ram, Seagate 750's HDD's in the three other bays, Blackmagic card PCI, eSATA extender cable for two OWC Enclosures, other FW800 external HD's, NVIDIA Geforce 8600 GT & 7300 GT video cards for three monitors.

Sep 1, 2006Having some trouble with my iMac (the version right before the intel iMacs came out. further info can be provided if needed). Running all the latest software updates etc. When I put the iMac to sleep, it goes off as normal. With the usual white light. However, when coming to wake the iMac it won't respond to the keyboard or mouse. I have to shut it down at the power button, and then turn it back on.
