Intel Mac :: Won't Connect To Replacement Netgear N300 Router
Jun 9, 2012
My iMac could see and connect to my previous Netgear N300 router, which I replaced with the same model router after it got fried by a lightning strike. All my devices (ipods/tablet) see and connect to the replacement router, except my iMac. so the problem is with this desk top.It sees but refuses to connect to the new router. I suspect the imac is not allowing the previous profile to be overridden.

I have an older MacPro 2006 model. I need a WiFi card for it. I want to know which one to get. Says a 802.11g AirPort Extreme will work. But is that only for Airport routers or can I use it with my Netgear router? Does it matter?

It took me a lOOONG time but I finally bit the bullet and bought a macbook. So far so good, I will be giving it a memory upgrade in a few weeks but right now I could use some serious help.
The computer won't connect to my Netgear WGR614 wifi router. I called Apple, they said the airport works and I may need a router firmware update. I updated the Netgear router. I have tried using the WEP, the WPA and also tried with the router set to zero security. The macbook still won't connect. Here is the kicker, my old windows based laptop and my wifes newer netbook picked up the new upgrade without issue.
The macbook (I loaded all the macbook updates with hardwire) will go through the network diagnostics and end up being unable solve the problem.

I just switched from DSL to Cable and had to buy a router for the cable modem. I can't get it to configure with my Mac Pro. It worked with my Macbook Pro after some fiddeling. It's a Netgear gigabit router. My Mac's normally just hook up to the networks.

I also have a G5 that is on wifi with the same router but never gets disconnected, I do not know what to do, I am getting sick of getting up to reset this connection every 10 minutes there has to be a way to stay connected.

Someone told me this was a good wireless router to use with Mac OS X, but now that I've bought it I can't get it to work. I tried plugging my computer into the router and the router into my DSL modem, but when I turn them all on in sequence (modem, router, Mac), I can't connect to the internet. Does anyone have experience with this router?

I just got a WNDR3800 Netgear router and I have not been able to get it to work. I have a PowerPC G5 iMac running OS 10.4.11 . The system requirements on the box includes Mac OS, no version specified. So I assumed it would run with my OS version.

I have an old Belkin pre-N router and Virgin internet.
I am considering getting a new router and was wondering what people think about the airport extreme versus others, specifically the Netgear N300 dual band routers, such as the WNDR3700? Both are about the same price.
I have 3 Macbook Pros and an old Windows xp computer and my mac pro currently on our home network, with my mac pro on the ethernet cable and the rest on wireless.
Is the range on the airport extreme good for outdoors as well as going through walls to upstairs?

This is I believe a NetGear router issue (or maybe a Comcast issue), but has anyone else seen this.
When I download content using iTunes, the router will just halt every 20 to 100 MB of download. I can get restart the download (for 20 to 100 MB) by rebooting the router. But this is no way to live.
It is my assumption that the NetGear router is the cause, although I've had it for several years. But a second possibility is download caps on with Comcast ISP.
If anyone knows the cause for these issue, I'd like to hear it. What would the ISP like Comcast do to an iTunes download load if you hit a download cap? Would it have that symptom?

I bought a Seagate 1TB USB HDD from Amazon. It says works with windows on the box but I wanted to use it to store and share files over my network via the readyshare feature on my Netgear router.
Is it not possible to use this product with a mac? Are there any recommendations as to HDDs suitable for my purpose?

I recently acquired an iBook G3 600MHZ with an Wireless B Airport Card. My router is a Netgear WNR2000 that is standard N but is backwards compatible with b/g. I have no idea how to set this up. I've tried and it doesn't connect. Oh, and I am running 10.2.8.
I went to Starbucks and it connected there instantly. So I don't know what's going on.

I have a blackbook (intel core 2 duo) and I can connect to my landlord's wireless network (they have a netgear wgt624) but I can't actually use the web (Safari or Firefox will just "think"). I've tested the diagnostics and it confirms that my mac can connect to the network, but it cannot connect to the internet. The network uses WPA personal and it has a 19-aphanumeric passphrase.
*Also - would it be possible for me to extend the wireless range (and make it possible to browse the web) if I used my own 2wire wireless modem to connect to the netgear wgt624?

I have been struggling for ages to get my Internet DSL access through all the rooms in our house but lamentably failed so far.
My main router is a Netgear Wireless DG834G V2, 54MBPS. 2.4 GHz, 802.11g that works perfectly within a limited range.
Hoping to extend my range of access, I have added to it my old Airport Extreme Base Station 54 Mbps 802.11g, connected with an ethernet cable.
But still, the connection fails to connect in one bedroom upstairs, only a few feet away from the bathroom and other rooms that receive both a clear connection.
I tried connecting my some 4 years old Airport Express in this bedroom but I could not succeed having the green light ever?
Can anyone helps with a simple, clear and detailed explanation on how to process to set-up this system right?
Do I really need to have the Apple Extreme connected to the Netgear?
Should I replace the old 834G router by a more powerful one and which model would you recommend?
Or should I scrap Netgear and use only Apple Extreme Base Station (or the latest model)?

I have finally retired my 13 inch macbook i've had for over 3 years. I bought one of the unibody 13" macbook pros and did a clean snow leopard installation, then upgraded to 10.6.1. Since then my mac experience has gone from bright sunny days to death and doom.
My airport is the major issue, it keeps dropping signal and doesn't pick up my netgear router. it works for 5-10 minutes then just looses it by itself. i try and see if there is an update or something for it but it crashes the airport and i have to switch the airport off and then on again. This is along with all my favorite snow leopard/13" mbp issues which include but not limited to the laptop freezes, hangups, and just failing to come out of sleep mode!!! most of these issues requires me to force restart the machine. I'm now back to my old laptop seeing that I'm struggling to connect wirelessly.

I've always had problems connecting to the Internet but last night my iMac refused to connect to the Internet. Everyone else in my house can connect to the Router but for some reason I can't - I try going through the network diagnostics for Airport and the first 2 steps turn green, but the rest remain red. It keeps changing from 'No IP Address' to something about a self-adressed IP address. I went into my network utilities and it appears that I don't have an IP address (according to that)? Right now it's just impossible to connect to the Internet.

Got my MacBook Pro today and can't connect wirelessly. Internet works fine when plugged in via LAN cable. I've noticed that whenever 'Mac friends' come round they can't connect either so it must be a Mac only problem. Obviously this wasn't really a problem but now I've converted it has become one.
Router: Netgear DG834G

I cannot connect my 2006 macbook pro to landlord's netgear router. It won't connect at all. I can connect my windows XP laptop though with a netgear rangemax wireless PC card (not without it even though my ibm t41 has wireless built into it).
Password to the router is 13 digits long, 64 bit (according to the landlord) and WEP encrypted. I tried adding $ symbol but then it won't let me add some of the other password digits. Using Mac osx 10.4.11, 2.16ghz Intel core 2 duo.

I have a Netgear N900 router and although I can find the signal I cannot connect to the wifi. Each time I clicked on it, it would fail to connect and say to move closer to the router. However the router has already been upgraded to make the signal strong enough to reach my room. I have tried restarting the router and it has not worked. I have gone into the router through my browser and reserved an IP address and changed my network settings on my computer to "using DHCP with manual address" and entered the reserved IP address. I restarted my computer but now my macbook pro says that it is connected but I can't connect to the internet when i open a browser. I'm not sure if I'm not reserving the IP address correctly or if there is another solution to this problem.

Our iMac running OS X 10.5.8 has several problems, some of which may be related.
1. The hard disk is close to full. I am not sure this is the root problem. I would like to either find junk files that I can delete (sort of like disk cleanup in Windows) or copy some old, but possibly still useful, files to a CD or an external hard drive, but I have not been able to do so.
2. I cannot connect via WiFi to my home LAN. If I try to connect, I get an "invalid password" error message, even though I am using the same password that other devices are using to connect successfully.
3. I cannot open iTunes because an unknown error occurs (13014).
The problems started when we tried syncing an iPad and the process would not stop. Then there was a temporary power outage.
We have also recently tried adding a Time Capsule to our home network. I am not sure that it is configured properly. I want to continue to use our older router for WiFi but use the Time Capsule for backing up Macs.

I have tried to connect to a Netgear WGPS606 wireless print server. I cannot get any document to print to it. The computer recognizes both printers that are connected to it and will print to each one if they are directly connected to the computer, however, I am unable to connect to the print server. Has anyone done this? I have contacted both Apple and Netgear and no one at either place

I am trying to connect my MacBook Pro to a new Netgear router (the Mac worked flawlessly with the previous wireless router). It claims to be connected to the Internet through Network Diagnostics but cannot resolve any sites (or gmail etc) in both Safari & Firefox. (And yes, all updates have been installed, and yes it connects flawlessly via Ethernet.)
I don't think it's the new router as my iPhone happily connects through it as well as a wireless PC notebook that I have, so why is the MacBook Pro having a problem?
