May 29, 2012I cannot delete email the "normal" way. When I set up my POP account, it created a second trash folder with the same name as my mail account. There are thus two folders in my Trash can - "On My Mac" and the one named after my email account. When I try to delete any mail it says that I cannot move anything to the Trash folder for my Mail account. I have to DRAG all email I wish to delete to the "On My Mac" Trash folder? I just want to be able to click delete and have email go away! Why is this not working?

Mar 4, 2012I accidentally moved MS office 2011 to trash and cannot get it back... "put back" option is not in bold. Have read many threads to drag it to desktop, applications etc but am afraid to do this. should I just re-install the program as I have the disk? but my main concern: if I reinstall, will I lose existing files of Word, Excel, PP? I see them now converted to I-Works, will they remain? BTW - I have not backed up on time machine in over 2 months!

Apr 3, 2012I foolishly installed PocketCloud Companion (which was a ripoff) and now am unable to delete it from my apps folder under Finder. When I try to move it to the trash, I get a message that the app is still open. Where can I see it running? This also happened on another occasion where the move to trash cannot be done because "The item can’t be moved to the Trash because it’s open". And I don't know how to find where it is open so I can close and delete it.

Feb 28, 2012When I try to delete my email messages a pop down box shows up on the screen telling me that "The message (whatever one it may be) could not be moved to the mailbox 'Deleted message-mail.comcast.net does not allow messages to be moved to it.Â
Is it possible for me to have deleted the original trash box from the left hand column of the mail page?And that is why these email message cannot be delelted?
I have been given all kinds of sites to go to in hopes of correcting this problem but none of them has been the one that works to correct it for me I have over 45,000 messages that I need to get rid of and I just can't figure out how to get them to move to the trash file or folder and it doesn't work.

Jun 2, 2012I'm in Mail and my trash has about 80 deleted messages. I cannot figure out how to do a mass delete. Please don't tell me this has to be done one delete at a time. I've tried a few key strokes and mouse/key combinations, but obviously not the right ones. Now, this is not in MAILBOXES, where a right click and Erase Deleted Items does the job. This is under my 'GMAIL' box, which is linked to MAIL. I can right click--erase deleted items there until I am blue in the face to no avail.

Mar 27, 2010I bought me a brand new iMac. I freaking love this thing, don't know why I didn't make the jump (back) sooner. Anywho, I have two external hard drives in which I used to transfer data, including some pictures and audio from my Windows Vista computer to the new Mac. I go ahead and finish transferring over the files. When I go to delete the files off my external hard drive, I am met with a "the item (insert file name here) can't be moved to the trash because it can't be deleted". Now, I notice that this happens with ANY file or folder that I attempt to move to the trash can from either of my external hard drives. I can't seem to find a solutions anywhere either via a Google search or on this forum.

Nov 12, 2005My phone calls and it's my (pc-centric) friend Kasper. He's on msn with his girlfriend in Switzerland and she's panicking. She's just accidentally moved her desktop (including everything on it off course) to the trash. She's also trashed Skype (might have been on desktop?!?). And now she can't move it back out again!Unfortunately I'm not the master of Macs that Kasper hopes and I've no idea what to do about this except try to restart. Apr 23, 2010I have a 500GB external harddrive that uses TM and have recently wanted to free up some space, so stupidly I manually moved a ton of the backups (I can't even imagine how many gigs) to the trash. The trash bin now can't even fathom the amount of space and literally doesn't empty itself (it goes to like 140,000 items to delete and just keeps going). So I read that you're not supposed to delete TM backups this way but now I'm kind of screwed because I can't move the files from the trash to the External again cause it takes too much time. What the hell am I supposed to do?

Then instead of that folder to appear in the Trash (as it should be), it is automatically gone and do not appear in the trash! what is this but i am suspicious that is the password protection thing that is responsible for that!

1) When I set a program to auto-clean files (for example, deleting source rar files after unpacking) it doesn't work
2) Whenever I try to delete a file, I get a warning that "This cannot be undone", and it's doing a permanent delete rather than moving it to trash.I've verified that I'm not using any Seagate drivers, and the drive shows up as the "Orange" generic external drive.

Final Cut Pro X :: Saving Event / Project If Erroneously Moved To Trash From Library?
Jun 25, 2014I accidentally moved an event from my library to the trash (from within FCPX using the 'move event to trash' command). I realized what I did right away and hit 'undo' from the file menu. When I open the event library I can see everything there, but the project is not showing up in FCPX, even after restarting the program.
Is there a way to save the project? I also saved all of the project files/folders, including the 'current version' to a separate folder before accidentally trashing (copied them to a backup with the master files I created). Is there a way to restore those files? I like to save the project folders/files with my masters in case I ever has to revisit any project for any reason. Figured I could just drop them back into the directory and then reimport all of the 'missing' media.

Mar 6, 2009I dual boot my iMac using Boot Camp and I'm having problems deleting a bunch of files in my Trash. A short history. I purchased a OWC external hard drive case and I've been going through my old hard drives which originally were used in my Windows XP computer. The drives were contaminated with Windows viruses and so I installed the drives one by one in the OWC case and proceeded to delete files and programs which I didn't need in each drive while in OS X and keeping the files I wanted to save in each respective drive. Now what I'm faced with is a Trash bin filled with Windows XP software (including Windows XP itself) which I cannot delete because OS X says I don't have permission to delete those files.
