I'm trying to find what specific HDD I can buy to get my iMac (Early 2008) up and running again. Although now over 4 years old, this desktop has been great! It looks like I can replace it myself, but I want to buy the right part.

I am returning my 27 inch I-Mac and getting a replacement (gurgling HD). I noticed some other forum members have done the same and some multiple times. I was curious once receiving the new unit how does one go about re-installing easily bookmarks, addresses and downloaded applications. In other words can one use time machine via external harddrive info from the old machine or does one use migration assistant? What is best approach???
I updated from dual core to quad core for the replacement. I felt it was worth the extra dollars to future proof my machine for future applications. I could not justify the added expense for the reported quieter 2 TB HD and decided to take my chances with the I TB again.
I'm looking to the size of the Hard disk drive in my 2009 17-inch pro. But can't find if the case will take a 1T HDD or not. As the 1T drive are around 12mm and not 9.5mm of the smaller one right now.

My friend has a 20 inch iMac (model MB324LL/A) and he has bought 2x4GB SO-DIMMS from cosair. He has put them in and the mac wont recognise them, however it will recognise and boot up with 6GB (using 1 old chip and 1 new one) and he has tried swapping the chips about to make sure one is not faulty.
According to cruicial and Apple the max supported is 4GB but if it runs on 6GB can he get it to work on 8GB somehow?
Does anyone know if the panel used in Apples 24 inch Cinema display is the same as the 24 inch iMac?

Battery
I had a 11 inch air 1.4GHz/4GB/128GB for two weeks. I usually set the brightness to 75% and for consistent web browsing (no heavy flash) I can get about 5h15min battery life. I noticed someone here claiming 8+ hours battery on 13 inch so I decided to give it a shot.
I got a new 13 air with 1.86GHz/4GB/128GB yesterday and start to run on battery immediately. I was disappointed. The brightness was also set to 75% and I start to count the time from 25% while browsing MacRumors.com. And it only took 1h38m for battery descending from 25% to 0%. Again, pure web browsing and no heavy flash.
So here is my conclusion: On 75% brightness, 11 inch air's battery performs beyond advertised 5 hours and 13 inch's battery performs fair and normally should give you around 6h30m~7h.
Noise
I don't have equipments for measuring the noise, but while copying the same 10GB files from external drive to the machine, the fan noise from 13 inch is much louder than 11 inch.
Now I like my 11 inch more in general, although I really hate the 1366 x 768 screen. I don't know if I should sell the 13 inch or 11inch...

I have a late 2009 27" iMac.I am very capable of repairing my own machine. I replaced the HD over the holiday break without a glitch. My struggle is my SuperDrive needs replacing.It will no longer burn dual layer disks. So, I thought it would be simple to find a replacement and get one ordered.The names of drives don't really help shoppers shop by brand, etc. Mine is a "HL-DT-ST DVDRW GA11N". Nice. Try googling that...Some say that name relates to an LG brand drive, while others clearly don't agree. How is an end user supposed to replace such a part if trying to find an exact match it is so difficult? Also, there have been so many others with failed drives that I really don't want to buy a used one, as I'm sure it too would fail; however, general internet serches don't give me many options for new. Perhaps that is because I still don't know the true brand of the existing "turd" that is in my Mac.I'm tired of looking and not seeing much out there. You would think there would be clear options or ways to shop for an "upgraded and compatable" drive.

How can I make my replacement usb keyboard adjust volume? In keyboard preferences I have selected 'use all f1,f2 etc keys as standard function keys' and in keyboard shortcuts I deselected (disabled?) f10 - application windows, f11 desktop, f12 dashboard shortcuts, and allowed full keyboard access all controls. Previous keyboard instantly controlled voilume using f10, f11 and f12 - no adjustments necessary.

My iMac could see and connect to my previous Netgear N300 router, which I replaced with the same model router after it got fried by a lightning strike. All my devices (ipods/tablet) see and connect to the replacement router, except my iMac. so the problem is with this desk top.It sees but refuses to connect to the new router. I suspect the imac is not allowing the previous profile to be overridden.

Ok so i have one of the 2011 Imac desktop models so i didnt get the dvd's. I want to know how to restore/format my computer and start over because its been running really slow lately. i was told by a apple consultant that if you hold in the "option" key on startup of the computer that it will bring you to a point where you can restore but i dont know what to do from there. how to restore/format my Imac so that its like when i first bought it. I have a mid 2011 27inch i5 desktop and the fan noise is so bad.. I've had 5 macs and they have all been pretty quite..This thing is unbelievable. Had to have the HD replaced because it was making a grinding noise, fixed now but the fan drives me mad.. took it to apple and they say this is normal. $1800.00 for state of the art technology... having had a few imacs i would expect the same as what i got last time, thats why i bought another one.. But this is definitely not what i got last time !I sit at this thing 10 hrs a day sometimes... i can't believe i piad 1800 bucks for something that makes more noise than my air con in silent mode...

my imac is about 3months out of the box and a few days ago i went to turn it on and....nothing. i could hear the start-up chime and the mac clicking and making "doing" noises, also i could clearly hear the volume toggle up and down. That said, the screen remained, well, dead and just black.So, the first thing on my agenda for the weekend was to take my imac into the shop. As i was organising the equipment, i tried one more time to turn it on.It worked.For me, that's a bad thing as my mac may do this again. It was out of action for 3 days now it's back. I just got the new 24 inch intel iMac yesterday and it was working fine until tonight. I installed Skype and as I was using it, the computer froze and said I had to restart. So I did that. It happened again, but this time, it wouldn't restart. It went grey and kept making loud beeping noises. I looked up what could cause this and it said that if the RAM was upgraded improperly this could occur. The problem is, I never upgraded the RAM. Its been working fine for the past day until now. No mini display port of any kind. So is there an adapter for me? My old monitor can use either VGA or HDMI and I'm not really fussed which one I use. I have a 27" iMac. Just recently, the screen has begun to randomly shut off. I then have to squeeze the power button, followed by a click of the mouse. This will bring me back to my password screen. Sometimes, that would be it, other times, it will do it repeatedly, for no reason, and then settle down.
Just for those of you who are bound to ask me about my Energy saving settings: Computer to sleep – Never. Display to sleep – 15 min.
It seems to me that this could be a hardware issue, but just incase any of you have had any experience of something similar, I thought I would ask.

To those contemplating on picking up the 11-inch MacBook Air or the 13-inch MacBook Air, I thought it would be helpful to list the differences between the two.

I am trying to use my HD Sansui 32 inch LCD TV as a monitor for my Macbook. I can't work out how to set it up properly. My macbook is running OS X 10.5.8. My TV supports 1920 * 1080 HDMI 60Htz NTSC and various other resolutions. I am using a mini DVI to DVI adapter and then a HDMI lead to the tv. Problem one is that when I switch the Macbook on and close the lid nothing comes up on the TV screen (meaning it is supposed to only driving one screen, the TV). If I do this with the VGA connection it will. Momentarily the apple symbol will come up and the little circle below it but then my TV says signal not supported.
If I have the Macbook lid open when I switch the computer on both screens will work and I can select 1080P, however it is very grainy and not pleasant to read text. I think it looks better using the VGA. I have heard of people getting nice crisp display with HDMI so I am wondering if I am missing something? Is there any other software that can be used to get better results? Which text smoothing settings should I use? Are there other settings? I am using it on my desk so I guess it is about 2 foot from me. I will post my display details in a minute but my computer details are the following:

I really like it, but the screen seems to constantly be adjusting brightness...Almost as if it is "flickering every 5-10 seconds. It is extremely annoying, and I think I will have to return it to apple. So another two weeks of waiting for a computer.
