MacBook Pro :: (17-inch, Early 2009) Install A Replacement Hard Drive?

Apr 20, 2012

I'm looking to the size of the Hard disk drive in my 2009 17-inch pro. But can't find if the case will take a 1T HDD or not. As the 1T drive are around 12mm and not 9.5mm of the smaller one right now.

IMac :: Early 2009 24" Hard Drive Not Showing Under Devices

Nov 8, 2009

I'm not sure what the culprit is because the night I downloaded the last update of 10.5.8, the circuit for this room also blew. I don't know if it interrupted the download or not, as I wasn't paying attention. However, the next morning I woke up to the gray screen and it never booted. I finally was able to boot it up and the hard drive had a name like kjkldfjkjdkljafkjadkj. I renamed the hard drive and ran disk utilities on it. It needed to be repaired, so I installed the installation CD and used disk utilities from it. It says everything is fine. However, the hard drive now does not show up under Devices when using Finder. Also, everything seems to be a lot more sluggish now.

IMac (Intel) :: Grey Green Tint Over Entire Display / Early 2009 24 Inch

Jun 25, 2014

early 2009 Intel iMac 24". OS 10.6.8.

Working in Excel today, I was highlighting groups of cells with color when the entire screen suddenly had a pale grey-green tint. Can still see colors beneath, but everything tinted (not just the Excel window, but the entire display). White, of course, is most dramatic. The Dell monitor beside it is fine.

I've recalibrated color a half dozen times (have always had to do that to get the Dell and iMac screens as similar as possible). It's impossible to get white on the Mac.  Rebooted several times, including hard boot, zapped the PRam, ran Permissions Repair and Disk Repair from the startup CD. Installed Temperature Monitor to see if there's a heat problem, but I could not find normal temp values anywhere on the Web, so that was something of a bust. Temps attached below in case there's an educated set of eyes out there....

Ran some online tests, too, for color distortion, dead pixels, that kind of thing, but nothing reveled.

I've been all over the Web looking for some guidelines, but most posts at apple and elsewhere seem to focus on later-model iMacs with the yellow lower screen problem when new (It's not that) or panic screens of wild colors, stripes, and the like. This is just a grey-green tint that covers the entire screen, rendering whites grey-green and colors muddy.

Mac Mini :: Install Uneven Pairs Of RAM In Early 2009?

Mar 27, 2009

I just bought the base model Mac Mini yesterday, and I am going to tear it open today to put in a bigger hard drive and more RAM. My question is...since I don't need the entire 4GB of RAM, I am happy with 3GB. The system has one 1GB chip in there already, so can I simply just pop in a second 2GB chip for a total of 3GB? I wasn't sure if they had to be installed in pairs or not. Is there any downside besides obviously the memory not being under Apple's warranty?

If you bought an Early 2009 Mac Pro with the 1 TB hard disk drive, what is the brand and model? I am most interested in knowing if the 1 TB HDD is a 32 MB cache or a 16 MB cache.

I believe if you get your Mac Pro with the 640 KB HDD it's only with a 16 MB cache.

MacBook Pro :: How Much Noise Should The Hard Drive Make On Early 2011

Mar 22, 2012

Had since May/June last year i5 13" and only since I applied all updates few weeks ago it seems to be louder than it was before?

It sounds like a fan but isn't... obviously. Right hand side of track pad, and covering it, in fact just touching it dampens it to barely audible. Is that normal or has something gone a bit weird? A constant fan noise, which isn't the fan is now there permanently.

I think I read that the 1st macbook only supports 1.5gb, but I was wondering if the 3gb would still work.

MacBook Pro :: 13inch Early 2011 No Longer Recognizes Internal Hard Drive?

Apr 6, 2012

last night my MacBook Pro (13inch early 2011 model) froze on me so I let it be and closed the lid. In the morning it was still frozen. I did a hard restart and got the question mark on a folder icon. I tried everything, resetting PRAM, etc, etc. Northing seemed to work untill I plugged in my external hard drive (used as my time-machine backup) and I got to the re-installation/ utilities / safari / restore from backup screen. In the utilities it saw my external hard drive, but not my internal main drive. Any ideas? I've read hundreds of similar posts and nothing seems to resolve an unseen hard drive. Oh btw I plugged in another SATA HDD and it didnt recognize that either.

Macbook Pro Early 2009 Won't Write To Disk

Now, when using iMovie, and then iDVD, it takes an hour and produces a blank DVD. Other than a lens cleaner, how do I test the drive before my AppleCare runs out?

MacBook Pro Randomly Shuts Down Even After Hard Drive Replacement

May 26, 2012

I have a mid 2010 MacBook Pro that has been shutting down randomly for quite a while now. It seems to happen most when I have more than one application running but sometimes happens with nothing running at all. It seems that the screen goes off and the sound skips but the keyboard light is still on. I thought it was because I had a bad hard drive but I replaced it and it still randomly shuts down. I ran smart utility and it all passed. I just don't understand what can be causing this? I take this computer to school all the time and it's kind of embarrassing having this shut down on me mid-presentation.

MacBook :: Early 2011 13 Inch I5 Fan Running Constantly

Apr 8, 2012

I currently have a 13 inch MBP early 2011 notebook that has a fan running constantly. The fans are not making horrendous noises indicating that the fan is broken or that a foreign object is bouncing around in my computer, but more so you can just hear the fans operating especially in a quiet room. The sound is very soft but in a dead silent room you can hear it working, you can even make out the sound even while typing. I am pretty sure my computer isn't broken, nor have I downloaded anything I am not supposed to that would allow my fans to make the noise. I bought this computer on the 26th of December and all I am using it for is simply MS word and logic pro 9. I uninstalled logic pro 9 a month ago due to my family buying an iMac and even then I can still hear the fan moving. I am curious as to what you all think, I may just bring it into the Apple store because it's quite frustrating having to write a paper and all you can hear is the sound of the fan working. My fans are running at 2000rpm and my research tells me that that number is normal.

MacBook Pro :: 13 Inch Early 2010 Gets Really Hot And Fans Get Really Loud?

May 24, 2012

I have an early 2010 MBP (13 inch) whose RAM I upgraded to 8GB and the hard drive I upgraded to 750GB.Ever since I installed OSX Lion it takes ages to boot up (far slower than Snow Leopard which booted up almost instantly from turn on).Furthermore, when running, it gets very hot when running Windows virtualisation software inside OSX (VMWare Fusion 4/Parallels Desktop 6/7 - same results) and the fans turn on and become noticeabley loud. The machine is still under Applecare Warranty, is there anything I can do myself to resolve this, especially the heat/noisy fans?Is it due to having to work harder to virtualise Windows inside OSX and so run both systems concurrently, thus requiring more resources?

MacBook Pro :: Hard Drive Replacement (Supported Maximum Capacity)

May 30, 2010

I bought my Macbook Pro in February or March of 2006 and it's still running strong. The hard drive, however, is full and I'd like to get a new, larger, faster one. I'm aware that I need a SATA drive and that it's form factor should be 2.5". I'm also aware that the max transfer rate for my drive is 1.5 Gb/s, can I use one that is 3.0 Gb/s? I think the current drive is 4200 or 5400 RPM, can I use one that is 7200RPM (this computer is mostly used while on AC power)? What about maximum capacity? Are there any limitations due to BIOS or the motherboard? Here is the drive I'm looking at, please let me know if this will work or if you have a similar, better solution.

Here are some of the specs from my MBP:
Model Name: MacBook Pro
Model Identifier: MacBookPro1,1
Processor Name: Intel Core Duo
Processor Speed: 2 GHz
Number Of Processors: 1
Total Number Of Cores: 2
L2 Cache: 2 MB
Memory: 2 GB
Bus Speed: 667 MHz
Boot ROM Version: MBP11.0055.B08
SMC Version (system): 1.2f10

TOSHIBA MK1032GSX:
Capacity: 100.03 GB (100,030,242,816 bytes)
Model: TOSHIBA MK1032GSX
Revision: AS024B
Native Command Queuing: Yes
Queue Depth: 32

I'm looking for at least a couple of different peoples' opinions, or if you have a link that points to replacement HD requirements that would also be very helpful.

MacBook Pro :: Trackpad Not Working Properly 13 Inch 2011 (early)

Feb 9, 2012

My trackpad suddenly stopped working well more precisely is being erratic. When I move my finger across the pad the pointer is not moving and when it does move there seems to be a lag. The gestures are not working properly etc and the pointer would move on its own not by much but a little bit. I have tried SMC and PRAM and that has not helped. I attached an external mouse and was having problems with moving the pointer, however when I selected disable trackpad when external mouse is attached the external mouse worked just fine. All of my software is up todate I am running OSX 10.6.8.  I hope I do not have to get another track pad the laptop is about 7 months old and I have an apple care plan but I am out of the US for the next couple of months so I am looking for fix I can do myself.
