Mar 15, 2012I have been with this problem since 4 months ago. I think after I updated Flash Player it stopped working. I have tried to restart the SMC but it didn't work. I have been taking care of my Mac Pro very well since I bought it last november 2010.

Intel Mac :: Firewire 400 Camera Doesn't Work With 800 Port?
Jun 26, 2012I have a firewire 400 camera that i'm using for a project and one firewire 800 slot on my iMac (Late 2009). When I plug the camera in, nothing responds no matter what I do - tried resetting the PRAM and SMC. Compare this to my older iMac (Late 2007) which has both firewire 800 and 400 ports. I plug it in and it pops up using the underlying Quicktime controller api on either the 800 or 400 port no problem. So I figured after trying to install a firewire camera library (libdc1394) which I need for my project which didn't work, that it must be a hardware issue, so I took it to the Apple store. The genius at the store booted the OS (Lion) from a firewire drive via 400 to 800 cable (no external power to the f/w drive was used) and then using the spare 400 slot on the hard drive, he plugged (daisy chaining) in my camera and it loaded! So this suggested 2 things - my OS is corrupt or my card can't read straight from my device but why a hard drive in between would change this is beyond me. I came home and installed OS X on to an external USB hard drive and loaded up from it - so this is a fresh version of Lion, there should be no software issues. Plug the camera in to the I/O board of the iMac but load the OS from the external USB hard drive - nothing happens, the profiler doesn't detect anything at all. On a side note, I installed XP and Ubuntu Linux and they also can't detect it, which further suggests its the device or I/O board when interfacing directly with this camera. I've tried providing the devices with external power, daisy chaining 2 cameras, using a usb hub....nothing works. Just for good measure, I tried to boot Lion off the external USB on my older iMac and again, it worked no problem, which to me really narrows it down to the hardware.Â
I feel like perhaps the port is a bit dodgy and when the genius daisy chained it, it worked better, but no idea why. Someone said I should get a firewire 400 to usb adaptor

May 26, 2010anantech reports on Intel's graphics card statement posted yesterday which notes that there will be no Intel discrete GPU (duh) in the short term and that Intel is focusing with "laser like precision" on integrated graphics.Not too much here, except that it indicates that Intel will be sticking to their own integrated graphics strategy for the long haul. As the author notes, it also validates AMD's approach with ATI.The article says to expect a 2x improvement over current Intel graphics for the early 2011 chips, and another 2x for the following chips.

there are situtions when you don't want to download photos, sometimes I'm just doing tests, and want to see photos in the camera instead of downloading them first.. ( at any rate this should be my choice to make, not Apple's....;-)
and: I want to see the camera in the FINDER (not iPhoto or any other program where you have to "import" the photos.. I don't like those programs and never use them..)Â
it doesn't even show up in Adobe Bridge, for pete's sake.. this is ABSURD..
but on the pc you see it right away in Windows Explorer... no reason whatsoever why the mac shouldn't do this also...

Dec 10, 2009I'm considering purchasing someone a 15-inch MBP that only has the 9400M. This machine after rebate is $1499 from Mac Connection, which makes it only $200 more than the high end 13. Yes, you only gain the screen on this configuration, but $1499 is an attractive price for a 15. However is this model seen as a bit of an odd model, in that it only has integrated graphics? The user would never play games, so it seems paying for the second graphics card would be unnecessary ? Whereas the benefit of the extra screen real estate, would be nice for them surely.

Apr 2, 2012My Mail and Address Book do not appear to be talking very well. Out of the box, the mail application does not appear to let me select recipients from the Address Book when composing a message. I added the "Address Book" button to the toolbar for composing a message. I can click this and bring up the address book, but there is still seemingly no way to select recipients from the Address Book.Â
I read somewhere that the "auto complete" function is supposed to reach out to Address Book when entering recipients' names in the "To" line. This is not working. I found some suggestions to go and delete a file in the Library that governs this function. I did that, but it has not worked.Â
What am I missing? Why is it so difficult to select people from your address book and send them an email from the Mail application? Is something broken here or is this a reality for this Mac? My wife is ready to kill me for throwing out her beloved PC.

Feb 14, 2010I may have sold a PC user on buying a mac and she's interested in the MBP. I noticed that some models of the MPB have a "NVIDIA GeForce 9400M + 9600M GT with 512MB" while others have the "NVIDIA GeForce 9400M." Are either of these integrated graphics? And what is the advantage of the models with "NVIDIA GeForce 9400M + 9600M GT with 512MB?" That sounds to me like it has two video boards. Why would Apple do this? And is there a big difference in video processing power between the models with one video board and two?

Jun 27, 2012See the new Macbook Pro that I recently got has two graphics cards. One, the integrated, standard issue Intel HD4000 and the other one, a Nvidea GT650M. Personally, I was thrilled to learn this. However, my Macbook Pro seems to switch in between these two and I really don't want it to do that. I would rather just make the GT 650M the main graphics card and avoid using the integrated graphics.
