I got a 21.5' mid 2010 iMac with i3 processor. Why does it change from 1333mhz to 1067 mhz after upgrade from 4GB to 8GB Ram?

I have recently bought 2 4GB 1333MHz memory to be used with my Mac Pro mid 2010 nehalem processor. It works fine, turns on and all, but after opening a few programs and letting it run a little and i ask him to shut down, it takes me to the grey screen with the little rolling ball and does not shut down.

Installer ran for maybe 8 minutes, then said it "cannot change the contents/data of the hard drive". I don't remember the exact word. I had to use boot from CD and the keyboard eject to get the CD out. Now my MacBook Pro won't boot. It gets stuck on the grey screen, then after several minutes it shuts down. I bought the laptop used 2 years ago, and don't have a Leopard disc. What can I do?

I'm not sure the details on mixing RAM types these days, particularly with ECC/non-ECC. I have the stock 27" i5 iMac (so presumably 2x2GB chips). I have 2 1333mhz ECC 1GB chips ([URL]) available to me. Would it work to pop those in to the 2 empty slots in the computer or would mixing the types cause problems?

So I wanna go buy the 21.5 inch 500gb iMac but it is running on snow leopard and I know lion is out now and mountain lion is coming out in June.....
