View 6 RepliesHow do I back up my iMac hard drive in order to update the OS from 10.6.8 to 10.10.1?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have just installed a new hard drive in my imac intel 20" (2006) and upgraded the memory and now the hard drive does not show up in the 'select destinations' folder of the install program. I can see the hard drive in the disk utilities window however it wont let me do anything. It is a seagate 1TB SATA II drive however it is displaying it as a 7.3 TB.I have tried to erase and partition and get the same error message each time, 'Input/Output error'.
I have tried starting the thing with the install disk which is Mac OS X (Tiger?) which came with the computer

After the latest Leopard update, my imac can not find one of the external hard drives attached to it via usb. I have check all the usb ports with other devices with no problems. I checked the external hard drive on another computer and had no problems reading it.
View 2 Replies View Relatedwhere on the hard drive to place the Quicktime update once it has downloaded onto a Mac? I can't seem to find the right location, and now cannot operate iTunes. I am using Firefox. My husband uses Safari, and I think I may have to download for his ID, as well.

This happened after a software update. I've attempted to repair it and as a last resort, reformatted it. It still freezes, crashes, and/or randomly reboots. Is there anything else I can do?
View 1 Replies View RelatedSo, I just had the original 300 GB hard drive fail in my aluminum 24" inch Mac running the latest update of Leopard. I wasn't able to save it using diskwarrior (diskwarrior said it was some sort of mechanical failure) but I was able to recover most of the data from it by booting from an external hard-drive.
So I went out and purchased a brand new Western Digital Caviar Black 1TB drive. The install went fine, it found the drive partitioned it and installed Leopard successful. Then is crashed and disappeared when I left it alone to run all the software updates. I came back and the computer was stuck on "Restart Required" after downloading all the updates.
I went to hit restart now, and the system just hanged, wouldn't do anything. So I hard powered down the system and restarted it. It came up with nothing, just stuck on the White Screen of Death. So I plugged the external drive back in and booted from it. Mac OSX couldn't find the drive and diskwarrior would crash if I tried to run it. I tried to boot up from the OSX start-up disk and it couldn't find the drive either.
So I took the case apart and made sure all the connections were solid and the drive was mounted correctly. Everything looked fine so I plugged it in and it started up fine. Finished the updates and the iMac ran great. So I thought maybe it was overheating, so I've installed smcfancontrol and started to monitor the temp of the drive. I also took the mac apart again and sucked out any dust in the fans or vents. The drive never goes over a 105 F, so it doesn't seem to be overheating.
However, this is where the problem is consistent: everytime the iMac goes into sleep mode, it crashes and the iMac is unable to find the hard-drive again. Unless I unplug it completely for 5 minutes or so. Once I unplug it, it finds the drive and operates like a champ.
I have updated to OSX.7.4 but but now my external hard drive icons have disappeared from my desktop? The disks are recognized in disk utility and the "show external disks" is ticked in Finder Prefs. Disk Utility did show some errors in 2 or 3 of the disks which have been corrected. It is just since updating to the latest version of Lion this has happened. They are linked via eSATA cables and are in two Sonnet containers (4 hard drives in each). CF cards show up OK. My back up Chronosync, fails to run as it does not recognise the disks.

I purchased a G5 in 2005. Never once used the drive for DVD. So I decided to use it today, and it doesn't work. I tried to burn a DVD that didn't work. The drive doesn't even recognize it. I did some research, I came to the conclusion that I have to update the pioneer d112 firmware. Seems simple but the pioneer update is for windows format!

How do I transfer all data from my old internal hard drive to a new internal hard drive? I have an iMac with a 320gb internal HD that is full and I am replacing it with a 2tb internal drive. I have several external drives; 1 tb, 2tb and 3 tb. The 2 tb is being used for Time Machine. Do I have to buy an enclosure? If so, where would I get an inexpensive one? I also want to partition the new internal drive for Windows, and I'm not sure how much space to use for that. I plan to use Windows to check my work in PowerPoint created on my Mac for clients on PCs.

My internal 1TB hard drive on my iMac is dead and I don't have the money to replace it at the moment. I have everything backed up on an external 1TB drive using Time Machine. As a workaround for the time being,Is there any way I can install the system on the external drive and use that as the boot drive without erasing the Time Machine Backups? It seems to me I would have to have two partitions for the external drive, one for the system, and one for Time Machine. But is there any way to add a partition without erasing the existing one with Time Machine only on it? Â

From what I can figure out I'm in need of both more space on my computer and more ram.I've deleted enough that I now have 300MB free (from 1TB). I'm a photographer, so those RAW files of mine take up a LOT of space. It wouldn't hurt for me to put a few folders onto an external harddrive. I think I can hook up my current external harddrive and a new one up with a hub and have both of those backup with my online backup service. leaving my computer with a lot of free space. (I'm using Crashplan). I'm scared to have all those photos in just one location... this way they'd be in two. Would this work?According to the Activity Monitor I have 1.28 GB of free space (666.1 MB page outs). So programs like Lightroom, etc. are starting to run a little slow. Financially I'll only be able to do these two things one at a time. Is there one that's more urgent than the other
View 10 Replies View RelatedDoes anyone know a quick way how to copy pre-recorded/purchased DVD's to my iMac's hard drive, so I can watch via my Apple TV? In the past I've inserted the DVD and it's appeared on the desktop, I then choose to copy it, and managed to paste it into iTunes, but it takes at least an hour to copy to the hard drive. Any ideas? I've tried Mac the ripper, but wasn't sure how to get that to work,

Startup screen is white with spinning circle. I've done all the work-around's. Won't download a new version of Lion. Disk utility says everything is fine. EVERYTHING IS NOT FINE. Can't start up from a disk. This is my 14th Mac. Kind of disapointed.

I have a imac (intel) running snow lepord - i was using the maching when it froze up with the dreaded spinning wheel. I left the computer sit for 45 min with no change then powered down using the power button. I let sit for a few min. then restarted using the power button. A screen showed up with a folder with question mark flashing. I looked in support and saw that I should try a few different things and then got to the section...if this doesn't work put the DVD startup in the computer and hold C while starting. I did this, went into disk utility (as the directions stated) and once there my harddrive is nowhere to be found.I am guessing my HD is out but not really sure. This Imac is less than 1.5 years old and has already had one HD go out.
