Intel Mac :: Unsuccessful Rebuilding M/S Office Database Following The Installation Of A M/S Outlook Update?
Jun 4, 2012
Running Mac OS X 10.7.4 with M/S Outlook 2011. I am a two day old ¨baby¨ on a MAC [heretofore a M/S OS PC user]. Did a M/S update yesterday including a ¨CRITICAL¨ M/S Word 14.2.2 version installation.Following the installation, I got a notice that "an older version of M/S Database daemon is running and I must first delete "daemon" from Startup Items & then restart my computer.See MAC OS help." OK, I confirmed daemon was not in the Startup Items and restarted my computer. Now, when I attempt to open M/S Outlook I get a notice that "There is a problem with the Office database. To use the database you must rebuild it using the Database Utility"...Two choices " Cancel" or "Rebuild" If I chose "Rebuild" I am notitified immeditely that "To use the database utility, you must first quit all Office applications" [There are no office applications open EXCEPT the Database Utility which I confirm using the Mac´s Force Quit Application]. In any event, I <click> "Quit All" and after about 3 minutes a box popsup telling me the same thing "to use the Database Utility I must first quit all Office applications".
If I choose "Cancel" on the the original notice that stated "There is a problem with the Office database. To use the database, you must rebuild it using the Database Utility." the notice disappears from the screen for about 5 seconds and then reappears. As an aside, I followed the instructions detailed by Christopher Breen, Macworld.com dated 18 April 2012 article "Undoing the damage wrought by Microsoft´s Outlook update" wherein he details a procedure to "REPLACE" M/S Outlook´s Database Headers with a working copy and thereby rebuild the Main Identity Database. Here again, after I <click> "REBUILD" in the Database Utility it comes up "UNSUCCESSFUL" in rebuilding the Main Identity database.
I have Outlook 2011 for Mac and have had to go through the Rebuild Main Identity procedure 4 times in the last month. Can anybody tell me what is causing this and how to remedy it so that it doesn't happen again?

I am using Entourage 2008 on Snow Leopard. I deleted folders in Entourage and when I tried to delete them from the "deleted items" folder, Entourage crashed. I force quit and then tried to rebuild the database, but that also froze. Restarted the computer and was able to open the "rebuild database" window but it keeps freezing at step 5 when I try to rebuild database.
I am getting a dialog box about upgrading the Office database. It keeps reappearing even if I click "Quit Outlook" or "Upgrade".I cannot make it go away.
"check with devleoper to make sure microsoft outlook works with this veriosn of mac os x. you may need to reinstable the application it used to work fine but recently stopped working. further error detials below

I work for IT Support in a company and i've been handed a Mac that gives 9 beeps (3 short, 3 long, 3 short) which signals a system board problem. I am trying to get the user set up on a Windows laptop as we have no spare Macs for him and i am transferring the data from the Mac HDD to my laptop. The problem is, the emails on the HDD are in the database format and not the .mbox format. How do i convert it to a useable PST?
Since I upgraded my Intel IMac to a 2tb drive I've been getting the software update telling me there are two updates to load (involving a restart) the download works and the instalation appears to be normal until the restart when the system tells me the install failed. Anybody getting the same problem?

I am trying to install Microsoft's latest update for Office 11 and I can't close Microsoft database daemon or Sync-services app to install MS Office 2011 14.2.1 update. No idea how to close it. I read that in some cases an older version of Entourage caused some problems so I deleted Entourage - can't use it anyway - but that didn't work. Have rebooted several times over several days and same problem remains.
I just made an upgrade forr my MS Office 2011 for Mac; everything went well until I started The Outlook part. I got a message that read something like: there's an old version of Microsoft Database Daemon running; delete the daemon from the start elements and restart the computer. Now my question: how do I delete this daemon?

My domene and emails have been moved to office365. I connect fine with my ipad and iphone. The webmail also works fine from Safari. But when I try to add account from mac mail or outlook I get a message that I can not connect to server.I have Mavericks 10.9.3 and office 2011 installed.
I'll try to provide as much detail as possible, but keep it simple. Running Fusion 3 (newest update) and XP Pro with Office 2007. Office connects to an Exchange 2007 server. Emails work great. However when attempting to access the OOF settings, I get an error "Your Out of Office settings cannot be displayed, because the server is currently unavailable. Try again later."
Google searches say this is a known issue with Outlook 2007 on an Exchange 2007 setup and that there are errors with AutoDiscovery (or something like that). I have talked to other's with Outlook 2007 and their OOF is working just fine (inhouse or through VPN), so the Exchange server settings are fine.
I think the problem is actually Fusion since it's not communicating with the Exchange server for the OOF settings. I don't quite understand how all of that works, sorry.
One suggestion was to change the network settings in Fusion from NAT to Bridged, however when I do that I lose all connections to the network. I have also set the MAC address on Fusion to that of the Mac with no change either.
As a test, I installed Office 2010 Beta and it's doing the same thing. Outlook 2003 apparently does not have this issue, but I haven't tested that yet on the Mac/Fusion.
Just to be sure, I downloaded every Windows/Office update to eliminate any configuration changes. Anyone else experienced this?
UPDATE: OK, if the system is on the network, the OOF works fine through Fusion, however if connected to VPN (using the built in client) it gives the above errors.
I am using a trial version of Office 2011 for Mac! When I try to import the outlook pst files from my pc and follow the correct procedure it doesn´t work. Outlook only says that it has encountered an unknown problem and is shutting down.I talked with Microsoft support but they don´t support their trial versions only premium. That I think is funny because if the trial version is not working how can you trust them that the premium version is working.
my Brother purchased Microsoft Office 2008 for mac and gave me one of the licence codes, however - the code that I used to register my copy is apparently being used by someone else and so Microsoft Office has stopped working. I don't know whether I entered it wrong or whether the key he gave me was one of the ones that he had given to someone else...
I've now bought my own Microsoft Office, however - when I attempt to install it, it doesn't ever ask for a new 'product ID' and just proceeds with the install as normal, then later on Office stops working and tells me that I have an invalid product ID.
this is not a matter of Outlook changing the default email application to itself, after an Office installation, the Mail app has completely disappeared from my Mac. Searching from Spotlight -and even from the command line- finds nothing. The app just disappeared. did Office do this? Nothing else changed before or after the installation.
I forgot my administrator's password for my home computer. I purchased office 2008 for mac with a free upgrade to office 2011. I upgraded it to 2011 when it came out (late 2010/early 2011). I have since made a new password and forgotten what it is. The mac tells me to reinstall my microsoft office but when I do, with the office 2008 disc, it tells me I have MORE RECENT SOFTWARE and to use that. I did it on line and cannot find it again.
how I can change the settings on my iMac which will enable me to gain access to a citrix database? I am getting a SSL error 61, my mac does not trust COMODO Extended Validation Secure Server CA.

When I try and use software update, it will display "checking for new software" and go about 80% of the way in the bar, then freeze. The bar stops animating, I get a spinning wheel when I mouse over it, etc.
I also cannot force quit software update when it does this, and not even "killing" the application does anything. It also hangs on shutdown, so if I want it to go away, I have to do a hard reboot.
I decided to download the 10.5.7 combo updater, and use that.
So I did.
However, the combo updater hangs at "configuring installation" for over an hour. I can force quit that, however.
I don't know much about mac troubleshooting, I have repaired my disk permissions plenty of times, and also ran verify disk, and it believes the disk is fine.
Yesterday my wife's IMac (Bought in 2007, running SL)started to "Crash" Safari, and firefox were freezing and then the problem expanded to other programs like itunes. So this is what I did.
1. Copied all music and pictures to an external drive 2. Used the installation disk to restore a backup from time machine 3. Left it overnight 4. This morning the Imac said restore successful please restart 5. I did and then I got this grey screen with a picture of the power button on it telling me in lots of different languages to press the power button and restart. 6. I have done this about ten times now and it just keeps coming back
I am running the Imac with a bluetooth keyboard but do have access to a wired one. No idea if that makes a difference just thought I would mention it.
I was using OS X 10.3.9 in Mail 1.3.11 on my wife's computer. There are several mailboxes on the e-mail account. I was not able to get my mail from my mailbox, only saw some italic script telling me to go online to get my mail. I was already "online" so I went on and off and on again and nothing changed. So I noticed the "rebuild" option and clickd on it, not sure what it might do but it sounded promising. Well all the email in my inbox disappeared and around 12,000 others that my wife and I shared. Can I recover them?
New to mac with Macbook pro os x leopard - tried to send too many pics on email and it bounced back. now the my mac recovery area in mail continuously tries to recover it, slowing the system to a (pc like) crawl. How can I eliminate this recovery effort?
I'm running into an issue (a new issue) with my mbp. Every time I run the software update, it seems to download all the files just fine. Once it tries to install, it tells me an error has occurred, although it doesn't go into too much detail. I tried repairing the disk permissions, then I tried clearing /Library/Updates/.
The updates I have available are: iMovie Update 8.0.6, iPhoto Update 8.1.2, Mac OS X Update 10.6.3, Brother Printer Software Update 2.3, Airport Base Station Update 5.5.1, iTunes 9.1.1, and Digital Camera Raw Compatibility Update 3.2.
I accidentally deleted all my iTunes music, movie, app, etc files while trying to move it to an External HD. I was able to restore the files using third party software, from the sql layer. However, each fille now has a name like "54678990.m4v" as opposed to "Thor.m4v" and it appears they all need to be "re-linked" to the titles in my iTunes window interface.
I restored the files to the External HD actually, and when I click directly on them, they do play in iTunes and a little exclamation point appears next to the name of the file (eg, 'Thor' in the iTunes window). That is telling me, I think, that there is some kind of issue with naming and linking to the actual file on the External HD.
Is there some relatively easy way to do get this all straight and clean and seamless for like 1000 files?

I am having trouble with the bluetooth on my MacBook Retina Display (software is up to date). My MacBook will not connect to my iPhone 5, nor will it connect to the bluetooth headphones I just purchased (Sony MDR-XB950BT). When I try to pair the devices to my MacBook, nothing comes up in the field of recognized devices, except for other laptops around me. Sometimes, my iPhone will show up quickly but then it will say the pair was unsuccessful. My headphones have never appeared on the devices list. However, I can connect my headphones to my iPhone perfectly fine.
I noticed that when importing photos into Iphoto, sometimes the importing process will hang or take a long time to finish. I would usually have to close Iphoto and import the photos again. My Iphoto Library is about 70GB. I decided to rebuild my Iphoto Library hoping that it would fix those issues. It took several hours to rebuild. Afterwards I opened Iphoto and noticed that when enlarging alot of my photos, there was a blur in the photo before it would display. This mostly occurs with my large sized photos. I never had this before. I decided to import some photos that are already in Iphoto (ones that when enlarged have a blur) from my picture folder. When I enlarged them there was no blur. Should I try rebuilding my Iphoto Library again but this time just select "rebuild all of the photos' thumbnails". I also notice that some of the thumbnails are blurry.
I do the Sp1 update and the april 14th update 12.1.7 I think it is, it stops running. It keeps asking to update then close cuz it says nothing to update and then there is nothing so I do it again same thing. Just doesn't open. And I googled and I know a lot of people have had this problem. I also deleted the 2 files that most ppl said should work but when I put in my serial key after I deleted it the "continue" button doesn't take it to next page. It keeps getting clicked but it doesn't respond.
want to update my office 2011. The update must be downloaded from microsoft web page. It is not signed as an update for the office 2011. Apple Pro wants to delete it. How to install the update?
