Jun 14, 2012I have an old Mac, an LC. Back then, USBs were not even around yet nor were CDs for that matter. However, the information on it (max 40 Megabites, not gigs) is very valuable to me and I woul like to know how to transfer it to the iMac with Lion. It does have an s-video port and I remember connecting a modem to it at one time. Most data was transferred using 3.5 inch diskettes back then.

Mar 26, 2012I have Quicken 2007 for Mac on my G4 and would like to move it to my new iMac currently running Lion. I downloaded the recently-released update that will allow Quicken to run on Lion, then downloaded the file to an external USB drive. I then uploaded it to my iMac, and Quicken opens, but does not have any of my account information. I then deleted the files from my iMac and downloaded another copy of Quicken 2007 from the Quicken website. I then downloaded the update to my iMac, but it would not open. So, it appears that I have to transfer it form my G4, but need to do it in a way that will also transfer my data.
I ordered a firewire cable and am planning to try to move it directly. In the meantime, does anybody have any tips? Just so you know, I really want to use Quicken.

Feb 29, 2012I have a 2011 Macbook Pro and an older (5 year old) Western Digital external hard drive. I have always used this hard drive for both mac and windows. Recently, however, whenever I go to transfer a file from the mac to the WD hard drive, the little transfer window pops up and it appears to initiate the transfer. However, it never fully starts it. It appears to "get stuck" in that initiating stage, showing zero of 3.16 gb transferred and shows an unknown transfer time. This happens no matter how long I leave it open. Again, I have used this external hard drive with my macs for the past 5 years without any problems until now. I haven't moved or modified the WD hard drive

I plan on using Migration Assistant with firewire. SEEMS pretty straight forward. Need to transfer all applications and data. I still haven't entirely shaken my Windows past, so I am a bit nervous. Also, after the transfer is complete, what is the best/most secure way to wipe out the MB HD, reinstall OSX 10.5, and prepare for an ebay sale?

Dec 5, 2009Like many, very recently I took the plunge: 27" iMac / Quad Core / i7 / 1TB HDD / 8GB RAM and I couldn't be happier! What is the best solution for transferring data from an old hard drive (formally inside a PowerMac G5) to the brand new iMac? My first attempt was with the 'Akasa Integral HDD External Enclosure' however this doesn't appear compatible with the file structure of Tiger, let alone Snow Leopard. The PowerMac G5 tower itself has a failed power supply, so connecting from Mac to Mac isn't an option either.
