OS X :: Start Up From Install Disc - Run Disc Utilities From Earlier Version
Jun 1, 2010I have recently tried to run Onyx which has identified a problem which requires me to run disc utilities from the start up disc. The Snow leopard disc I have only appears to offer Install option.
Q1 Have I missed something?
Q2 Otherwise should I try to run Disc Utilities from an earlier version of OSX

May 4, 2009i'm trying to install leopard on my Imac G5 running tiger but here's the deal.
i got a leopard start up disc from another Imac thinking that i could just put leopard on my Imac...all the requirements are met but it doesn't work.
MacBook Pro :: Won't Start From Install Disc - Makes A Noise & Ejects?
Jan 16, 2010I wanted to use Onyx to check the status of my new macbook pro and it told me that the startup volume needed to be repaired. I tried first of all a safeboot as I understood that this would do a disc check but I wasnt told anything from that.
So I then inserted the disc OS X install dvd (10.6) and restarted the MB. After the chimes, i pressed the 'c' button. I have tried two times, once just pressing the button, once pressing & holding (no-where does it say which to do). I have found on searching alo that I may need to press the 'option' key but I have no idea where this is!
Anyway, the disc makes a repetative noise and then ejects, and then the MB starts up.. but not from the disc.
What am I doing wrong please??!

Mar 9, 2012Im getting an error message that states Mac OSX start disc has no more available space for application memory. Also color wheel continues to spin with no progress. Computer gets hung up. Computer is only months old.

Apr 4, 2009My G-4 startup disc is full and now the computer won't start up. I am told to put a startup disc in the drive and restart from it, but I cannot get the disc drive to open. I have tried everything, including copying over to external hard drive. I read that if you hold the mouse button down, the disc drive will open, but this hasn't worked.

May 16, 2012I forgot the Name and Password I set up to log into my imac. It is an older imac, from 2006 and I can't remember which version operating system. I have tried to use the install disc to reset the password, but it does not allow me to do so. Is there a way to reset the name and password without the install disc? For as long as I can remember whenever I would turn on my mac there would be an image that I had chosen and then a field to enter password. Just recently I turned on my mac and the image or avatar was no longer coming up and it asked for Name and Password. I have tried every combination I can think of and nothing works. I have tried to reset using my install disc, but it says that I do not have a password to reset.

Oct 13, 2009Please take pity on a confused newbie. I'm running 10.4.11 (Tiger) on a 2 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo 13" Macbook with 1GB ram. My school requires me to run Bootcamp to take my exams. They told us that we need 10.5 minimum OS and must have our 'original system discs'. The installation dics that I have are for Tiger. If I buy an upgrade disc to Leopard/SL, will that contain the windows drivers I need to install after I install bootcamp? Or do I need to buy a full installation disc of Snow Leopard (since I think you can't buy the Leopard full installation anymore)? Another issue someone mentioned is that both Leopard & SL require 1BG ram minimum, which is what I have. I'm worried the os will run very slow, but I don't really have the money to buy new ram and get it install (and don't want to crack the fragile top case) now that I have to buy the new software too.

Jun 2, 2008Well, my question is very simple: I have a MBA and this other laptop from work, a crappy HP which is old as hell. I'm planning to use Remote Disc to reinstall my Leopard, since the upgrade to 10.5.3 really screwed things here, and I can't figure out why. Point is: instead of running all Leopard installation thru Remote Disc, I would prefer to share Leopard disc 1 over Remote Disc and restore it to a partition on my external HD, making a clone of it, which would install *much* faster. Has anyone tried anything like this? There's any Windows program which allows me to rip a Mac DVD to a Mac partition?

He gave it to me with a fresh install of Leopard on it, but he unfortunately no longer has the disc that came with the computer that he also used to format it before handing it to me. I'm not sure if it's an image or if it's the OS install DVD. I bought a Mac Pro, quad Xeon 64 bit monster. The guy I bought it from had to retain the HDD for legal reasons. So, I bought a couple of drives that I'll slot in. Question: Can I use the install disc from my MacBook Pro to install Leopard on my Mac Pro?

Aug 15, 2010I installed Windows with no problem. Now I need to install the drivers, aka the mac disc. There are 2 mac discs I had in my Macbook Pro package. I put in my first one. It was, surprisingly a blank CD. I put in my second one. It did show BOOTCAMP this time, but it only had the options 'Remote Install Mac OS X' and 'DVD or CD sharing'. I couldn't install them. Sep 6, 2009Whenever I start up my mac book pro with my LaCie 1TB ext HD attached via FW800 it tries to boot from the LaCie instead of the internal HD. Obviously there is no OS on my ext HD since it's a movie back up so I just get the flashing folder icon.
