Why is my Mac so slow to load internet pages? My iPad is much faster!
Info:iPad 2, Mac OS X (10.7.4)
My iMac has just gotten all grumpy and weird with me, when attempting to browse anything on the internet (or even trying to access the router via 192.168.1.1) everything is ridiculously slow or just doesn't load. At first the speed went down dramatically - i went on speedtest.net and did a test, the page took a good 5 mins to load and after the test it turned out that i had a speed of 0.2 Mbps (my average speed on a good day is about 2.5 Mbps, shocking i know!) Ive tried turning the computer off and restarting it to no avail. Im doing this on my Macbook Pro which is sat next to the iMac and with a speed test is coming up with speed of about 2.2 Mbps, so its clearly the machine and not the internet/router. Ive tried using Safari, Chrome and Firefox they all provide the same, unusably slow responces.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have an iMac model identifier 9.1, with Mac OS X v10.5.8 and safari version 5.0.6. All programs are running normally (fast) except safari. When I try to load webpages it takes about 11 seconds to fully load. All other computers in my house are connected to the same internet and running fine. What do I do to make the loading faster?

I've recently brought a mac book never had one before. In the month I've had it page loading is really slow i have done the required updates, and nothing has been downloaded. I have tried some of the things people have suggested, cache delete, history delete, etc but nothing has worked.

I have a macbook pro and have recently noticed that when initially loading any of, google chrome, firefox or safari it takes a very long time for the internet to load the webpages.
It says that there is a full wireless connection but will not load the webpage.
Once the webpage has finally loaded after about a minute, subsequent browsing is as fast as can be expected upon my broadband connection, loading pages in <1s.
However the problem reappears whenever I open a new window, or anything else that might use the internet such as the app store, itunes or apple software update.Â

Is there a way to tell which one is slow, if anything is going slow? I have an extremely old PC which is normally ok for most things, but gets bogged down if I am doing too many things.I was so annoyed with our national real estate site after they changed the format that I wrote a letter once a long time ago.. and I was ready to let them have it again, listing all the reasons why it is so bad and so much worse than the original.
Today for the first time, I accessed the site (mls.ca) using my new iMac. It was like lightening speed, comparatively speaking.Wow, suddenly I knew why the mls people hadn't changed their new format. But then I started going to other sites.. like airmiles.ca for example, and it was slow as heck... and stalling.. etc.
How would I be able to tell whether it is an internet slowness or the computer being slow?
Since upgrading to Snow Leopard (SL). I have noticed a painfully slow access to sites when using Firefox and Safari. Pages used to load almost instantaneous with Leopard. Now when using either Firefox or Safari on SL, It's taking an average of 8-10 seconds to load a page in my web browser. Feels like I'm on dialup. I have the fastest internet service you can get (Roadrunner Turbo Plus), but for some unknown reason my internet page access is painfully slow. I'm really thinking of using Time Machine to set my Mac back to Leopard, but I really don't want too. I figured I'd wait a few days to see if this problem surfaces, and perhaps a solution can be found.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI have used Azureus on this computer with this cable modem for over 2 years with no problem. Recently, I bought a new Mac Mini. I bought a router to hook them all up (Belkin G Wireless F5D7234-4 v4, firmware up-to-date). Everything works nicely. Except, now whenever I start up Azureus, web pages either load very slowly or not at all, usually hanging up on contacting the server. Likewise, my email program is unable to fetch or deliver mail reliable. As soon as I shut down Azureus, these problems clear up.
I'm still able to transfer files between the 2 machines while this is going on, it's just that neither one can reliably get through to the Net. (I thought UPnP might be a problem, so I shut that off in Azureus and forwarded the ports manually in the router. No change.) I don't think this is in any way connected, but I've noticed I can't set the admin password on the router. If I do, it appears to accept it, but then I can't log back into the router with either the default or my new password.
I have been using my 13" MBP since the 7th of August and since the first day the internet has been slow and it won't load pictures half the time! It will load a little blue question mark instead of the picture! I have three other apple computers and a netbook on wireless (not all at the same time, just to check internet speeds) and they all work perfectly so it isn't the router and it isn't 10.5.8 because I have not installed it!
View 5 Replies View Relatedately i had an issue which i cannot resolve here. My APE seems to be the main cause to slow my internet in loading pages up. My speed with the check from ISP, it is great. However, I realize that my ping time is kinda high? What should I do to bring my internet back to smooth loading up?

View 6 Replies View RelatedEver since I purchased my Macbook Pro over 3 months ago, watching videos has been very slow. It doesn't freeze, it just takes a really long time to load any video from youtube or any other website. Â
My internet speed is fine as I have another laptop (Toshiba running on windows vista) and video loading is really quick and don't have to wait for a video to completely load as it is already fast. So is the problem the Macbook or internet connection?Â
My Toshiba laptop is wirelessly connected to the internet though (Connected using ethernet cable). However, the macbook is wirelessly connected.Â

Since a month or 2 my internet, safari & firefox are slow. I tried lots of stuff, dns, had some helpfull youtube turtorial tips, but still I dealing with the same problem. When internet is loading a new, never visited, website or a youtube video it keeps loading until I click the airport button. When I click the airport button the site is loaded straight away and internet is real fast. Thing is, I just keep on clicking.
View 1 Replies View RelatedMacPro 2008 dual quad core and MacBookPro 2.66 mid 2009 both running OS 10.5.8. The Mac Pro which is hard wired is very very slow and many times will time out before it can load a page or will only load part of the page (lots of little boxes with question marks in them or page loads part of the way and stops)and the wheel just keeps spinning. Sometimes I can hit the x and reload and it will work just fine. Sometimes, this does not help. The MacBook Pro which is wireless behaves the same way.
The Internet Setup: DSL line runs from wall to Surewest (ISP) router, then out to a 5 port Dlink switch. From the switch I run straight into the Mac Pro and to the Airport Express. The Airport Express is about 2.5 years old. It runs b/g while the MacBook Pro has draft N capability. I noticed that since I replaced my older MacBook Pro which was b/g, the new one shows a much stronger signal, which is why I can't understand why its slower.
The Testing: I don't think its my ISP because when I run speedtest.net, I get what I always get, 3mb/s download and I have run that test many, many times over the last few days. The only change has been in the ping. It used to be consistently 16-17 ms and now it varies going as high as 24-26 ms. I have no clue if that is indicative of a problem. Data downloads, including iTunes work just fine. The only other change was that this weekend, I downloaded xmarks (formerly foxmarks) to unify and coordinate my bookmarks across both computers. I have since run the xmarks uninstaller on both machines and deleted the online account. However, it has not made any difference.
Attempted Solutions: I already rebooted the Airport Express and changed the channel from auto to a higher number. No effect. I will reboot the ISP modem tonight. I am also considering uninstalling and reinstalling Safari with the thought that xmarks somehow screwed it up, but I also had the problem in Firefox in which I did not install xmarks. If I pull the Safari bookmark.plst file before I uninstall Safari, I should be able to just drop it in to the fresh install and keep my bookmarks. Someone suggested that I switch to Open DNS. This is beyond my area of expertise so to speak, so I am a little afraid to mess with it.
Ive had my imac for a few months one day I came home tyuned it on and it just kept loading on the apple logo, it doesnt let me log in!

When browsing the web, the iMac can sometimes take ages to bring up a page. Sometimes I disconnect from wireless internet and then reconnect again. iMac is new to me but before I had a windows laptop and that was fine with the wireless internet.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI've been having a problem with Safari for the past few months it frequently freezes when loading web pages, sometimes it will eventually load, other times it wont. the blue progress bar in the address bar stops on about 10% with a plain white page it doesn't happen all the time but disturbingly it happens on pages as simple as Google search, not just data heavy sites. other symptoms include having to click links several times to get them to respond and I get the you are not connected to the Internet page when I go to some sites only to try another page from my bookmarks and it will load perfectly.

While taking a quiz for my collage class I moved the mouse and the screen enlarged. Im not sure what the exact movement of the mouse was. I was unable to submit this quiz because I was unable to scroll side to side. How do I return the screen to the original size? And any idea why I was unable to scroll side to side?

Hey guys, i got an old Powerbook that the whole family use to surf the net. I notice its been super slow lately. Ive never had a problem with this notebook, I've only done 2 reinstall in the time ive owned it. I recentluy did another one, and notice its still slow, loading websites is slow, cant watch movies on it. This is a notebook i use to do photoshop and illustrator work on.
Do you think its just its time? I think it could be the hard drive or memory, is there any type of diagnostic i can do to find out what the problem is?
why my new iMac internet connection is so slow on one of 4 computers on my network?
View 2 Replies View RelatedWe had a power outage and I had to reset my home network (two wirelessly extended Airport Extremes). We have four computers on the network.
Speeds are back to normal: 36Mbps down, 6Mbps up near the first AE and about 25/5 near the second wirelessly bridged AE.
Problem is with my iMac and another laptop. The network change must have corrupted both and each are only getting about 1/1 speeds. I tried restarting and renewing DHCP lease and trashing Airport Network passwords in the keychain as recommended by Apple and it solved the problem for a minute or two and then it returned. The iMac is only a year old and the laptop an older white MacBook.

My internet connection has always been very fast and I have never had any problems with its speed or loading of web pages. Over the last two day I have experienced extremely slow connection speeds and webpages have been taking forever to load. Is there a setting I can check or cache to empty to help speed up my connection? Or is there a disk cleanup to help get rid of whatever may be causing this problem?

Whenever I open Safari, it takes over a minute to open the first web page. Once the page is open, it surfs very fast. so it's not a problem with my internet speed. Just a problem waiting for Safari to open the first page.

when I open Safari, the page hangs up for a bit, I usually have to click on "Empty Cache"...then it continues loading. What is causing the delay? this also happens when I start up my Macbook Pro, so I know my cache is not full.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI just recently got DSL in my home and I am experiencing super slow load times on both Safari and Firefox. I know that is not a problem with the internet, modem, or router becasue my parents PCs and my PS3 all run perfectly on the WiFi connection.
I also recently updated to Snow Leopard on my Macbook.
Have any idea why I can't get my computer back up to speed?
