I have a MacBook running OS X 10.5.6. I just installed MySQL (version MySQL 5.1.30-ndb-6.3.20-cluster-gpl) on it and I was trying to create a new database within it. However, I am told I do not have the necessary privileges to do this. The message goes on to state to use the root user to create databases and grant the necessary privileges to the new account. When I try to connect with the root user id, I left the password blank, since I have never set the password. This did not work since either it already has a default password. I looked at a previous message regarding enabling the root login. In it they state I should go to the "Netinfo" manager in the Utilities folder. I don't know if this is on a different version of the OS since I can't find the particular app. I have experience with Linux and I know that the root user id is very sensitive and should be used very sparingly if at all.

I just bought a used Emac running 10.3.9. The previous owner does not remember the administrator password nor did I realize how important it is to have. I have the original install discs and did boot using the disc. I then went under the install menu and chose reset password. I changed the user password but have been unsuccessful at changing the admin password. The drop down menu in password reset gave me the option of Administrator (root), Application, or finally user. I have read a couple of articles cautioning not to change or work with root changes.

Ok so opened Directory Utility, unlocked it and then selected Enable Root User and set a password, locked Directory Utility opened terminal and typed sudo root.
When I entered the password I set I just get "Sorry, try again". Have tried going back into Directory Utility and changing the password but get the same thing.

I recently acquired a Power Mac G4 digital audio which is running 10.3 Panther. I was planning on doing some video editing with it using FCE 4.0. The only problem is I need to be running 10.4 or later. My only problem is, I can't install 10.4 because I dont know the administrator password, and I have no means of contact with the original owner. I also dont have the original install disks. How could I reset the admin pass so that I can install new software?

I inherited a G5 from a colleague who left the department however I was not given a firmware password. So now I cannot re-install the OS OR work in terminal. I have tried the remove RAM and then reset PRAM. I have tried booting off disk but that is locked. I have tried replacing HD with new one but cannot boot off disk to install onto it. What is left for me to try to get this working and now the person is not available to just tell me what password is, they left months ago.

Mail has worked flawlessly for me for several years. But this week, it stopped loading (retrieving) my messages from my .mac/me/iCloud service. For some reason, my .mac account in Mail is offline. When I try to take it back online, mail tells me that my password isn't being accepted. (But it works just fine if I go to my iCloud account and use it to log on and check my mail there. And it's no prob retrieving my mail on my iPhone, either.)
(I have several other e-mail accounts set up in Mail, and they work just fine. Only my .mac/me/iCloud account stopped working.) I've tried to change various settings in the preferences for the account, but it's been to no avail. Some of the various error messages I've received after trying to fix the prob: And here are info panels I see when I check the account in Mail's preferences: Note how port 993 is greyed out here; it's not greyed out for my other email accounts (and it's the same port w/ those, too).

I have the original WD 1.0tB hard drive that was replaced in my iMac27. It had some problems and would not boot; therefore, the mac folks replaced the drive. Unfortunately, there are a few files I did not backup on the old drive. To avoid getting into my iMac, could I slave this drive onto a PC to try retrieve the files, or will I need to slave it on my iMac? I have never opened my iMac (out of warranty with no extended), and am not sure I want to.
