Access to root account?
Info:G5 iMac, Mac OS X (10.4.10), 1.9ghz, 1.5Gb, 160HDD
On my Mac (10.6.2), I always would do this to access root if I had to:
sudo su - or just
sudo su
Well, I had to enable the actual root account briefly and then I disabled it. Now, I can't do sudo su or sudo su -, I just get a Sorry message. If I renable root, I can do it. What's also interesting is that both sudo -i and sudo -s work just fine with root disabled. Why can I no longer do "sudo su -" with root disabled?
I've done this before quite a while ago - and have now forgotten how!I remember there was an app in Utilities folder that allowed me to set up a root account so I had total control of my system.
Finally some mac news. Only not positive newsI don't feel well to translate it today.Source (Dutch):
View 1 Replies View RelatedThere is a folder on my mac that holds the program files for a program, I only have read access to the whole folder and the files within it, even when using the root account. I am not looking to edit an files, just rename one. How can I do this? I have looked online and found no help.
View 9 Replies View RelatedIn my keychain access I have the following:
com.apple.kerberos.kdc and com.apple.systemdefault both show "This root certificate is not trusted"
AND
Dashboard Advisory shows "This certificate was signed by an unknown authority."
I don't know what the notices mean (beyond the obvious that something is untrusted) nor do I know what to do about it.
I've been using cyberduck with only a few hiccups, but recently, I needed to create an ftp account for one folder. However, whenever I try to log into this new account it refuses to log in! I try the main ftp, and it works fine, then I disconnect and try the alternative It says that the "login failed" and then keeps prompting me to type in the password- which I do over and over until....well, you get the picture. Can anyone tell me what the problem is?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI am running my Macbook Pro at work through the LAN. My work has a windows 2003 server. Everything has been fine (well just about) until today, when I couldn't get onto any internet sites. It would let me access all of the local work intranet site, but it wouldn't even let me on google. It worked fine yesterday, and all the Win PCs around me were all still up and running. I tried using a different port but to no avail. Also, I am still trying to access my root drives that are on my profile space at work. e.g R:\Venusgroupswbl etc etc. I want to connect to these through my mac.
View 1 Replies View Relatedi have been trying to install filemaker server connector which needs root access. i enabled root user and logged into it for the install but the installer still asks to login as root.
is there anyway of forcing the installer? is there something else i can do to give the installer "root" access?
Logged in as root, when I try to copy my TimeMachine backup to a new disk I get:

I use safari on my imac. I was able to access a shared link (to access a briefcase) via a university website. It requires me to enter ID and password to access the briefcase. It also requires me to enter my ID and password whenever I click a new file in the briefcase. The shared link was okay until I let Safari remember my password. Now when I click the shared link, it says "Error 404! No such item". I am not able to access that shared link. Â
I tried to log on my imac with another user/account, and found out that the shared link is still working. I also tried to use my macbook and the link is working as well. So i guess that it must be something wrong when I let Safari remember my password the first time when I accessed that link. I have done Safari Reset and cleared all history, cookies, passwords, etc... but I am still not able to access that link under my own account. Â

After enabling the root user and logging into that account I tried to log back into my regular user and found that everything was set back to default. No files, pictures, anything... Â
Going into the Users folder I can see my account and it has all of the files on the desktop and such.Â
How do I log back into my regular user account with all of my settings?Â
In Keychain Access, My "Certificates" and "Keys", three out of the four root certificates are marked as: This root certificate is not trusted (in red) com.apple.ubiquity.peer-uuid- times two and one: com.apple.ubiquity.ssl - then five groups of numbers for each. Is this something that should concern me or is it something to do with the problems I am having, Mail - some addresses I use are not sync and have a warning sign! Are these certificates needed to be trusted for mail configuration?

I bought this new MacBook Pro a month ago. When I try logging into my guest account, it froze. I had no other alternative but to get out of it by pressing the power button. Then I tried open a new user account to see if it also has the same problem. Unfortunately it did have the same problem - froze after I logged in. I had done a harddisk check, there seemed to be no problem.

I just got a macbook. I used the migration assistant to tranfer files from my PC to my new mac and I can't access the account. It says the password has expired and that I need to create a new one but I can't change the password because my password isn't working. How can I access that user account. I don't want to do much on this user account because I know you can't merge two accounts...

After creating a guest account I noticed that anyone uses that account can use my (remembered) secured network connection. Normally, in my network settings, remembering used networks option is checked. When I look into the keychain, I see two entries for my network name. One is in my logins section and the other is in the system section. I suppose, the guest uses the entry which is in the system section. If I delete the entry which is in system section, it is been created again on next connection.
If I do not want any guest to use my network connection, I am having to cancel the remembering used network option and select disconnect on logging out option in airport advanced settings. But; if do this, I am having to select my network and type its password every time I login. I simply want if a guest uses the Guest Account, he wouldn't able to use my network connection without entering the correct password. Is it possible?

I'm unable to either login or access account info on the Mac App Store. I click "Login" or "Account" from the sidebar and absolutely nothing happens. I sit and wait, thinking perhaps it's just a little slow, and nothing. Anybody else having this issue and is there any way to fix it?
