Intel Mac :: Can A 2009 11,1 Be Upgraded To Lion
May 17, 2012
I have a 2009 iMac that I have tried previously to upgrade to Lion. I remember that it was severly unsuccessful. I do not remember why.Â
Model Name: iMac Model Identifier: iMac11,1 Processor Name:Intel Core i7 Processor Speed: 2.8 GHz Number Of Processors:1 Total Number Of Cores:4 L2 Cache (per core):256 KB L3 Cache:  8 MB Memory:8 GB Processor Interconnect Speed:4.8 GT/s Boot ROM Version:IM111.0034.B02 SMC Version (system):1.54f36Â
I do remember that I tried both an upgrade and a fresh install, but both were unsuccessful. Problem is that there are games and software that are coming out now that are only compatible with 10.7. It is time to get up to date, but either I get an dupgrade working or I buy a new iMac. Buying one just for the upgrade, seems a little counter customer centric.

Before I tear apart my iMac, it may just be faster to ask. I am considering simply upgrading the processor on my 2009 iMac instead of purchasing a newer model. Of coure the newer models could potentially have a different motherboard, mostly to support the Thunderbolt but if the differences between new and my 2009 model are not so significant, then a CPU upgrade may be more intelligent.Â
My current specs are as follows: Model Name:         iMac Model Identifier:         iMac11,1 Processor Name:         Intel Core i7 Processor Speed:         2.8 GHz Number Of Processors:         1 Total Number Of Cores:         4 L2 Cache (per core):         256 KB L3 Cache:         8 MB Memory:         8 GB Processor Interconnect Speed:         4.8 GT/s Boot ROM Version:         IM111.0034.B02 SMC Version (system):         1.54f36 Question is, without looking, is this a "socketed" model where I can simply plug a new chip in? Of course I can open my system up and see, but that will include "down time" and I prefer to avoid as much as possible. Just as with most "Winblows" systems and MBs, the chips are socketed and can easily be replaced where the MBs are compatible. Mac can't be all that much harder, but I can't say I have ever seen a MAC CPU upgrade for sale.

Since I use my machine a lot for photo work, this new feature on the refresh was nice. Question is does anyone know if it's easy to swap the card reader out of the 2009's for the new SDHC reader?

I have a 2009 model Imac and I upgraded from 2gb to 4gb but now after about 20 minutes of the computer being on it will freeze up randomly. It could be 20 mins - 3 hours of use before it freezes up. I did my research and I'm didn't get any RAM my Imac couldn't handle...

I just purchased a set of Mushkin Apple 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 1333MHz SODIMM 9-9-9-24 (976647A) RAM for my mid 2011 27" iMac and everything ran great for a few days. I was able to sleep and wake the machine with no problems. Last night I was doing some graphic intensive work on my machine and when I had finished, the fans were still running high but I was going to bed so I put the machine to sleep. Normally the fans would stop at this point but they kept running. I assumed the machine was still hot so it was just cooling after sleeping. The next morning the machine would not wake. I had to do a hard reset to get it to boot up again I tried resetting the SMC and PRAM but it still doesn't wake from sleep. Am I have issues with my RAM?

I'm considering uprgrading my MacPro from Snow Leapord to Lion, but am concerned about some of the negative reviews I've read.My machine was purchased in 2008 and currently runs OSX 10.6.8, which runs all of my software with no flaws or incompatibilites.I'm a music composer with projects always in rotation.I compose with MOTU's Digital Performer and can't afford a lot of downtime as a result of a "bad" upgrade, hence my apprehension. My machine's specs are below: Model Identifier: [code] If anyone out there has upgraded a machine like mine to Lion with either positive or negative results.
