accidentally put a second cd in and it took it right away .. now it keep trying to eject the thing making such enoying noise .. i cant mannually remove it cause the slit is protected and theres no way i can actually even peek inside the slit ( i would help ). i mean is there any solution to this or ill have to go to the apple store again mat

I have a 2010 iMac that won't start when I press the power button. No chime, no fan running, nothing. I tried unplugging it and plugging it into a different power source which made no difference. I made sure the power cord connections are good. We recently had an 8 hour power outage at my house and this is the first time I tried to power the iMac up since the power outage (it was working fine prior to the power outage). Of note, my husband's iMac started up fine after the power outage.

If not, maybe i'll buy a new iMac.If it supports SATA III then i found the Corsair Force 3 480GB 2.5" SATA III SSD for a reasonable price. Do you recommend that? Does all the SSDs on the market work with mac without problem? I also want to upgrade my 4GB of 1333MHz memory to 8 or 16. There are 2 empty slots right now. i've tried every method mentioned but I can't still eject a stucked cd on my MBP mid 2010. The CD seems to be stucked halfway in, so its not readed by the drive, but it can't also be ejected.
View 4 Replies View RelatedRecently, I got an email from apple about finally being able to download Yosemite beta. I happily did so, and it was working fine, but my dad wasn't happy. I did this with his permission, but he couldn't get iPhoto to work, and was extremely annoyed at the Yosemite beta, so he tried to fix the problem himself. He somehow loaded all the data up into a time machine file on a hard drive, and then booted our mac in disk utility mode, and recoveried drived it and stuff, which in end, he used to downgrade Yosemite to Mavericks. What he didn't realise was that Yosemite and other OS X versions weren't designed to be downgraded, and in fact don't support it. Well, our computers running Mavericks now, and it is going fine apart from one major hitch. Currently, we are able to login (using our designated passwords) however, once logged in, our passwords don't work. This means nothing can be installed or uninstalled or anything etc.
For example, once logged in, we cannot edit settings, as when this pops up, our passwords just get denied when we try and enter them:

I have tried to reinstall Yosemite however, I need a password to do so.
So I recently erased my 2007 iMac through recovery mode. That process went fine. But when I went to go install the latest version of the mac OS (still through recovery mode) it comes back with a window reading basically that process I just did failed. I did this process many times, it doesn't work, and now at the moment I have iMac sitting in recovery mode and I can't do anything on it. Should I bring it into a store?

This problem started like 2 weeks ago, my mouse pointer gets stuck or lags and I have to move it fast to get it back to normal. It is a software issue because I tried with different mouses and the same happens. It always happen and as I said before I have to move it fast around the screen to get it back to normal but after some seconds the same happens. It happens with all kinds of apps and even when I start. It happens when I don't have any app opened and I have no start up apps. It even happens with low cpu apps like chrome or safari, also with word or logic and ableton. It gets really annoying because sometimes I click on the wrong spot. I have Mac mavericks and the computer is an Imac 27 2014. Maybe a formatting of mavericks will fix it?

My intel imac 24" running mac osx 10.5 (i think, most recent one) has become stuck at the grey screen after the apple logo on a restart with the spinning gear going. This happened after restarting after using in windows mode, which I have done many times before. I have tried various things like PRam thing and disconnecting power for a while with no luck. I can start up pressing alt and get into windows mode (which I am in just now). I can startup and press c off the CD in which I have run the disk repair thing that says all is well. I tried repair permissions and it came up with some kind of error ending. I have also tried and archive install which only goes to about 5% and then tells me there is an error with installing certain files in the mac hard drive.

My brand new 15 inch MacBook Pro was working fine for a week. Today the display went to sleep and when I tried to wake it, it remained dark, items barely visible. I could see the display brightness meter changing, but the brightness did not. Restarting didn't help. Called Apple and they're going to replace the computer. Has this happened to anybody else? Note: I have the hi-res anti-glare display.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI have an opportunity to get a Late 2009 27" i7 (2.8 Ghz) for $1699. I've been looking at the $1999 i5 (also 2.8 Ghz). I know it has a 1Gb Video Card, compared to the 512 MB one on the 2009 i7.
My basic question is, is the i7 worth the lesser video card and cheaper price, compared to the i5 with a stronger video card?

This meant I specified a thunderbolt drive (Promise Pegasys R4) thinking the iMac has thunderbolt. I was wrong!! It only has mini display and Firewire 800.I see some thunder bolt to firewire docks are due out soon but is there a product that will allow me to add a thunderbolt interface to the iMac?Something along the lines of a PCI type card or a Firewire 800 to thunderbolt adapter?

I recently got my 3.2ghz mid 2010 21.5' imac. I noticed that its been getting really really hot on the top on the top left and right corners of the computer. Usually i am watching tv series (.avi) files on it using quicktime and vlc and i checked the temps reaching these as follows

are these temps okay? or is htemachine over heating for the activities i am doing, usually i amjust msning, and watching tv series.
I have a question about the iMac core i7 between both year (2009 and 2010) for 2009 is 2.80GHz Core i7 with 1066 Ram. for 2010 is 2.93GHz Core i7 with 1333 Ram. Is the 2010 faster than 2009 a lot?

I do have one concern that SSD is supposedly much faster than a conventional hard drive and although a solid state drive is now pretty pricey, they will come down in price and I suspect become more mainstream over the next couple of years.
Does it make any sense to consider swapping my computer for a late 2010 i7 refurb (+ $200) so that I have an upgrade path to SSD in the future?

I picked mine up yesterday and it seems a little too lose for my liking. It stays in place when it is not touched, but if you push with one finger on the bottom it will switch quite easily.
Is this how they make the hinges now or is mine too loose and should be exhanged? I don't seem to have any problems with dead pixels/yellow screen/noise and would hate to exchange it.
I ha e 2x2gb of 1066 ddr3 ram sitting here. I am going to buy an iMac. I can't decide between the refurb 27 core2duo, the refurb 27 core i5 or the new 21.5" i3. Of course I am torn between cost and performance. I would prefer the bigger display but it's not necessary. If I could use my existing ram in the new 21.5 that may put it as the winner but I am unsure if I can mix 1066 and 1333 ram or not. If not then I will probably get the refurb 27 and then it's just to decide between i5 or core2duo
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have an iPad 32GB WiFi and a MacBook Pro as well so I was trying very hard to justify myself in getting an 11" MBA but ending up talking myself out of it. The 13" MBP is perfect for my uses. It's already lightweight and portable as it is. After playing with the 11" in the Apple store, I was impressed on how light it was. This no doubt blows away any netbook or any notebook in it's weight class in terms of size and performance. However, the MBP's battery life, hard drive space, and processing power OUTWEIGHS the reasons of dumping my 13" MBP for the Air. Also, I have it hooked up to a 21.5 Inch HP monitor at home and it's good enough to use as a main computer at home, and light enough to take on the road.
If I needed to lookup something quickly in bed or around the house, that's where the iPad comes in. If I needed to send a quick e-mail, my HTC Evo is already great at doing that. If I didn't have a 13" MBP or even the iPad, I would have most likely went ahead and purchased the MBA. Just now at this point, spending another $1000+ or getting rid of my MBP doesn't make much sense... yet.
I read a lot about that issue but I found replies about imacs that wont turn on. But my Imac after the problem, turned on one time.
My issue is that my imac was working like a charm. The day before yesterday, at night, i had an automatic update of firefox and after i switched it off normally.
The day after, at morning, I tried to turn it on but it was behaving like it was not attached to the electricity.
I started to read and I found all that solutions so I did the following:
1. Tried other cables (for power supply)
2. Tried other plugs (in different rooms)
3. Put out the ram sticks and cleaned with a blow dryer the sticks and the space inside the imac so the dust goes out.
4. Tried the reset of SMC with no success as it could not be turned on
I tried everything and after I leaved the mac alone, (3-4 hours) and after i just clicked the button and it was on. I left it all night long switched on so that i save my data and I found it on, this morning.
So this morning I did everything to reset the SMC. I put it in sleep mode, restart it, shut it down, put out the cable for 15 sec, put it back, wait 5 sec, but it wont turn on again. I know that there are a lot of responses for the same issue, but I didn't find one that the imac turns on periodically.

Has anyone tried using their mid-2010 imac with hdmi and can confirm if audio (out) works? All the adapters seem to claim audio support with the refresh macbooks but do not mention iMAC. On the Apple store they sell a moshi adapter that lists iMAC support but specifies early-2010 models. Is apple deliberately crippling the new iMACs to *not* allow audio over displayport>HDMI or what is the real story? Some older support threads seem to talk about it working on their 2009 imacs until they upgraded to os 10.6.4. I have tried a few generic cables/adapters but they don't seem to talk audio to my receiver. Anyone had better success?
