The last time my Mac Mail account quit due to the Imap plug-in problem, I realized it was my Icloud was on for mail. I had turned it off. Now I'm having the same Imap plug-in issue. But I can't get to my Internet accounts nor Icloud, since it couldn't load the preference pane. I've done the diagnostic tests before and haven't heard back from Support all summer.

When I click on the iCloud icon in System Preferences window, "Loading iCloud..." is displayed at the top of the window, and the system basically locks up. The color disc is spinning, and I cannot open other applications, force quit anything, or shutdown the system from the menu. I have to physically punch the button, and then restart the system. Â I'm also having a problem with Aperture in which it locks up shortly after it opens, and it is showing "Updating Mobile." I cannot gracefully quit Aperture; I have to Force Quit it from within the Activity Monitor.

I am Having some issues with Safari (I am using 4.0.5), if I open up a website the screen stays white like it normally does for a sec to load a web page but the loading icon keeps spinning and spinning and spinning....... until I click the "X" stop icon and reload the web page. As soon as I click the reload icon the webpage loads up instantly, it is getting really annoying and would be great if anyone has a fix. This doesn't happen all the time, but it does happen frequently and then be fine for a few web pages and then start up again.

Hey guys, i got an old Powerbook that the whole family use to surf the net. I notice its been super slow lately. Ive never had a problem with this notebook, I've only done 2 reinstall in the time ive owned it. I recentluy did another one, and notice its still slow, loading websites is slow, cant watch movies on it. This is a notebook i use to do photoshop and illustrator work on.
Do you think its just its time? I think it could be the hard drive or memory, is there any type of diagnostic i can do to find out what the problem is?

I don't keep my computer on 24/7. Lately, when I start it up, it restarts on it's own. Sometimes, it seems to get through with the initial start up but shuts down & restarts after about a minute. Sometimes, however, it doesn't even finish the boot up process when this happens. This usually will happen over & over again a many times. The only short term solution I've found, is to unplug my computer, then restart it after a minute or so. This has not permanently fixed this problem however, because the next time I shut off, it happens again.

Pssst! Want an Intel 'Nehalem' processor on the cheap? Well, just go and ask the chip giant for one. It's 2.66GHz 'Bloomfield' CPU has been price at just $284, it has been claimed.
That's the batch price, of course. To get it, you'll have to buy a 1000 CPUs at once - boxed Bloomfields will come in slightly higher than that.
As previously reported, the 2.66GHz Bloomfield - Intel's desktop Nehalem - will also be made available in 2.93GHz and 3.2GHz versions. The pricing, posted by Chinese-language site HKEPC, confirms the latter will be an Extreme-branded gaming PC part - it'll cost $999. The mid-range Bloomfield will cost $562.

I was wondering if there is a way to disable the login prompt every time I close and open my MacBook Pro screen? I do not mind the initial login screen, when I just turn on my laptop but having to do this every time my computer goes into screensaver mode or I close the screen is annoying, especially in class. So could anyone help me out on how to avoid and disable this?

I've seen a few threads similar to this, but I haven't been able to find an answer. So, here goes. I have been having ongoing problems with photo stream not syncing all my photos. It's almost as if it has a mind of it's own. A few weeks ago I took three pictures for a friend - two of them appeared on photo stream the last never did. It STILL isn't there. It shows up on my camera roll on my iPhone 4S, but not in the cloud. Today I took EIGHT pics at a park and NOT ONE shows up in photo stream. Below is what I have tried:Â
Turned photo stream off on Mac and then back onÂ
Turned photo stream off on iPhone and back onÂ
Restarted iPhoneÂ
None of these steps have fixed the problem. I thought one of the big selling points of photo stream was that it 'AUTOMATICALLY' syncs all of your pics and pushes them to ALL your devices.  Â
Also should point out - I am aware that photo stream ONLY syncs photos over Wi-Fi - I've been connected to my home wi-fi for about four hours and the pics still aren't syncingÂ

I have changed to iCloud from Mobile Me and iCloud insists that my password or ID is incorrect. It isn't incorrect - so what do I do get some sense out of Mail (because I have and old workhorse that does all the mail, and has a huge library of mail that is preserved). That means that at the moment I can't get or view my mail. I have done as advised - ie set up Mail to go to iCloud using the correct incoming and outgoing servers, but no luck.Summary: Changed to iCloud. Access denied in Mail. I don't expect the full features of iCloud (our other machine can do that if we need it because it has Lion - bu that's not my machine).

I access my iCloud account on Mail on my Mac Air. Last week it just stopped updating without any changes from me. All I have is the little triangle with the exclamation points in them next to the account name. I've tried reentering my account password and changing ports. Nothing. It doesn't even try to retrieve mail when I do so under the Mailbox drop-down menu. It's all very random.Â

From my Mac (OSX 10.7.4, all updates current) the Backup application to iCloud has stopped working.Â
When I look at iCloud in system preferences I see that I have 23.77GB of 25GB available. I edited the Backup schedule, and was able to re-establish a backup with iDisk as the destination. System Preferences says that my iDisk usage is 21.47GB total, 8.37GB used, 13.11GB available. iDisk sync is off.
When I run the backup, it all looks happy for a few seconds, and then I see the message "This plan has never been backed up to this destination". I have never used Back to My Mac.Â
What I want is to be able to automatically backup my Mac to storage on the Internet, for which I (thought) I have paid Apple. What do I need to do in order to get Backup working again?Â

And then open the begger up to find the Serial number, prod a few things, close up, then it starts? Anyone advise what's going on. Could it be it was too cold? My office gets cold? Could it be that I am turning the plug off at the switch when I don't use it and then it sometimes is bad to start up after a few days. Someone be strict with me and tell me what I am doing wrong (should I even be turning it off at the switch once turned off?)

My initial experiences with time machine were not great, glacially slow initial backup rate, left external HDD in unstable state that could not be repaired, stuck on "preparing" etc. The initial backup rate was minutes per Mb-unacceptable. Here are some steps I took, based on watching this and apple support discussion groups--this may not work for all problems being experienced. Turn off time machine Although TM doesn't require exclusive use of an external drive and will use HDs that have other data, you are placing those data at risk: Before you turn on TM backup anything you have on your intended time machine external disk, partition (as GUID) first, then erase (format as HFS extended, journaled) and check/repair permissions. (Don't let time machine format the disk)
- Exclude the external disk from spotlight indexing (or turn off spotlight altogether); certainly do not commence initial backup while spotlight is performing initial index after leopard install
- Turn off any virus checking!
- Remove TM plist file from any previous attempts and erase and trash any previous backup files
- Exclude any large frequently updated database files (Entourage, Parallels) from time machine.
If you have multiple drives that you don't intend including in your routine backup, make sure you exclude them in TM. Avoid daisy chained FW drives for the initial backup, time machine disk should be directly connected. That's about it, Time Machine backed up a ~90G system from a 2.4Ghz SR MBP to a LaCie 500G d2 (FW800) in about 120 minutes and has continued with hourly backups since.
