Dec 31, 2010I just bought Samsung UN46C7000WFXZA. I want to connect my macbook pro to the TV and i got all the cables that i need.
1- HDMI cable
2- Mini DisplayPort to HDMI Female Adapter.
3- this sit that include Audio Cable
[URL] I did connect everything my macbook pro very well to the TV using HDMI cable from the laptop to HDMI/DVI port in the TV. Also I connected the Audio cable from my Headphone port in my laptop to PC/DVI Audio IN in the TV. Yes I got the pic and everything is good but no sound at all. I tried everything and i searched the net but no luck or answer at all.

Jun 11, 2009I have a VGA connection to my monitor from my Macbook currently cause I had a mini-dvi to vga adapter conveniently. But I heard DVI will be better, so I was looking to get another adapter. Should get a Mini-DVI to DVI or Mini-DVI to HDMI? Would that produce the same picture cause they are both digital? I don't plan on connecting to any other diplays or tv's but would one be more versatile than the other? Oh, and I saw that Apple doesn't make a HDMI adapter, is there a reason why not? I saw it on eBay so it made me curious. I've searched this topic, but I didn't see a thread that answered my questions.

Apr 14, 2009i recently purchased hte Mini DisplayPort > HDMI adapter from monoprice. When i plugged it in and turned on the TV the best resolution i got was 1920x1080 (Interlaced) and it looks like crap. The tv is 1080p and when i was using the mdp > vga adapter it worked fine at 1080p. When i tried to go back, (after trying the hdmi) the computer would not display the high resolution anymore.

Dec 1, 2010Is there a DVR with HDMI input or component cable input, but only a one-time fee and can copy encrypted channels (HD or SD) that doesn't use a CableCard.
Elgato products don't do it. TiVo does it but I don't like the monthly fee and they want me to get rid of my Verizon FIOS Box.
What would be even better is a DVR that has a HDMI in and out that connects from my Verizon FiOS HD Cable Box to the DVR then from the DVR into the HDTV.

Jan 26, 2009I have quite an old toshiba 32WLT66 hdtv with my mac mini connected to it through HDMI. I did have it connected with vga and a separate audio cable, which worked out, but I wasn't happy with the picture.
The picture is now great with HDMI and as I'm using it mainly for movies through plex I am putting up with the overscan when using it for occasional web browsing.
My question is what is the best solution for getting audio when using hdmi? I have seen some posts where people have suggested looking at the tv settings to force the tv to accept audio through another source when using hdmi. This doesn't seem to work, or it only (might) work on my first hdmi port (when I connect the mac mini to the 1st hdmi port, the picture is very distorted and doesn't appear correctly - so this option is ruled out).
The other solution I'm aware of is connecting to an external amp and speakers - can't so this as I don't have them.
The second option being a set of USB speakers, I believe this might be my only option, but I would rather have the audio coming through the tv as I don't want the clutter of another set of speakers.
OS X :: Connecting To TV With HDMI Cable?
May 14, 2009I got a DVI-to-HDMI cable from the Apple store, the employee there said it was the best way to connect my Macbook (older model) to an HDTV. As it turns out, HDMI carries both video *and* audio and unless I'm mistaken, my TV doesn't have associated audio jacks for either of its HDMI inputs. Is there a way around this, or is HDMI not a useful way to connect a Mac to a TV?

Nov 8, 2009I try to connect my projector Benq mp625p and MacBookPro(late 2008) via HDMI(adapter + cable). And projector tells me(on the screen): HDMI Out of Range. And, of course, MacOs doesn't see any external monitor. I think it is because, by default, MacOs wants to make mirror on the second screen, but max. projector resolution is XGA(1024x768). How can I turn off mirroring before the second monitor will be connected? But maybe problem isn't in just mirror display.
Additional Info VGA, S-video, Composite connection works great. And HDMI cable with adapter are 100% good(I have tryed them before on two plasma panels). Additional Info I've tried to connect this projector in BootCamp WinXP (on the same MacBook), and first time it didn't work, but when I set: Expand Desktop on the second screen everything began work properly!

Mar 30, 2010I have the 'dreaded' LG L246WP connected to my early 2009 mac pro via DVI to HDMI cable. Settings have always been weird on this configuration because OSX doesn't recognize the 1920x1200 native resolution unless I select 'overscan'. Now with 10.6.3 it boots up fine with the settings I've been using for over a year. However, I let my monitor go to sleep, and when it wakes up the screen is totally off-center to the left.
Also, in the preferences panel for the display, sometimes the available resolutions 'disappear' as I click them...(the value of the item in the list changes from say 1600X1200 to 0x0). I called and opened a support ticket. Their suggestion was to re-install 10.6. This may be the straw that breaks the LG's back.... Problem is now I have to research new monitors!
Mac Mini :: Why Using HDMI-DVI Adapter Instead Of MDP-DVI
Jun 17, 2010I'm surprised that the Mac Mini comes with an HDMI-DVI adapter and not a MiniDisplayPort-DVI adapter. The latter would allow you to use monitors that support all resolutions the Mini can produce, whereas the former is limited to 1920-by-1200. Even if you use a monitor within the bounds of 1920-by-1200 resolution, you would need to get a MDP-DVI adapter to use a TV at the same time.
The ONLY logical reason that exists for Apple to do this is that they will make more money this way.
More people will have to buy the MDP-DVI adapter than the other way around. If people merely want to use a TV, they will have to buy an HDMI cable AND a MDP-DVI adapter, leaving the current adapter sitting in a drawer, whereas if Apple had supplied a MDP-DVI adapter, the person would probably just buy an HDMI cable, and probably not from Apple.
Mac Mini :: How To Get 5.1 Surround Via HDMI
Jul 6, 2010I am a total OSX noob but I was able to search and find that I should go under Applications > Utilities > Audio Midi Setup to configure the output. I set it up for 5.1 surround and tested each of the speakers and they work.
However, if I try to play a DVD movie either directly off the disc or an MKV that I've encoded I always only get sound from my front speakers. I've tried a bunch of different DVDs and MKV files and a bunch of different programs including the built in DVD player, Front Row, Plex, and VLC Player.
I should mention that I am running the HDMI from my Mac Mini directly to my receiver. And like I said, when I tested the speakers under Audio Midi Setup they were working properly. I've even checked the options for the various programs and made adjustments when possible. Still no luck....
Can anyone with the new mini and a similar setup that has had success give me some tips or point me in the right direction?

When I select the Safari window, the TV just shows the grey background same as Mission Control default?

Apr 14, 2012Just hooked up my new Mac Mini to my Pre/Pro through HDMI. when I play music files (2 channel - 48khz) through the HDMI the sound is being delivered at 7.1 channel-96khz. I have tried everything and yet still the same. AppleTV plays same files streamed as 48khz/2 channel.
Is there something I have to set inside the Mac Mini to prohibit this from happening?

Apr 19, 2012i have an iMac and am trying to connect it to my HDMI tv so i can watch films through my tv. iv read about all the mini DVI things but my Imac does not have a mini DVI port as it is relitavley new, it only has 1 ethernet, 2 thunderbolt, 1 firewire and a few USB's. I have a thunderbolt to hdmi adapter which i can plug a HDMI cable in and hook it up to my TV, how do i get the display to come up onto the TV?
My current software is LION if that would affect.

May 11, 2012Today I bought a cable that was supposed to go from the dv port on my MacBook to HDMI, but when I got it home I found it to be a mini dv plug, smaller than the port on my '08 MacBook. Nobody seems to stock cables that fit this larger dv port; I tried Maplin, PC World, Curry's, no luck. An adaptor to VGA, or straight to HDMI, either is fine.

I downloaded a tv series from iTunes last night and took the adapter from the iMac and hooked up the Macbook to the tv to watch the show> Well the show plays on the laptop monitor, but the only thing that shows up on the tv is the wallpaper that comes installed on the Macbook (the galaxy thing).
