Is there a DVR with HDMI input or component cable input, but only a one-time fee and can copy encrypted channels (HD or SD) that doesn't use a CableCard.
Elgato products don't do it. TiVo does it but I don't like the monthly fee and they want me to get rid of my Verizon FIOS Box.
What would be even better is a DVR that has a HDMI in and out that connects from my Verizon FiOS HD Cable Box to the DVR then from the DVR into the HDTV.
Im wondering that ever since that new thunderbolt port has come out on the newest macbook, would connecting an HDMI adapter in the port still work for the newest model?
Recently I've been looking for a way to capture uncompressed HDMI output from a PS3 via my 15" MBP. There are many solutions available, including the Dazzle, the HD PVR and other similar capturing devices, but most of these are limited to standard definition or a high price tag. In doing some research today, I came across a possible solution that I remain skeptical of. It's incredibly cheap and seems to only be missing a software solution.
A company called MOTU develops professional-grade video capturing solutions that are in that special category of price range that require special inquiries. Needless to say, far out of range of a practical solution for a hobbyist. They also sell a product called "HD Express", which is advertised as an HDMI input for an ExpressCard slot that only works with their breakout boxes. That last part doesn't really seem logical if it truly is an HDMI input.
So with a cheap HDMI splitter and an ExpressCard adapter for those of us who opted for the SD card slot on our MBPs, $75 could get you an HDMI input. I guess my question is whether or not this MOTU product is really limited to use with their products or if it would function as a standalone input solution. I know very little of electronics in general, which is why I bought a Mac in the first place.
Have just bought a Macbook to HDTV HDMI connector cable from the Apple store in MK - plugged in to Macbook & connected other end to TV & get great playback picture but no sound!
Hook up a $3K machine to a $1.5K display and have to hard power down your $3K machine to get the picture back. When I boot everything is fine. If I change input to TV or power off the display, when I power back up or switch back to hdmi input screen displays error, can't read signal check output device. I have read on this forum about a issue similar with ATV but not with MacPro. In my google searches I read some issues with Vista, but no resolution... thought to be a ATI driver problem. Does anyone know of a tweak to fix the ATI 2600 XT to remember the tv signal after you change inputs or power off the display?
I receive cable TV at home and I am told that instead of using a TV I can hook my MacBook via a HDMI cable and watch TV that way on my laptop screen. I'd like to do that. Is the information correct? How do I go about it? Can my MacBook do that?
I want to take a part of my screen and use it as a webcam input. Is there a way of doing this (on a mac of course.)? I have googled the hell out of this and found nothing. If you're not really sure what I mean, I want to draw people on chatroulette in Photoshop, live. Anyone have any ideas on how to do this?
how do i plug my guitar into garage band, i mean once i plug my guitar in. how do i switch from my input source from built in microphone when that is the only option under input source?
I just bought Samsung UN46C7000WFXZA. I want to connect my macbook pro to the TV and i got all the cables that i need.
1- HDMI cable 2- Mini DisplayPort to HDMI Female Adapter. 3- this sit that include Audio Cable
[URL] I did connect everything my macbook pro very well to the TV using HDMI cable from the laptop to HDMI/DVI port in the TV. Also I connected the Audio cable from my Headphone port in my laptop to PC/DVI Audio IN in the TV. Yes I got the pic and everything is good but no sound at all. I tried everything and i searched the net but no luck or answer at all.
if i buy the mini display port to dvi adapter, could i use it with a dvi to hdmi cable for my monitor. This is because the dvi and vga ports are already taken up.
So i bought a mini display port to hdmi converter and im running an hdmi to RCA cable from to my tv. I dont really know how to set it up to put out the video. I went into displays and clicked detect displays and nothing showed up and theres nothing but a blue screen on my tv.
While in MS Word and other programs, the dialog box when choosing from the menu is pretty small, with small type. Can these field input boxes be made larger with larger, more readable text?
For example, when I'm doing Find/Replace in MS Word, the input field boxes are very small, even though I have a 20" monitor.
I have an electric guitar plugged into the instrument input of an Apogee Duet recording interface.
If I add a "real instrument" track, then I can select the input channel in the "track info" pane in GB. Works fine, I can hear the guitar. But I can't access the various guitar effects and models.
To do that I create an "electric guitar" track instead. However, when I do that, I don't see any option to select the input channel in the track info pane.
And I don't hear any sound. Apple help just says I should "select the input channel in the track info pane" but I don't see it there, like it is for a "real instrument"...
how to view/use applications and Spaces on my HDTV. I have gotten as far as being able to see my desktop on the TV, but none of the other applications that I have opened.
See above title. i get that there's the "degree(cell)" function, but there has to be an easier way to change the settings so you can just input in degrees rather than radians.
like how calculators have a degrees and radians mode, i find it so hard to believe that there isn't one in numbers. if there really isn't, this is an incredibly flawed program.
I have a VGA connection to my monitor from my Macbook currently cause I had a mini-dvi to vga adapter conveniently. But I heard DVI will be better, so I was looking to get another adapter. Should get a Mini-DVI to DVI or Mini-DVI to HDMI? Would that produce the same picture cause they are both digital? I don't plan on connecting to any other diplays or tv's but would one be more versatile than the other? Oh, and I saw that Apple doesn't make a HDMI adapter, is there a reason why not? I saw it on eBay so it made me curious. I've searched this topic, but I didn't see a thread that answered my questions.
Whenever I start/restart my MP, I am unable to interact with the unit for 2-3 minutes. The mouse pointer will move, but I cannot click on items, nor will the dock icons magnify until 2-3 minutes after. I have done a clean install now and have taken out the 4890. Everything is back to stock but it continues to occur.
Just reading the other post related to 27" input I have a question about connecting a G4 MDD that has a DVI output to a quad i5 or quad i7 iMac.
I need to connect the G4 since my kids have some games that still run in Classic mode and only have enough room for one monitor. Is there a cable that will allow me to use the iMac as a monitor for the G4?
My question is not really pertaining to MP or MBP, but I use both of these computers. I have been on the hunt for the best document holders, I do a lot of looking at the papers and typing it on the computer. After a little bit of research I came across this document holder and it looks cool. Of course, these are a wee bit on the expensive side, but ebay searches came up with these search results: [URL]. Has anybody used these document holders? Even though it is a minor accessory I would love to have your input on this document holder.
i bought a mini dvi to dvi adapter off ebay. when i plug in my dvi desktop monitor it works fine.
when i plug in my dvi to vga adapter, it does not work on either my vga desktop monitor or my tv. is there setting or something i need to change to make this work?
With my PPC G5 the microphones audio is either too low or none existant. I have gone into system preferences and set the input audio to the max with no change. Does the G5 have a special audio input impedance or is there another setting I should investigate? The output analog audio is working 100%.
The analog audio input on my Mac Pro has stopped working.Audio output still OK; USB audio input works fine but nothing from analog audio input.I know it's getting a signal as I can send the mixer output to a Zoom H4n and it records fine, but I need it to go directly into the computer for tutorial voiceovers. I've tried recording in Quicktime Player, Soundtrack Pro, Camtasia and Screenflow.I get no volume indication in the System Preferences>Sound panel.I opened Apple Midi Setup>analog input and I can adjust volume on the two channels but "Master" is stuck at zero.

I am using MacBook Air with OSX Lion. I need to input Chinese characters using the track pad and I have set it up in the Preference > Language.
I called out Pages, started the track pad inputing area. I write on the track pad, it can display the stroke I write on the pad and suggested the characters. Then I choose the charater for input. However, nothing was input to the pages. The curser did not move. If I input using the keyboard, it is OK to input what I type. It just did not respond to the track pad.

I am planning on buying a device that will allow me to convert cassette tapes to mp3 output. The output interface is usb. Can music be input to a Mac through a usb port?
I have a mac mini (solo intel) 10.4 OSX. I have no audio output when attaching an external input source like a CD player or ipod to the input jack on my Mac Mini. Audio output from ITunes or movies clips in IPhoto works fine. I have checked the cables and connections. I have checked the "sound" location in System Preferences to make sure the "built in output" source is selected. The input volume display shows that the audio input is being registered. I have checked "system profiler" in the Utilities folder in Applications to make sure the "built in output" AKA headphone outlet is recognized.
I have the "Soundflower" App. installed but turned off.
why the audio output from the internal sources like ITunes and IPhoto music clips work but the audio output from an external input source does not? Is there some software or a driver required for audio output from an external source that is not required for audio output from an internal source?
Our next to oldest Mac is a 17" flat panel G4 running 10.5.8
We decided to put a Bluetooth / usb dongle on it and paired up Apple's sleek wireless keyboard - works like a charm. The Magic Mouse also works pretty well - I'm not sure if the majority of gestures work on a G4 / 10.5.8
Our Magic Trackpad would pair and perform basic navigation - no gestures to speak of - but would not even scroll.
Any idea why the Magic Mouse is more capable on a G4 / 10.5.8 than the Magic Trackpad? One would think the code for basics would be a no brainer.
We have a lot of sentiment about this "lampshade" Mac - now the least powerful but more hours of use daily as it sits on the breakfast bar in the kitchen - first one running in the morning and last one to sleep at night
