Hardware :: Hooking Up Macbook To HDTV?
Nov 4, 2009
Ok so I am just wondering exactly what cables i need to hook my macbook up to my tv. I have a vizio vw32l and I want to use the vga cable. I know i need to get the mini displayport to vga adapter for my 13 in mb aluminum, but I am unsure of what vga cable to get. Are there different types of vga cables? Which exact one do i need? Also, i need one that is 10 feet long.

I have the original version of the Macbook Air, the one with the micro DVI port not the mini display port. I would like to hook the Macbook Air up to my 50" HDTV. I have the micro DVI-DVI adaptor that came with the Macbook Air. I want to get a DVI to HDMI cable.

I have a Macbook Unibody (late 08) with the mini displayport. I want to hook it up to my Sony Bravia (KDL-40V3000). Since the HDMI ports are all used up, the only ports available are the VGA, and Component.
My questions are pretty basic:
What is my best option to hook it up, giving me the highest resolution (the TV says it does 1920 x 1080). Will both VGA and Component do that?
Also, I do already have the mini displayport to DVI adapter for another monitor I use, so I could get a DVI->VGA adapter I think. But if that's going to degrade the video, or whatnot, I don't mind getting a different adapter for this project.

I was wondering what type of cable I need if I want to hook my Mac Book Pro (the new one, 15" 2.53GHZ) to my new LG HDTV coming in tomorrow, I've never had a HDTV before and I really want to use Netflix streaming to hook up to the TV or DVD Blu Ray player which is a LG too. I couldn't afford the high dollar wireless TV's that do one, but I found a nice 47" one for $999. I just don't want to buy the wrong cord without double checking first.

I have a Macbook and I want to hook it up to my RCA flat screen TV. I have seen people hook up their computers to TVs before so I know it is possible, but I have no idea how to do it. If you could tell me how to do it step by step, I am electronics retarded so I need all the details.

I have an older macbook white (got it summer of 2009) that i want to hook up to a tv. I'm not sure what cord I need because the port is not a dvi one or vga. I've attached a picture of the port (it's the one between the ethernet and firewire). I'd like to hook it up to my tv's vga port or hdmi.

I have the MacBook with the NVIDIA GeForce 9400M. I want to hookup two monitors. I know I have to buy the triplehead2go or the dualhead2go. But does anyone know if it supports 2x 1920x1200 resolution with mini DVI? The mac mini with the same graphics card but with mini display port does support it.

Will I get audio and video from my MacBook on TV by connecting mini DVI to DVI adaptor to DVI to HDMI cable then to HDMI input on back of Sony SXRD TV. I was told I could use the mini display to DVI adaptor but that did not work.

I'm trying to hook a MacBook Pro to an older Sony TV that has an s-video or composite video port available. I prefer the s-video because the quality will be better while playing movies. On my older MacBook Pro I use a DVI to Video adapter that apple produces. With the new MacBook Pro's apple doesn't make a mini displayport to video adapter. What do you recommend I do?

I have an iMac, MBP , and Airport Extreme. The HP printer that I have is hardwired via USB to the iMac. If I understand correctly, I should be able to set up the MBP to wirelessly print to the HP printer via the Airport Extreme. Is that true? Would the iMac have to been on and if so, can it be asleep? I have a couple of Windows computers as well. Can I set up a Windows XP, Vista, or 7 computer to print wirelessly via the Airport Extreme? If the above can be done, does anyone know how to set it up?

I have some tv shows downloaded that I'd like to watch on my HDTV. I currently have a Mini DisplayPort to HDMI Adapter and a 3.5mm male to male audio cable that I plug into the TV and the headphone jack on my MBP.
1. The audio does not work. Is there a setting somewhere I must enable?
2. Would I be better off buying some other sort of cable?
3. What are my options for displaying my MBP screen on the TV and where do I access these options? When I hook up the adapter it just extends my screen to the TV.
Perhaps I need a MBP to TV guide of some sort. I can get this done easily with my old PC but I"d really like to do it with my MBP.

I have connected my MacBook (white - 13"- Late 2009) to my HDTV. I have bought an adapter for the miniport and connected it to an HDMI cable. I have then connected the other end of the HDMI cable into the HDMI port on my TV. I have then tuned the TV into the HDMI port. However the TV icon is not showing on the top toolbar of my Mac.

I am looking for a solution to getting a larger monitor/TV from my 2011 Macbook Pro. I know the airplay software is supposed to launch this summer... but is there a standard cable I can get in the meantime? I do video production with my mac and need a larger display. $1000 is a bit steep for the apple display..so thinking a HDTV would be more versitile anyway..

Basic dumb question. My buddy has both a pc and a mac at work. He has music spread across both of them. What he'd like to do is colelct all his media files and put them on one external hard drive, then be able to connect both his PC and his MBP to the hardrive to access his music.
What would be the best way to do this? Is there something exceedingly simple like a hard drive with two USB outs that could feed both computers at the same time?
