MacBook Air :: How To Connect To A Hdtv
Jul 3, 2012
I tried the Mini Display Port to HDMI and also a VGA cable. Both gave me a look at the cyclone from the desktop but I can't get it to go any further - cursor is not active on the TV.

I am looking for a solution to getting a larger monitor/TV from my 2011 Macbook Pro. I know the airplay software is supposed to launch this summer... but is there a standard cable I can get in the meantime? I do video production with my mac and need a larger display. $1000 is a bit steep for the apple display..so thinking a HDTV would be more versitile anyway..

I have a 2005 iMac G5 with iSight that I would like to connect to my HDTV. I have seen sites that say to get a mini dvi to dvi cable then dvi to HDML to conect to the hdml on the TV. Do I need a separate audio cable for this or does the dvi carry audio too?

I'm trying to connect my MBP to an HDTV with a dvi/hdmi cable. When I plug it in, all I can see on my my HDTV is my MBP wallpaper.
how do I do this, my display options (in the system settings) only has two tabs: display, and color.
No arrangements tab. Does my MBP have to be connected to the TV to have an arrangements option?

I would like to connect my IMAC to my tv. I tried using a home network, but the samsung tv I have does not recognize most of the files, plus the internet apps suck big time.(only netflix is kind of good) So I was then thinking to get a mac mini and just but ay 1000$ it doe snot solve my needs. So I am looking for something to wireless stream the video from my imac to the tv. So it would mini dvi to hdmi - then box with HDMI input to stream to another box with HDMI output connected to my tv. It would also need to stream the audio. Is there anyway to just use the network connection and just hack into the tv?

Getting an "Invalid Format" message from my new HDTV (Vizio xvt553sv) when I connect my mac mini. This is a big deal, because the Mac mini is the front end for all my movies and music, which have been digitized. We watch all of our movies on the HDTV through the Mac Mini. So we are movie-less until I get this working.
My Windows 7 laptop shows on the HDTV fine. My mac mini shows on other monitors fine. Some kind of incompatibility between the Mac and the TV. Anyone run into this and have some suggestions?
I have tried all of the TV manufacturer recommended resolution x timing/Hertz settings on the Mac Mini.
Mac Mini model 1.1. , RAM 1.5GB, snow leopard OS, connecting to TV with DVI to VGA connection. (TV only has VGA, HDMI and Component connection.)

I've got a 2007 generation Mac Mini and a 720p Proscan HDTV with a VGA input. When I hook it up and crank up the Mini, the apple logo appears (on the standard gray startup screen), but when the OS starts to run my TV loses the signal and a message pops up that says "Not Support!" How can I fix this? Better yet, can I fix this? Are they just not compatible? I ordered a DVI to HDMI cable to give that a shot, but I've got a feeling it's not going to work.

I just replaced my HDTV with a new Sony Bravia 32EX500 (Full HD, 1080p). My previous TV (HD Ready, 720p) was linked to my 2008 iMac with a VGA cable (with a mini-DVI to VGA adapter on the Mac end). It worked perfectly fine, but I can't get it to work with the new TV. Could you please tell me what resolution, frequency, and colours I should use to make it work?
Please not that I do not want a HDMI cable. I know it'd be better and easier, but my computer is quite far away from the TV and an HDMI cable of that length would be way too expensive. I'd rather find a way to make it work with the existing VGA cable. I just need to find the right settings for that VGA input. The TV doesn't recognize the signal right now.

The first time I connected to my HDTV using a mini displayport-dvi and a dvi-hdmi adapter, it worked flawlessly. Stupidly, I set my TV to a resolution it couldn't support. Now the screen only turns blue until System Preferences eventually crashes and the TV gets no signal.
I've tried clearing my PRAM, deleting the profile in the colorsync folder, and even deleting /Library/Preferences/com.apple.windowserver.plist out of desperation. I've confirmed that it's not a problem with the adapters by successfully getting another HDTV to work. Where could could OS X be storing the display's settings?

I have a cheap hdtv. when i connect my macbook to it it doesn't get a signal (via mini dvi to hdmi) until i click "detect displays" on my laptop, then "gather windows," then when i set the display to the proper resolution (720) the image appears on my tv without a problem.
I just got a mac mini, and since i don't have two monitors I cannot use this trick. I get no image on my tv.

I have some tv shows downloaded that I'd like to watch on my HDTV. I currently have a Mini DisplayPort to HDMI Adapter and a 3.5mm male to male audio cable that I plug into the TV and the headphone jack on my MBP.
1. The audio does not work. Is there a setting somewhere I must enable?
2. Would I be better off buying some other sort of cable?
3. What are my options for displaying my MBP screen on the TV and where do I access these options? When I hook up the adapter it just extends my screen to the TV.
Perhaps I need a MBP to TV guide of some sort. I can get this done easily with my old PC but I"d really like to do it with my MBP.

I have connected my MacBook (white - 13"- Late 2009) to my HDTV. I have bought an adapter for the miniport and connected it to an HDMI cable. I have then connected the other end of the HDMI cable into the HDMI port on my TV. I have then tuned the TV into the HDMI port. However the TV icon is not showing on the top toolbar of my Mac.

I know i need to get the mini displayport to vga adapter for my 13 in mb aluminum, but I am unsure of what vga cable to get. Are there different types of vga cables? Which exact one do i need? Also, i need one that is 10 feet long.
