Aug 23, 2009I'm looking for desktop speakers like the M-Audio Studiophile AV-20 or the Bose Companion 2. I don't really need huge bass to shake up the walls or anything like that, but decent bass to hear lows would be nice. I am only comparing these two right now, but I am open to anything else as well. I don't want to spend more than $100. The Cnet reviewers recommended the M-Audio AV-20 over the Bose.

Nov 24, 2006transition from PC to Mac soon, but now I have my Creative 5.1 sound speaker system (with 3 lines of output, 1 for rears, front+center and the sub-woofer). The iMac only comes with a single optical audio output (Realtek HD?), I wonder if there is any hub-like device or so that allows me to fuse/connect physically the 3 lines in my 5.1 Creative system so that I will have a single line to transmit sound from my iMac to my set of speakers without compromising the 5.1 environment (6 speakers in full working working potential).

Situation: no sound out from speakers in admin and user account and newly created account. Headphones work, startup chimes work on speakers.
Go to Sound in Preferences and only shows Digital Out for output. Should show Internal Speakers. Ran Diskwarrior and Applejack and zapped pram. Took mac apart and confirmed speakers wired correctly which is verified by the start up chimes being audible on the internal speakers. tested all accounts and created new account all with the same results. Did search of Google and MacRumor. Found one unaswered post indicating same problem. Had same problem with another macbook pro, ran same steps, take apart, confirm wiring setup, Diskwarriored, applejacked and zapped pram and it fixed the problem. I'm not sure what else to try. Did check Audio Midi Setup util and it also did not see the internal speakers.
MacBook Pro :: Random Audio Pops On I5/i7 While Playing Audio Through External Speakers?
Nov 3, 2010Trying to figure out if something is up with mine and a buddies machine specifically or they are all buggered....
Please post if you have an audio pop or click type sound that is intermittent (every few minutes or couple hours) on your i5 or i7 machine while playing audio through external speakers.
If you have it, please describe your situation as it occurs so we can perhaps isolate it:
I.e. Plugged in / on battery, programs running, usb plugged in, etc.
Mine happens whether on battery or not, iTunes, games, movies, Locked in video card...
MacBook Pro :: Finding Recommendations For Powered USB Hub?
Jul 31, 2009I've been trying to find a good, solid powered-USB hub to use with my Macbook Pro. I tried the Belkin 7-port, which had good reviews, but it just stopped working after 2 weeks, and it was never powering self-powered USB hard drives properly (even though it was supposed to).
So I'd like some recommendations for a good USB hub that has sufficient power to use with self-powered USB hard drives and that won't slow down or stop working when i connect too many devices.

Jul 7, 2010 I have a brand new, 15' macbook pro. I have noticed that the computer only has two USB hubs, but I need to plug in multiple peripherals, such as a mouse, flashdrive, printer, external hard drive, etc.
I recently bought an unpowered four-port USB hub. I am guessing that the power to the USB ports is limited, and so I should only run devices with low power requirements off of it. What are the power requirements of various USB devices? I know this seems like a simple question, but I cannot find a list on the internet.

Aug 28, 2010I had audio coming out my external speakers.
Then I fiddled with both Soundflower and Audacity for some audio recording.
I have since then uninstalled both but I can't for the life of me figure out how to get audio coming out my external speakers again.
Everything is coming thru my imac speakers.
Apple>Sys Pref> Sound> give me no options to direct audio to external speakers.

Dec 13, 2008I have a new aluminium 2.53 MBP and have installed vista 64 ultimate on it via bootcamp.
I have noticed that I am having problems with the audio, there is no audio from the internal speakers at all and when ever I boot up in vista the audio jack has a red light coming out of it...This only occurs in bootcamp and if i go back to OSX the problem disappears
I have installed the latest driver from realtek and have tried to fiddle with the audio jack using cotton buds etc, but nothing seem to work... are there any other ways from rectifying this?

Nov 10, 2009This is the second time an update has done this to me (Early 2008 Mac Pro). Run the update (10.6.2) - reboot - "sound effects" and "output" changed from "line out" to "internal speakers". What's up with that? Not a big deal - but kind of a pita when I get a call at work from a family member asking why iTunes is playing from the internal speaker...

OS X :: ITunes Output To Built In Speakers And Usb Audio?
Dec 24, 2009I am streaming iTunes to another room using an Audioengine AW1 (over usb, not the analog input) and it works fine. Looking at JACK audio, Soundflower or Apple's AudioMIDI utility, I feel I should be able to use one or a combination of these resources to output iTunes to both the AW1 and my desktop's headphone port. Unfortunately, I can't seem to perform both. Well, technically I can in using a "y" audio cable to output from the Mac headphone port to headphones and to the analog-in on the AW1's, but that really doesn't work adequately. The output volumes are considerably lower and tied together. I am looking to figure out how to add a usb audio device as another, and simultaneous output.

I don't want to mute it and be able to raise the volume and it'll start working again; I want there to be no possibility of sound unless I go back and fix what I changed. Sep 26, 2007Just got my 15 LED SR Macbook Pro. When I plug my bose speakers in at my desk and listen to itunes, I am getting a static pop sound. Should I take it back or is it fixable? By the way, LG panel and no yellow 1/3 of screen. Initially thought it was yellow, but I calibrated it, and now it only looks yellow if viewed from the side. Head on, white. One thing I have noticed, when I watch movies on it in the dark with the brightness turned down (cause this thing is a torch), I am getting quick flashes when a screen has high contrast light and dark. I am very sensative to LCD flat panel TVs that use a colorwheel. Like a JVC dilila, I see rainbows! Is that normal for an led flat panel to see "quick white flashes of light"?

Oct 22, 2007I'm connecting my mbp to my new lcd sony bravia via dvi to hdmi lead and then connecting the sound via headphone jack to tv's 2 x phono, however i'm getting lots of audio noise bleeding through tv speakers underneath the main audio feed, i'm certain that its not a dodgy lead as iv'e tried 3 of them, however if i unplug the dvi lead the noise goes away, is it possible that the hdmi input is conflicting with the phono connection somehow.

Mac Mini :: Can't Select Audio Output If Using ACD And Speakers
Mar 25, 2010i'm using my mac mini with the ACD 24" and i get the sound from the screen because it is "very slightly bettter" than the speaker of the mac mini (even if both are quite disappointing)
when i connected external speakers on the jack of the mini, it is simply impossible even with the soft soundsource to switch audio outputs on the fly
external speakers seem to have the priority over other outputs
is there a way to get through it ?
MacBook Pro :: After Speakers Plugged In / Audio Dies
May 28, 2010This only happens occasionally, but sometimes when I have my speakers plugged into my 2010 macbook pro, the sound just dies. If I unplug the speakers the sound comes through the built in speakers, but the only way for me to get the jack to work again is by restarting my computer.
Has anyone else experienced this? Is it a hardware or a software issue?
Mac Pro :: Audio Automatically Going To Monitor Speakers On Startup
Feb 27, 2012I have an early 2008 Mac Pro, been running Lion since December. Until last week had no problems. There have been no changes made to the computer, no software added or removed. All of a sudden, when I turn the computer on, audio automatically goes to the speakers on my 24" Cinema Display. When I go into System Preferences I can easily switch it back to my speakers, but it defaults my speakers to full volume, and just to turn the volume down fills the entire house with the 'Apple volume change' sound, until I get it to a reasonable level. So while I have this backwards fix for it, I kind of resent that I have to do all that before I can even get to work on the computer. I tried deleting the plists in Macintosh HD < Library < Preferences < Audio, but when I restart they're back where they were and the audio's going straight to the display again.

Power Mac G5 :: Digital Audio In To Line Out Speakers All Noise?
Nov 5, 2007I am trying to hook up the digital audio output on my cable box to the digital in on my dual 2.0 G5 running 10.4.9, 1 gig RAM. I have HDMI and component video out to monitor, but I use JBL creature speakers and sub for audio.
I have the propper cables and routing, sounds prefs set to digital in, and line out, to go to JBL creatures and first I get no sound at all. If I start AudioHijack and use same input and output settings all I can get is a hissing/clicking sort of sound. Same with using Soundsource and LineIn.
Audio MIDI Setup only shows or giveds me Built-in Audio for selections under system settings and properties for. Ausio Input and output show Master stream grayed out and I selected digital in and Line out for my sources and no change. Both ar set to 441000.0 Hz 2ch-24bit as well.

Windows On Mac :: WinVista 32bit - Audio Won't Play Out Of Speakers?
Sep 25, 2010I have Bootcamp 3.1 and Windows Vista Home 32bit is fully up to date.
The audio on my Mac Pro 2008 will play out of the front speaker but will not through my Klipsch 2.1 system. I checked and rechecked to make sure I have the audio cord plugged into Audio Out on the back of the Mac. When using OSX the audio plays just fine through my 2.1 system.
Any ideas on what I can do to troubleshoot the issue?

Jun 14, 2009I'm a recent PC to iMac convert and have hooked up my iMac to my TV receiver (DVI to HDMI connector and a Toslink cable to the audio). The issue is as soon as I plug in the audio connector the iMac speakers stop working. I'd like to leave the connector plugged in and still be able to use the iMac speakers. Of course when I play a movie on the TV I'd just mute the iMac speakers.

Jun 24, 2010I currently use the Logitech Z-5500 Digital 5.1 Speaker System in my home office, which by all accounts is a pretty high-end system (maybe not for a true audiophile, but for an average joe like me they're great). I am trying to figure out what the best way would be to share a single input on this speaker system between two computers (a Mac Pro and an iMac).
I am currently using a basic headphone splitter with two standard 3.5mm male-to-male stereo cables to perform the task, and for the most part it works just fine with one minor issue that is likely to prevent me from keeping things setup like this. There is a subtle, yet clearly audible humming noise coming out of the speakers.
MacBook Pro :: Damaged Audio Jack - Will Usb Speakers Work
Jun 24, 2010I have a Macbook Pro and something happened to the audio jack recently. Not sure what but I have a 3 year old and pc husband at home. Basically the inside of the jack went from being an inny - where you can plug in an audio plug, to an outie - where you can only insert about half of your plug and it won't go in any further. When I go into Sound settings - Output it says the selected device has no controls, and the speaker icon on my status bar is greyed out. I brought it in and they said they would need to replace the logic board in order to fix the jack - $1,000.... yikes.
So long story short I am wondering if it is just the audio jack then could I buy usb speakers and use those instead? Any work around at all? I wish there were a way to just tell the computer to ignore anything the audio jack was telling it, but I was told that is not an option either.
