Hardware :: Finding BluRay Stuff
Nov 15, 2010I'm looking at the latest range of Macs and I was thinking with their huge, high-quality screens they'd surely handle HD really well and be a great way to watch Blu-Ray stuff.

View 9 RepliesHere's a BluRay drive by Panasonic that I found today that fits the 17" MacBook Pro. Looks nice, fully backwards compatible with SuperDrive, trusted manufacturer, and a halfway decent price.

Is it bad for Macs to leave them on a long time when you're not using it?
My nephew once told me he puts his PC off when he goes to school for example, because it would be better for his pc.
Does this count for...
- My PowerBook, running on cable (not battery, whatever)?
- My (to buy) 24'' iMac?
Reason is I sometimes want to leave my stuff on to upload or download stuff...
I know the Mac Pro uses a smaller bezel for their tray loaders, so would regular retail drive work? I know I can remove the bezel, but if I don't have to I won't.I'm looking at the Pioneer 8x burner right now.

I am having difficulty removing the front bezel on my new 8X LG BD Burner. There seem to be 3 brackets holding onto it. Any ideas on how to get it off?

(Sorta run-on sentence there.lol) You certainly don't wanna miss not watching Blu-ray movies on a 27" iMac!

Where do we stand on that whole issue, Mac OSX is still not HDCP compatible, software and hardware wise?
I have add a pc for HTPC for more than 2 years, and I have always been able to play bluray on it... I am thinking of switching to mac to do that... either putting the mac pro close enough to the TV or buying a mac mini to do the job...
I already own a bluray player... thinking of buying an external USB case 5.25" or maybe e-stata and to use it that way to play blurays... (hollywood blurays...)
I was wondering would it be possible to install a bluray burner into the unibody macbook?I id search , but only came up with an answer about an older Macbook Pro 17".
View 24 Replies View RelatedThis is not related to the other bluray thread on here. I am looking for a slot loading Blu Ray drive (I do not want write capability) for my iMac Aluminum. I know fastmac sell a Bluray drive for $999, but that has the unnecessary write capability which jacks up the price. So, does anyone know where to get a slot loading BD-ROM for the iMac?
View 11 Replies View RelatedSo I have been trying to convert my Blu-Rays using a combination of MakeMKV and Handbrake, so I have been able to get the MKV and am able to play them, but once I do the handbrake, and it runs through fine, I get an error when I try to play the m4v file. It says "The document _____ could not be opened. The movie is not in a format the Quicktime Player understands."
View 1 Replies View RelatedI got an idea from wanting to upgrade my iMac hard drive from 1TB to 2TB. So I thought shouldn't the iMac optical drive be upgradable as well? I looked on eBay and there were a few Bluray internal drives for sale like this one [URL:...] The only thing I'm sceptical from buying one is that (1) will the iMac require a driver or will it recognise the drive, and (2) will a standard programme like VLC be able to play BD media? Looks like a good idea to put the iMac's screen to good use. Sorry Apple I'm not going to be downloading HD movies. My internet is not uncapped.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a Digistor external BluRay burner to use with MakeMKV to rip BluRays to my Mac. Here's a link to the model info:[URL:...] It has worked fine with my iMac (2.8GHz Core Duo) except that, on occasion, it would fail to eject the disk. When this happened, I simply pulled the USB connection from the back of the drive (I use the dual-USB connection to maintain battery life after the single-USB connection failed to keep the battery charged), reconnected the cable and hit the eject button on the drive. No problems, just a minor effort to work around. However, now that I have upgraded to an i7 2.93GHz iMac, the same procedure as above will crash my Mac. The moment I reconnect the USB cable, the iMac goes black and won't restart. Instant death, no warning. It won't restart with the external drive connected, either after a crash as described, or even after a normal reboot or cold power up. The only way I can use the drive, is to boot the Mac with the USB cables disconnected from the Mac, and then connect the drive to the Mac after bootup. The "old" iMac was fully up-to-date, running Snow Leopard. There is no outward difference in the operating systems of either machine, yet this happens only on the new model.

View 1 Replies View Relatedi finally did it and bought a new MBP...now is there an easy way to transfer my itunes, photos and movies to the new computer? I would like to keep everything on the old machine for now and just copy them over...
View 3 Replies View RelatedI ran into a huge problem today, it seems, and I'm hoping someone here can offer some help. Just for starters, I have a 13" MBP with Snow Leopard. So I tried logging onto my account just now, but accidentally clicked the guest one. In order to somehow undo that, I stupidly hit esc and then command+z repeatedly a few times. It brought me back to the login page, where I logged into my account, but when I did ALL OF MY STUFF was gone--files, pictures, music, folders, documents, etc.--and it was back to all the default settings. I looked through all the folders and everything is GONE. I tried restarting with no luck. I logged into the guest account too and that's also default (as per usual though). Does anyone have any idea how I managed this? Is there a way to fix it and get my stuff back? I'm freaking out because everything I ever needed is (was?) on my mac.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI am still using Tiger. Down to about 15% (17 of 104GB) free space on hard drive and looking to unload unnecessary stuff. /Library/Printers (3GB): I assume I can safely get rid of everything related to printers I do not use.... /Library/Audio/Apple Loops (3GB): of stuff for GarageBand and iLife, which I never use... /Library/Application Support: another 3GB of stuff for GarageBand and iLife... (in fact, can I simply Spotlight for GarageBand and iLife and remove almost everything associated?) Any reasons I should not delete the above? Anything else I should consider deleting? (The big hog is Parallels, but I use that daily). I have pared Documents to the essentials.
View 1 Replies View RelatedLooking to replace the 5400rpm drive with a new 7200rpm drive, but what is the best way to move all my stuff over? Should I clone the drive or is it better to do a fresh install and go through the hassle of reinstalling all my stuff?
View 4 Replies View RelatedMy 2007 MBP won't boot up, or at least the screen won't turn on. The genius diagnosed it as an issue with the logic board. I'm not quite two months out of warranty, so it's $310 to fix -- but I spilled water on it three years ago, and if damage is detected, my repair options start to get pretty pricey. I'm now the proud owner of the base-model 13" MBP, which is great, though it hasn't been 24 hours yet. I'm still planning to send the old MBP out to attempt the $310 repair, and we'll keep it as a backup if they'll fix it. However, I'd really like to get my data off the hard drive before I ship it out. I keep hoping it will magically boot up -- it's come back to life a couple of times since I started having this problem -- but I can't expect it to.
What is the easiest way to get my info off the hard drive so I can load everything onto my new MBP? I don't want to do anything more that would give Apple reason to say they can't do the repair. I know I should've backed up, but I didn't, and I can assure you I've learned my lesson ... the hard way.
all these languages and stuff that takes up so much room that is unneeded. How do you delete these things to free up some space. Is this a major ordeal or just a quick file delete kind of thing.
