I have an Epson stylus photo 870 hooked up to a print server and it works just fine under Tiger, with the Gimp driver. I got my son a new Macbook with leopard and after downloading the gutenprint drivers, and setting up the printer the operation fails after printing 100% saying that the printer is busy, and then keeps retrying. Is it possible to get the driver from tiger to work in leopard, and if so how?

I have recently upgraded from Snow Leopard to Mavericks and am now having problem with my hp 4500 office jet printer. The print icon tends to stay on the dock after the print job is done and then mess up the print queue. Even worse if I forget to cancel it manually then when I put the computer on 'sleep' the printer starts up again and the whole job is rerun unless I get to cancel it quickly on the printer!
It does not always do this (the print icon disappearing as it should do), but for 90% of the time it does.
Is there a way to force Safari to print what I see on a webpage, and not default to the print style? I'm trying to print a graphically-rich site and the print.css doesn't cut it, making everything look like trash (unformatted text, etc.).

I'm trying to print an Excel 2004 .xls spreadsheet file where I'm using to record attendance for the class I teach.I have my main Column A with Rows A-X and it shows up fine, I imagine because there is content in the boxes.
But I also have Columns B-L and rows A-X with nothing in their cells, but when I print it, they won't print.I need these blank because I'll check them off if the child in the first column attended the lesson. How do I make it so my many blank cells will print as well?
I have had difficulty in attaching my HP Photosmart C5580 printer to my new MacBookPro (OSX 10.6) through my Netgear WGPS606 print server. After much searching I found previous posts here which advised me to add the Gutenprint driver 5.2.6 which I did. That finally DID successfully attach the printer through the server.
However, there is a lag of many seconds (sometimes minutes) between the SEND command and the starting of the printer. Is this the new normal that I need to expect or is there a fix?

I tried creating the printer at the Add Printer dialog, but it would neither let me specify an HTTP URL (as far as I know, I had to use the IP icon on the toolbar) nor specify "RAW". So I tried creating a "dummy" printer in the Add Printer dialog, with a basic config, and then changing it from the CUPS web GUI. This didn't work either, since when I went back to the Add Printer dialog, the printer was gone.

I'm using a MacBook, Mac OS 10.5.8. I've downloaded the driver for HP LaserJet m1319f MFP and the printer worked fine when I connect it directly to my MacBook (using USB connection).The problem is that printer is supposed to be connected to our office network users through a TP-Link Print Server (TL-PS110U). I've tried to use AppleTalk to connect to that print server but my MacBook only recognized that HP printer as a HP Fax machine and I can't print anything.

i'm trying to print some stuff off using adobe and some parts are printing, but some aren't. I've had this problem before i would print of some formula sheets for my finance class and basically if it wasn't a letter it wouldn't print it off but now it's taking out a lot more.

I've been getting the "error -36" "operation could not be completed because file "" could not be read or written when trying to backup one external firewire drive to another drive (either another external firewire, or my internal startup drive). After the error, the copy operation will hang and be impossible to cancel, forcing a find relaunch about 50% of the time.
-Disk Utility finds no problems with the disk
-The filenames do not contain illegal characters
-If I try enough times the problem file(s) will eventually copy, but then another file will become the problem, suggesting that the file itself is NOT actually corrupted. After successful copy, the file (an MP3) plays just fine. Subsequently, I will have trouble copying that same file again.
There are no strange noises from the HD and I can feel the vibrations from it spinning as normal. My guess is that the HD is on its last legs and is acting flaky but that the data is still OK. What can I do to rescue the data before the damn thing dies completely? Now before anyone jumps on me to UTFSE, I have searched extensively, but havent found anything that addresses my specific situation (especially the part about the files being randomly OK and not OK.
I've done a complete re-installation af Snow Leopard.
When trying to restore the library/mail folder via Time Machine i'm told: "The operation cannot be completed because you do not have sufficient privileges for "mail'" I seems to me that i have both privileges to read and write in the folder. I can't place the backed up files in a different folder either?
I have no problems restoring my pictures and the likes from time machine?

In the current FCP-X, I see in the Background Tasks window how to CANCEL a sharing operation (in this case exporting out to a Master File), but can't figure out how to simply PAUSE it, so I can begin another Master File export from a different Project, one that's suddenly become much more Time-Urgent and needs to happen ASAP.
I'd prefer not to lose the 2-3 hours of heavy pixel-lifting FinalCut's already put in to the first export, but it looks like that's what I'll now have to do in order to start this new more important one, and make sure it gets full priority in terms of system resources -- unless find any way to put one Share task on hold while a new one gets all the attention until it's done.

I have mac os 10.4.11. I have a zipped file (final cut pro) that i am trying to open and when I try to open it i get a "unable to unarchive (error 1 - operation not permitted)" message. I followed the guidelines from the old thread for the other personIi repaired permissions but when I tried to download onyx it told me the the onyx version needs a higher OS (10.5 I beleive) than I have and other efforts to find the onyx for my mac have failed. View 2 Replies View RelatedSo a few weeks ago, I copied my entire music library (97.5gb) onto my external hard drive (Mac OS X Extended, Journaled) to save space on my boot drive. Since then, I've been able to update my iPod, receiving the message "Attempting to copy to the disk <iPod name> failed. The disk could not be read from or written to".
I formatted my iPod to see if that was the problem, but it still won't copy. So, in order to right that situation, I tried to copy all my music back to my regular HD, but now am receiving the Finder Error code -36 "The Finder cannot complete the operation because some of the data in (name of file) could not be read or written." I can't format the external drive either because then I would lose all of my music.
Is this safe to do .... connecting 2 macs using firewire while both of them operating
