Hardware :: Getting XP Connected To Airport Network?
Jan 19, 2010I'm trying to use my work laptop at home. I can get it to connect to my Airport network, but it can't see the internet. I'm using WPA for authentication on the Airport.

View 5 RepliesI have an Airport Extreme, with two USB hard drives connected to it. The Airport Extreme shares these disks to my wireless network via Airport Disks.
Upstairs I have an Airport Express, that wirelessly connects to my Airport Extreme downstairs, and extends the wireless network so I get a good wireless reception upstairs.
My problem is, that it does not seem like me Airport Express does a good job of forwarding my 2 USB Airport Disks to the extended wireless network upstairs.
For example, when I use the AirVideo iPhone app to stream video from my USB Airport Disks I get a server connection error when I go upstairs and the iPad/iPhone switches to the Airport Express networks. I cannot reconnect as long as it is on the Airport Express network. If I turn the airport Express off, and thus switch to the poor wireless reception from the Airport Extreme, I can connect to the USB Airport disks again.
The Airport Express is connected to the Airport Extreme in bridged mode.
Question: Can a wireless printer 'join' an Airport Express Network? The printer in question is not near my router, can the printer join the network wirelessly so that I can print w/o a USB connection?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI've recently come back to apple mac's, however before my new G4 ibook, i had a few pc's set up on a network, i've still got them and i want to add my ibook to the network, i've got most of it working, however my laserjet 4M plus which has a print server installed in it, which works perfectly with the pc's doesn't want to work with my new ibook. My ibook is connected via airport to a linksys access point, and that to the router, which in the connected to the laserjet. I can Ping the router and it all seems fine, but getting it to print just isn't happening.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI recently moved and am connecting my iMac (2006 Intel) via the internal Airport card to a high-speed cable network here at home.
For some reason, my connection started off fine but after a few hours (sometime minutes) of browsing the web, the connection will slow to a crawl or just stop completly.
I've tried changing the DNS settings, turning Airport off/on, re-booting the wireless router (it's a Netgear) all to no avail.
The connection will seem to be okay and then...back to the molasses slow or no connection at all. At my previous residence, I was connecting the same way without any issues.
As an aside, there are 2 iPads, 2 iPhones and a MacBook Air all connecting to the same network without any issues whatsoever.

I have Alltel Mobile Broadband. Up until the other day, it's been working fine. I'd set up a network on my macbook after connecting to the Alltel network, then I'd enable internet sharing. Then my iPod Touch, iPad, etc would all be able to go online.
The past couple days, however, the connection just won't share.Anyone have any idea what could be doing this and how to fix it?
I have a slow network issue. I'll try to make it as simple as possible.
1 MacBook Pro
1 Airport Extreme
1 Airport Express to Extend the Network
The network to my living room was slow, so I added the Express to extend the network. When connected through the Express, with a Time Machine backup, I'm getting about 500K/sec transfer speeds. When I move the laptop away from the Express and close to the Extreme, the network works much faster, about 5MB/sec. I don't understand why the network is so much slower when using the Airport Express as a network extender. Is the speed difference normally that much? If it's not supposed to be, is there anything I can do?
Here is my situation. I am a network newbie. I bought a Airport Extreme (2008 model without dual band & guest networking) and have it setup with my ADSL broadband modem. I bought it so I could use the high speed N to connect to my Apple TV. It replaced a Linksys WRT54G.
My concern is this. We have another laptop in the house which only has Wireless G. It is connected most of the time to our network, so I presume that it will be slowing the speed of my Extreme to G levels.
Can I connect my old Linksys G router somehow to my network to create a seperate Wireless G network to access the internet. The older laptop can be at G speeds and my Extreme network remaining at N speeds ?
Maybe an easier option is to buy a N USB adaptor for my laptop but I don't want to buy something if I can use my current equipment.
The problem is the following: I am trying to connect to a network which has an accent sign: Arra . In boot camp, in windows I can perfectly connect to the network. In OS X it doesnt show up at all! I tried typing the network manually etc, but it doesnt work.
one of the coffee shops that i frequent has wifi, and recently i haven't been able to get online. it says i am connected to the network will full strength, but am not connected to the internet. i even bought my ipod touch tonight to check, and it worked just fine. everyone around me is surfing as usual... why am i experiencing this? it's been this way for a few weeks now. did they somehow block me from connecting?

View 2 Replies View RelatedSo my Mac Pro is connected to the internet via an ethernet cable that is hooked up to my Powerbook G4 that has internet sharing enabled. The Powerbook G4 is connected to the internet via Airport. My main iTunes library is on my Mac Pro. I own an Apple TV and would like to be able to access the iTunes library from my Apple TV. My issue is, since the Mac Pro is connected via internet sharing, it seems like it doesn't get included as part of the network. It is connected to the internet, does everything perfectly fine. But searching for it from my Apple TV or from my iPhone remote app, it seems like it's not "part of the network." Anyway to make it included in the network when it's connected via internet sharing?
View 3 Replies View RelatedSo I have a network running a Linksys B&G WRT54G router on a ComCast Cable internet connection. I have an iBook G4 (2005) and a B/W G3/400 connected to it. The iBook is using the built-in Airport Extreme and the G3 is using a valid Belkin PCI card (model: FD57000) 802.11G card. So the G3 is just chillin' downloading torrents and what not, but I noticed the speeds aren't that great and my iBook is slowed waaay down on just basic web browsing. I reboot the G3 and all of a sudden the iBook speeds way up. Once the G3 is back online everything is slow again. I've tried many settings and still am not satisfied yet (using the iBook on the same torrents as the G3 the speeds are insanely higher).
View 4 Replies View RelatedWhat might be the reason for this? I had to look up my IP address and configure it manually, so I got it to display as "connected," but there is still no internet when I turn off airport.
View 4 Replies View RelatedThe computer and internet works good when is not connected to my tv. Last weeks, I bought a mini DVI to DVI adapter and then a DVI TO HDMI Adapter, so the problems is when I connect it to the tv. The network doesn't work anymore. Sometimes do but must of the time doesnt work. I just tried openDNS but still the same.

I have a weird problem when i try to connect to the internet with my MBP. I run on Lion (10.7.4) and it the problem appeared a few days ago, internet was working before. So here's the deal : Airport is working fine, and when I check my network settings and ask for a diagnostic, the assistant tells me i AM connected to the internet and claims it works alright. But when I open Safari or Chrome, I can't go on any site, because each time it says the operation timed out. My family has others computers connected to the same modem and they all have a working connection.
I tried entering manually the address to check if it was a simple DNS problem but it isn't. I tried restarting the modem and my computer, turning Airport on and off, deleting all the network datas my computer had saved to set up this network as a new one, adding a new location, renewing the DHCP lease.

View 3 Replies View RelatedOk so I've had my new iMac for a week now, all is great except the internet. Its connected wirelessly, but either goes really slow or websites just say loading. All the PC's in the house work fine.
Airport is connected - however even though it is connected is always searching for networks?
The Safari is slow and sometimes doesn't work at all. However always works upon a quick computer restart.
I wonder whether I've changed a setting by accident, or is wireless just not very good on macs?
I'm having problems with my connection to the internet. Either in Snow Leopard or in Windows (Bootcamp), sometimes it says that I'm connected, but I have no internet access.
Most of the time everything works as normal, but at least 4-5 times a day the problem presents and I can't access any webpage, tho it do says I'm connected to my Airport Extreme.
Same thing happens with my iPod, at the same moment. So it must be something with the AE, but I'm completely lost as to what it is.
I'm about to pull my hair out...
I'm looking for a network camera which can be connected directly to a modem.
A camera which can be controlled (pan/tilt) and viewed through a browser or on an iPad/iPhone. Preferably nightvision, motiondetection and auto upload to a ftp server upon detection.
I noticed 99% of the cameras don't support mac!?
I'm hoping to spend around $400, don't know if this is realistic.
Can anyone recommend a good camera and software to get the job done?
I'm connected via Airport to my company's wireless network. Last week I was able to connect to this network via my Macbook. Went home this weekend, come back and now I can connect and browse the internet, but I can't view the "Shared" folder with other people's public folders and shared files.

I have an airport extreme that was passed down to me when my aunt bought a time capsule. It has worked perfectly for nearly a year. I was out of town for a few weeks and came back to the amber blinking light. I use a cable modem to connect to the internet and a direct connection to my macbook pro works fine. I figured out how to use airport utility and i thought the errors were fixed, as the light is green now....but my laptop (or ipod touch) will not connect to the internet wirelessly.

Airport connects to the network and even assigns an IP address properly, but the safari or firefox doesn't open any websites.
I tried manually assigning IP address but didn't work either. I am not very good at solving problems with Macs so any help is welcome. sometimes it is a bit difficult to assign the IP address, but it does end up assigning one.
