I bought a Canon LBP3000 laser printer and I was told it would work on my iMac but it seems that this printer only works with a Japanese OS X and not on an English system. Does anybody have a driver for an English OS X?
View 1 RepliesCanon advertises this printer as having ONLY Windows drivers, however there is a solution if you are interested in buying the printer (I bought one for around AUD150, delivered in Melbourne). As reported in Macosxhints here there is an OSX driver for the Canon LBP3000. Go to the linked Canon page (which is in Japanese) then scroll to near the bottom of the page for links to the driver (MXCAPT160). Download that and install it. Edit: The printer dialogue (when you attach it) is then in English. It doesn't offer all the options available in Windows (mainly output quality & economy modes) but is fine for straightforward printing to A4, letter, legal, A5, A6 and a couple of Japanese envelope sizes (Yougata-4 approximates DL).

I have always had HP, but I have grown tired of their driver issues, etc. I have never had any Canon computer products before, but they have 2 new models that look appealing to me.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI'm trying decide between a Canon or Brother color laser multifunction printer. Quite honestly we don't do a lot of color printing, but I'm so tired of clogged inkjets (can you say Epson) that I'm trying to stay clear of them. A multifunction inkjet would seem appropriate for our situation, but I don't want to have clean printheads once a month. Even if we do get a mutlfunctional laser I still need a a small photoprinter for quick photos prints. My other option is a multifunctional inkjet and then a B&W laser printer. I'm down to Canon and Brother based on the fact both seem to work well with Macs and don't have the bloated software that comes with HP. I can't find any reviews on the Canon lasers since they are relatively new. The Brother machines seem to get good reviews, but quite a few complain about the color prints.

I uninstalled and reinstalled the Mac CAPT Ve r340 driver from Canon's website, no improvement. The printer works fine with my Windows laptop. I found an option to remove all printers from the Print preferences section. I can't remember how I did this, but all printers were removed. I reinstalled the above driver, but now in the 'print & scan' - 'add printer' section, I have no printer options. And no idea how to get printer options.

I have installed the Canon MP380 printer driver for my new imac but I cannot find it listed under the Canon model name in Printer Setup. All I see are "gimp beta" this or that. When I try to print the text is too small. It's not filling up the standard size piece of paper I am printing on. What am I doing wrong here??? This is very confusing.

My Canon MF8380 had been working fine with my MacBook Pro (printing wirelessly), and all of a sudden today I am getting an error that says: "Canon CMFP Printer Driver: Printer is not responding. Check the printer power and connection, and then try sending printing job again."
I have tried the basics - turning off and on the printer, rebooting the MacBook Pro, printing from different applications, making sure Job Accounting is not checked in setup, seeing that the driver seems like it's acknowledged, checking and unchecking sharing prefs.

I would like to use a perfectly good Canon Pixma ip4200 printer with OSX Mountain Lion 10.8.5 and Yosemite 10.10.1 on my 2013 model iMac but Canon say they do not do a driver for these more recent versions of OSX later than 10.7. Is there any way to get this to work?

I have a G4 still running on 9.2 but I need a very basic laser printer to go with it.
Many printers on the market now specify the requirement as OSX , but how true is this. If the input is via USB2 will they not accept input from any mac with USB2 outlets?
I don't print very often, and I'm sick and tired of ink drying up in the print head, ink ending up on the rollers, etc.
What about getting an old laser printer? It would be extra cool to have one on a network with all the other Macs. I hear that printers using the LaserWriter 8 driver works with everything from the old 68k to the new Mac OS X. But which printers are they? I guess they must have TCP/IP to work with post-AppleTalk versions of the OS.
I have 2 new I-Mac computers set up on a home network. I have my new Canon D480 Multifunction printer connected to one of the Macs ("Mac #1) by USB and it prints perfectly with the driver recommended in the printer manual downloaded from the Canon site. I have Printer sharing turned on. The printer's name on Mac #1 is Canon D460-490 (UFRII LT) which is the name that was automatically given to the printer when I downloaded the drivers and installed them.
However I am unable to print to the printer from the second new Mac ("Mac #2") although I have downloaded the same printer driver and have added the printer on Mac #2. The printer's name on Mac #2 is Canon D460-490 (UFRII LT) @ Mac #1.I go through the motions of File, Print, but nothing happens.
One of my summer projects I think is going to be getting as much paper out of my room as I can, it's all over the place. There is stuff I'd like to keep obviously, so I was thinking of buying a cheap scanner. But I figured, if I'm going to buy a cheap scanner, might as well go all the way and get an All-In-One Laser Printer. I don't want to spend too much, and I don't need it to print pictures or anything graphically intensive. The farthest I'd go would be some graphs most likely. And I'd like it to be moveable so I can take it to school with me.

I think it's time for me to go to wireless printing, and I'm tired of printing only single-sided (or trying to manually feed printed paper back in to try to get it two-sided.

The HP one that I was looking at (1200-something) isn't compatible, or so people claimed in the Amazon reviews. Mac can see the printer on the Windows Network, but the HP driver install disk does not. I can't seem to locate the P1006 on the Mac hard disk, and it does not show up on the driver list in printer setup.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI recently obtained a 2013 Macbook air 13" and upgraded the os to Yosemite. I plugged in my travel printer, Canon BJC-85 and there is no driver compatible. The mac recognized it as plugged in but under the list of available installed drivers there is nothing that will work with it.
I tried to do a software update but it says my system is already up to date. I went to the canon website and it said mac OS X already has the drivers.
I used this printer on another mac OS X laptop and it had the drivers already like it should.

I just got this laser printer, and in the specifications says that it can print on Both Sides manually. How can i use this feature where it prints every other page first? In the printing options i see "Two Sided Printing" but I can't click on this feature.

In the past, I have always insisted on a Postscript-compatible printer, thinking this was the only way to render high-quality graphics (I print plenty of text-only documents of course, but technical drawings and fancy typograph still constitute the bulk of my printing). Is Postscript (or Postscript emulation) still an important feature for today's laser printers?

They're both low-end with relatively similar price except the Oki is a LED printer and the Brother is a laser.
