View 1 RepliesI have a Sony GV-D1000 MiniDV Video Walkman that must be six plus years old? I haven't used it for two years.Today I attempted to plug it into my new MacMini running Lion 10.7.3 -- and quickly discovered I did not have the correct Firewire cable. The MacMini needs this newest mini input IEEE1394b Firewire 800 port Mbps 8 pin.My Sony GV-D1000 has an output i.LINK DV Interface IEEE1394a 400 Mbps 4 pin I dashed to the store and bought a cable with those connectors. Rocketfish RF-AP309 from Best Buy. Crud!! The MacMini cannot see the Video Walkman. I tried connecting, re-connecting… turning the Walkman off/on. Restarted the MacMini. Nothing. Tried this with my latest version of iMovie '11 -- and with iMovie HD vers 6.0.3. Neither video softwares can see the Sony GV-D1000. OK, Plan B:I pulled out my MacBook Pro 17" early 2008 (purchased new March 2008) running Lion 10.7.3.The new firewire cable just purchased will not work plugged into the MBP….. Next I grab a 400 Mbits FireWire IEEE 1394a. Plug that into the MPB and the other end into the Walkman. It works! It peforms well with both video software's. But… I want to work on the new MacMini. Would I have purchased a defective cable? Or is there something about the MacMini that won't accept the signal from the Sony GV-D1000?

My video footage is scattered in 2-3 tapes and i want to arrange them all in one. I was thinking to capture them in my PowerBookG4 via iMovieHD (6.0.3) and then record back all the footage (captured video) in the sequence i want, to one tape...
Is this possible and how?
p.s. Note that i want to capture and write back to the tape the uncompressed dv format and not mpeg.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a Dish Network DVR 625 and am trying to figure out how to transfer digital video from the DVR to my MacBook. The DVR has a USB port on the back of it, but as far as I know, it's useless. I know about transferring it via analog and then back to digital, but that takes a while and you lose quality. I'm wondering if anyone knows how to transfer the actual DVR files digitally.

I am thinking about buying this adapter for my macbook so i can connect my macbook to a TV. I know that if you connect a minidisplay port to a TV it doesn't transfer the computers sound to the TV speakers. Would this display connection through the USB port transfer sound to a TV.
This is really what I'm looking for in a connector because it would be nice to not have to set up the sound separate from the video.
Have noticed of recent that when i am watching movies on my laptop (avi's) after about 30 min the movie will freeze. at first i thought it was the file but trying files that i have known previously to work i have found that they also freeze now.
i have also noticed that when trying to upload files via FTP they will freeze half way and timeout.
i have run disk verify, and it has come back fine have tested the RAM using techtool pro and that also came back fine.

how I could connect my mini dv camcorder to my mac and transfer the video to the computer. My camcorder only came with cord for playback on TV and the power cord, but nothing for the computer, especially a Mac. The manual refers to a Dv cable (hURL....) and says "When using a DV cable, be sure to use the optional JVC VC-VDV206U or VC-VDV204U DV cable depending on the type of DV connector (4 or 6 pins) on the PC". Currently running Mavericks with Thunderbolt and a FireWire 800 port.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a 2011 Macbook Pro and an older (5 year old) Western Digital external hard drive. I have always used this hard drive for both mac and windows. Recently, however, whenever I go to transfer a file from the mac to the WD hard drive, the little transfer window pops up and it appears to initiate the transfer. However, it never fully starts it. It appears to "get stuck" in that initiating stage, showing zero of 3.16 gb transferred and shows an unknown transfer time. This happens no matter how long I leave it open. Again, I have used this external hard drive with my macs for the past 5 years without any problems until now. I haven't moved or modified the WD hard drive
