Mac Pro :: Discontinued Model Of 30" Apple Cinema Display

Jan 11, 2011

If I am in the market for getting a 30" Apple Cinema display, which is now a discontinued model, where is the best place to get one? Will I be able to find one "new in box" anywhere? Or should I buy refurbished? What about buying on eBay? What would be the best route to go for getting one? I just got a Nikon D7000 Camera and I'm looking at a larger display for editing high resolution photos, something matte without glare. I do like the 30" Apple display, but I know it's discontinued now.

Mac Pro :: 2 Out Of 3 Gfx Cards Discontinued

Jun 15, 2010

Actually, I don't even know why I was looking at graphics cards for the Mac Pro - I don't even own one. But every now and then I look them up. Anyway, the Australian store only has 3 cards:

- EVGA GeForce GTX 285
- NVIDIA Quadro FX 4800 and
- NVIDIA GeForce GT 120.

The first two have suddenly been discontinued - they were available at least a couple days ago, so it could've happened during todays store update. I have checked the UK store, they're still available... can't check the US store right now cause it's down again. [EDIT] US store up - they still have them for delivery[/EDIT] Anyway - what do people think this means? (Aside from us Aussies getting the short end of the stick again

Hardware :: Apple Internal MODEM Connection Setup?

Aug 13, 2008

I have just started using a G3 B/W Yosemite tower to replace my totally satisfactory Mini Tower on 9.2.2 - forced by IE not working any more.

I had to buy it a MODEM, a genuine Apple internal MODEM in a aluminium box with ribbon cable. I have installed it and it seems to know its there and makes dialling noises - but doesn't actually grab the line first . I need it to dial the phone and for Internet backup, I have broadband Internet connection via an ethernet LAN and router.

I tried using a Teleadapt RJ11 adapter which swops inner pair to outer pair, no luck. I have checked the line with a phone to be sure there is a dial tone, and left the phone off hook while activating the MODEM to check if anything happens, it just runs a continuous dial tone, but the computer is not finding a dial tone. Is there something I don't know to do? Is the RJ11 connection deviant? Or did I get sold a duff MODEM?

OS X :: One Time Kernel Panic While Connecting To Apple USB Modem

Jul 5, 2009

I just experienced a kernel panic while connecting to the internet on dial up using Apple's USB Modem, this is the first time it has happened and I've had the modem for over a year. It happened right after I yanked out the cable right after I clicked the connect button because I realized that the phone was currently in use. Should I post the log at /Library/Logs/PanicReporter ?

IMac :: Apple MA034Z/A External V.2 USB Modem Work With New 2009 24" Intel?

Apr 30, 2009

I'm new to the forum. I've tried searching out the answer to this question, but couldn't find any recent postings.

I've just received a new 2009 3.06ghz Intel iMac Core Duo 1TB ATI Radeon computer. My internet connection is dial-up (not Ethernet or WiFi). I just discovered there's no phone connection on the new iMac, and that I need a USB modem.

The computer booklet recommends the Apple External USB Modem. I found this one on Amazon:

[URL]

But the customer reviews suggest it may not be truly compatible with Intel machines. It may cause system freezes. I found a thread on this forum that mentioned the problem may have to do with using an unpowered USB hub. I won't be using the keyboard or any hub. The USB modem will be plugged directly into the back of my iMac.

Does anyone know if this will work, or if not, is there another USB modem that will?

Applications :: Skype As Modem Or Modem Emulator?

Feb 10, 2007

Is there any sort of "bridge" software that allows a terminal emulation program, say, Z-Term, to use Skype as a modem? It seems silly to pay for connections to BBS's when I've got SkypeOut, but I haven't been able to find a way to do this.

Hardware :: Using Fax Modem?

Oct 12, 2009

I am aware that I can e-mail these things, but a few required me to fax them. My wife wants me to buy a fax machine even though I just need to fax something once in a while.

I have a Power Mac G4 using MAC OS 10.5.8. My Internet, TV, and Phone connections are cable from Cable Vision in New York. My computer has an internal 56K V.92 modem on the back. I used one end of a regular phone line jack to connect to the internal modem and the other end to the phone line. When I tried to fax something I kept getting a message that said "Waiting for modem to become available." I cannot fax anything from the computer.

OS X :: Fax From Internal Modem?

Feb 20, 2009

I am trying to send and receive faxes from my internal modem on my macbook pro. I think the port I am plugging the phone line into is an ethernet port. Does this double up as a modem port or is there no port for me to plug in to?

I have tried everything else and think this is the problem.

If I cannot plug my phone line into the port how can I send and receive faxes on my computer?

Yes I know why dial-up, I am a Technician who has to remotely connect to customer sites for maintenance-changes etc.. Vista will not recognize the modem nor is there any driver support through Apple for this scenario. Any suggestions or tricks would be great? Oh yeah, if i get this to work my company will deploy all Mac products .

Mac Pro :: How To Fax Without Phone Line Or Modem

Dec 21, 2010

I have a mac pro (intel) and macbook pro (intel). OS X 10.6, both without modems. I need to fax maybe 1-5 pages a month and am tired of going to the local mailboxes etc. And paying $1 page. My multiprinter Canon MP500 does not fax. I know I can join an efax type system but that's $80 a year. Are there any software programs to download and takes care of 'Sending" faxes without a modem or fax machine. Looked a pagesender but that requires a efax type of account. Just want to convert a scan into a fax and send it without adding another telephone line or piece of hardware.

OS X :: ISP Requires PPPoE - Is That Because Of The ISP Or Modem

Jan 2, 2011

My ISP requires that I connect via PPPoE. The lame ISP doesn't even have a quick setup [auto setup] process via CD or dmg. No problem as PPPoE isn't a problem even though I don't like it. If anything goes wrong I'm always having to fiddle with my PPPoE settings in Airport Utility etc. Sort of a nuisance. I'm using my Airport Express and get dropouts quite often. Could be torrent throttling, maybe not. The modem I have is the stock ISP modem which I don't like anyway because it only has one LAN port. I was thinking of buying my own modem. Can you buy any modem? Would that eliminate the requirement for a PPPoE connection? Is PPPoE required because of the the modem or ISP or both?

OS X :: Using Two Airports At 1 Wireless Modem?

Nov 21, 2009

I have a wireless network set up at my home. I have two laptops that were both working fine on the network at one point. Laptop A still works fine, thus the network is working. Laptop B cannot connect to the internet via this network but the airport connection on that machine is completely full.

In my system preferences > Network Panel I am able to see the green light suggesting that I am connect to the network and that I am also connect to the internet via this airport.

It is also worth noting that the same machine works fine connecting to the internet at my office via the airport there as well as other airport networks.

I am at a loss because the fact that laptop A works on the network rules out the network as the issue and the fact that laptop B works on other wireless network suggests that the settings are correct. Both machines are running the same OS 10.6 ( latest updates)

OS X :: Gray Screen When Using Usb Modem

Nov 23, 2009

Something strange happened to my Mac, I use a USB modem by Orange il. Mac recognized it with no problem and installed the installation package. After installation when Mac recognized the modem again a gray screen appeared and asked to do Hard Reset. I'm using Snow Leopard 10.6.2 and I had no such problems with it. It happened to me once when I had version 10.5 and changed Drivers for usb to use Dfu. I checked the computer, and to be sure I downloaded the new drivers and reinstall it and it still happens when I insert the modem. As soon as I uninstall the modem I can insert it without a problem until I install the drivers and then this Crash happens again.
