Final Cut Pro X :: Transcoding M2TS Files Into PRORES (HQ) Using Pavtube

Aug 22, 2014

I transcode M2TS files into PRORES (HQ) using PAVTUBE. Final cut X takes a long time rendering them. Also in playback, the audio appears for a second and disappears to reappearing another second, for the entire clip. Is it normal ? Is there a better way to import m2ts files ?

Final Cut Studio :: Capturing ProRes Then Import To Premiere Pro

Jul 1, 2014

I don't do much with tape anymore but a client has provided me with some HDV tape that i want to edit as ProRes in Premiere Pro.

I don't have a third party capture card so therefore in Premiere Pro I am limited to capturing only as HDV from tape.

I'm thinking of capturing as ProRes in FCP 7 (which I had done for ages before switching to Premiere in the wake of FCP X) and then importing the subsequent ProRes files into Premiere from the capture folder.

Final Cut Pro X :: Running Slow When Viewing Events And Transcoding

Jun 25, 2014

So I'm running FCPX version 10.1.1. I just imported a lot of video (almost 1TB). All of it is in 1080p. I did not copy anything in and left it in its original folders. So I am having two problems:

1. I wanted to transcode all of the video to work better with FCPX. Part of the original media is ProRes 422, but part of it was AVCHD. So after converting the AVCHD to Quicktime (.MOV) files, I went to transcode all of the footage to optimized media during import, but it was painfully slow. It would take 15 minutes to transcode a 10 second clip. My computer would also get very hot during this process (90*C). After multiple attempts, I decided to forgo that and just transcode when I export.

Now problem #2.

2. I am just viewing the media in the events browser to put keywords on the videos. All I am doing is viewing the videos. I have not even created a project or anything. When I'm viewing it, a lot of the clips won't load or play back, and my computer gets really hot (90*C). I can't even scrub over the videos in the event browser because they will be blacked out or blank and won't load. And this fluctuates. Sometimes I will be able to view the media,I have reset the PRAM and the SMC and neither of those have worked.

System Specifications:

Mavericks OSX 10.9.3
Macbook Pro Retina, 15-inch, Late 2013
16 GB of Ram
Intel i7 Quad Core - 2.6 GHz
Intel Iris Pro with Nvidia GeForce GT 750M
500 GB SSD - 202.44 Free
Secondary Drive (with all of my video files):

Final Cut Pro X :: How To Strip Audio From ProRes Clips And Save Them Without Degrading Video

Sep 5, 2014

I need to strip the audio off of a few ProRes files with the end product being ProRes files; easy enough to do but don't want to degrade the quality of the original video (via any compression etc). If I just hit File/Share/Master File with the video-without-audio on the timeline, otherwise untouched, will it create an original-quality ProRes file essentially the original video without the audio?

Applications :: How To Convert Blu-ray M2TS Files On Mac

Mar 17, 2010

I know it has been talked a lot about ripping and converting Blu Ray DVDs. Without a doubt Windows Users have a lot more apps to choose from - as always. Well, as I looked thru dozens of forums and tried out a lot - I still have no answer to my problem. I want to use m2ts - video files from Blu Ray Disks, that I copied onto a harddrive and convert them into 1920x1080 px MOV files - so that I can work with them later on. My interest is not to work with a 1to1 mkv-version of the whole film and sound and subtitles. I just want to convert the copied file to work with it in a video editing program. Some Apps seem not to offer 1920x1080 output file size. Is this possible without an complete Blu Ray Rip with Tools such as Pavtube etc? And can one only convert from an Original BD Disk?

My System is a MacBook PRO 10.5.8 // 2.2 GHZ Intel DUO// 2GB Ram

IMac :: How To Play Blu-ray M2TS Files

Apr 30, 2010

I have recently downloaded a blu-ray video file. After I unzip it there are 2 folders BDMV and certificate and if I go into BDMV I will see many sub folders where one is called stream and inside have heaps m2ts files and one which is the largest and I assume thats the one I wanna watch. My question is does anyone know how to play m2ts files on mac or just be able to play blu ray files (not blu ray disc). I think this must be an exact rip of the video from its original blu-ray disc. I have tried VLC but it didn't work.

OS X :: Editing M2ts Files On An Imac?

Aug 11, 2010

I'm just taking my first look at video editing have a Panasonic HD camcorder (HDC-SD10) and an imac running Snow Leopard.

The format from the Camcorder is .m2ts which play great on the PS3 but won't play on the iMac unless I use VLC.

Now I'd like to edit these video files in iMovie and know that I have to convert them to be able to do so.

Obviously I'd like to be able to convert these a) losslessly and b) if possible using freeware. Losslessly is the main requirement though.

Is it possible to do a lossless conversion and if so with what software.????

Compressor 4 :: Frame Rate From H.264 To ProRes

Sep 1, 2014

I have h.264 footage from smartphone with 29.8 fps (container mp4) and converting to ProRes via Compressor i have the issue as follows:

1. If i set automatic fps in Compressor to 30fps, converted footage to ProRes playbacks smoothly.

converted footage available here: [URL] ....

2. If i set automatic fps near original 29.97 fps, converted footage to ProRes playbacks stutters (especially if you pay attention to the part of footage, where child is going toward a house wall).

converted footage available here: [URL] ....

Original footage: [URL] ....

However, if I repeat the same processes in Adobe Encoder, footage playbacks smoothly in both cases:

Footage converted via Adobe Encoder 29.97fps Apple ProRes: [URL] ...

Footage converted via Adobe Encored 30fps Apple ProRes: [URL] ...

It does not matter which type of ProRes i choose, problem persists in all of them under 29.97 fps.

Applications :: Transcoding Video With 5.1 AAC For IPhone?

Mar 14, 2009

Firstly, the video doesnt play with anything except VLC on a Mac... quicktime simply replies with the message "An invalid public movie atom was found in the movie" and refuses to budge.

Secondly, I have a full version of VisualHub and Handbrake. Till date VH has never failed me but all of a sudden it says that 5.1 AAC is not supported.

Using Handbrake and the iPhone preset results in a disastrous transcode with ghastly sound effects like those in a horror movie... I later gathered that it was the same sound but playing at an extremely slow pace.

If I should change it, what choice do I choose in the retiming panel? 30@29.97? 29.97@30?

Applications :: Adding Subtitles To DIVX File With No Transcoding?

Mar 28, 2008

With the advent of the PS3 getting Divx subtitle support in it's latest firmware revision, I'm trying to encode a Divx file to add subtitles. I can't for the life of me find a Mac application that will add a subtitle stream to a Divx file - usually this results in the creation of a .divx file. (.divx file containers support multiple audio and subtitle stream, and that is the format the PS3 requires the file to be in to play back the subtitles).

I do not want to "burn in" the subtitles to the video stream as this would require transcoding the video, which I do not want to do (time consuming, and can ruin a perfectly good encode). I've found the following programs for Windows, but can't seem to find a Mac equivalent:
http://www.calcitapp.com/AVIAddXSubs.php
http://www.trustfm.net/divx/SoftwareAviSub.php?b2=1
http://userxp.tripod.com/sub2divx.htm

As you can see by those bits of software, they simply take the avi file, the srt file and combines them into a .divx file with no transcoding. Has anyone got a similar solution for the mac world? I tried using the AVIAddXSubs via Darwine but it didn't seem to work.

Final Cut Pro X :: Open Express 4.0 Files In 10.1.3?

Aug 29, 2014

I recently bought Final Cut Pro 10.1.3 two days ago and I am having trouble opening up my old Final Cut Express 4.0 files. When I do go to open up these files they only open up with Final Cut Express and I always get the message: file's format is too new for this version of the application.

How do I open these Final Cut Express 4.0 files in Final Cut Pro 10.1.3?

Final Cut Pro X :: How To Convert MP4 To MOV 4K Video Files

Any file converter that will convert MP4 4K/UHD to .Mov 4K/UHD.

Final Cut Pro X :: Importing Old Project Files?

I have a new Mac Pro running Maverick bought when my IMac running Leopard died on me. The reason I never upgraded the old IMac was because of FCP 6 which I did not want to lose. I backed up regularly onto Time Machine and kept my FCP project files on an external hard drive

I was part way through editing a project when my IMac died. I bought 7toX thinking I would be able to import it but now find that I can't because you have to have FCP 6 or 7 already installed to do so, which you can't with OS 10.9.4.

Final Cut Pro X :: Version 10.1.3 - Why Files So Large

Dec 4, 2014

I am currently working on an IMac Quad Core Processor W / OS X Mavericks 10.9.5, with 16GB of RAM and 8GB video Card and a 1TB drive (512 Solid State/512 Hard Drive).  I am using Final Cut Pro X version 10.1.3.

I am pretty new to a MAC system and still learning the in's and out's of the system and how to use it.  I have done 4 projects in FCP X and I have around 28GB of data storage left on my 1TB drive.  When I looked up one project that is 54 minutes long, it says that file is 500GB and it is not loaded with special effects at all? I cannot believe that it would take that much space.

Here is some information on how I start a project...

I will create a new Library, then I will import media into separate events such as Camera 1 video, Camera 2 video and such.

Final Cut Pro X :: 10.1.2 - Media Management -> Render Files

Aug 20, 2014

Running FCP X 10.1.2 ... I wanted to verify a few things with the community about media mgmt that the white paper really doesn't explain to well. My archiving procedure is as follows:

I import media to an Event to offload footage from camera/card. I then close FCP X, open the finder and open the library and "show package contents" and then pick the original media folder. I then copy that folder to another offsite drive I have dated by year -> folder.

Example: 2014 - Footage from Colorado.  (I do this to always store my original media outside any project I'm working on for future reference. This is ok, correct? Is there a better way?)

Second, I learned the other day that if I want to archive/backup libraries or even clean up the library,it is good practice to remove all rendered/transcoded media files. It is pretty simple from the "file" menu to do this. Question, if I just removed the rendered media, how long does it take again before FCP X background tasks starts working / rendering media again? Do I stop this somehow so I have time to backup the library? I thought this process was automated after a few seconds?
