Final Cut Pro X :: Sees Camera But Will Not Import
Dec 3, 2014
I have a Canon XL1s going into my MacBook Pro running Final Cut X via DV to FireWire 800 to thunderbolt. Since I am recording long meetings I skip recording to tape and record straight to the hard drive. I have done this in the past and it worked on older versions of the same hardware and software.
It will import only when the camera is also recording. Now When you import, you can see the feed and the computer says its importing, but after you stop importing the files are nowhere to be found. I even tried this on IMovie and used someone else's Mac with the same result.

FCPX (latest version) recognizes my external hard drive (my book 4TB) as a camera. Didn't dave this problem before, so when I'm importing to my project the the hard drive is listed as a camera and the program starts to scan through all files! this means that the ram memory is filled i no time! Is it something in my settings or is it the new version of fcpx that is playing tricks on me (not supported had drive?)

Since upgrading to Snow Leopard, I can no longer import P2 footage. I get the stop sign and error: no data.In the import window I can play the clip and everything is fine, but when I add to the clip to the import queue it just times out.
Any thoughts? Is it somehow related to Quicktime being updated by Snow Leopard?

I have a Kodak easyshare V1253 Camera. It won't let me import photos and videos from the camera via iPhoto. Just says error downloading image. If I go into bootcamp it imports fine on windows. How can i fix this? I would much like to have a way to take pictures directly from the camera rather than through iPhoto like in the finder. Is this possible as when i plug in my camera nothing comes up.

I just converted to a 2007 Macbook (wife's old comp) and was using Sony's PMB software with my PC (Windows XP SP2). I know that I can use iMovie '08 to import the files but they are HUGE. I assume it's because PMB imports in AVHCD format and iMovie uses .MOV? Is there another program I can use to import my files. I don't want to waste all my hard drive space importing a few movies.

When I import a video from my camera to iMovie it lags bad. I have a black MacBook with a 2.4 core 2 duo and 4gb of ram. I know it is not the file on the cam. I am also running iMovie 08. The video I am trying to improt is from a GoPro hero 2 in 1080p. Is that to much for my old Mac? OS 10.7.3

I recently upgraded to Snow Leopard on my Macbook and iMac. My camera will not Import any pictures since the upgrade onto the macbook only, the camera is recognised on the iMac in iphoto and the easyshare software. I had no issues with the camera using Leopard. The error message reads, "camera not detected, please retry" this is in the kodak easyshare software and the pictures will not Import into iPhoto either.
I have a Kodak M532 easyshare camera with a Sandisc SDHC memory card. The camera uses a usb lead. The memory card works on the iMac and it is also recognised in the Kodak printer memory card reader, so I don't think it is the memory card at fault.I took out the memory card then took some pictures, iPhoto and easyshare software recognised the camera and Imported them on the macbook.

I have a problem digitising footage into final cut from my Sony HD 1080i/mini DV camera.
It used to work ok, albeit with some rendering issues.I had it set to the HD settings. Suddenly it stopped working I have tried adjusting the audio visual settings, using several different types. The only one i could get it to communicate on was DV50 pal 48Hz anamorphic. But it stops digitising after 3/4 sec and says there is a problem with my source tape.

I have tried to use the "camera archive functionality" for the first time and got a problem, I can't solve myself:
I plugged a SD-Card with content of my Panasonic SD 909 into my Mac and opened FCPX. Then I went to the "Import Media"-Window. The card is shown twice. I think, this is, because it contains different media. Some clips shot in Panasonics "iFrame"-Mode (which leads to h.264), some shots in the well-known AVCHD-mode. First is shown in the one camera-card, second in the other. Importing media from this card(s) into an FCPX event works without problems.
No I activated one of the two cards in the upper right panel and clicked on "create archive" (or similar, I use the german translation). A window pops up where I can choose the destination for the archive (I have chosen my desktop first). I did not activate the option "create favorite" for now and started processing.
It took a long while (about 18 GB of data), but then the archive was created and in the finder, I can see it on my desktop. Annotation: Selecting the first or second camera-card for archiving leads to the same result. In both cases a archive was generated which stores both contens (approved by examining the package size and content in the finder).
But now, the problem(s):When I go to the import window in FCPX again, the archive is not visible. It does not appear in the left panel of the import media-Window. Not as a camera, not as a device, not as an archive. Restarting FCPX and even my Mac does not solve this.I can navigate to the archive via choosing my harddisk/desktop in the left panel and can see it in the "choose media section" in the bottom of the window. It behaves like a folder there. When I open this folder, I only see the h.264-media, but no AVCHD-Clips. This happens, regardless which card I have choosen when generating the archive (tried it with both, and - as said - both ways result in the same archive).
What am I doing wrong? I know, in older versions of FCPX, archives had to be stored in a special folder inside the movie-folder of my user, but this has changed with 10.1.2 and the folder is not there any longer. Is there an other place for the archives? I thought, starting with 10.1.2 it's no matter, where to store them...
Or is this a bug in FCPX (10.1.3)?
If this is on interest, my OS is 10.9.4, the complete system nearly a "virgin" (fresh complete install).

My camera (Canon T5I DSLR) has audio hiss in it. I heard that this is the automatic gain control in my camera. However I can't disable it. It therefor leaves an annoying hiss in the audio. Is there a way that I could remove this in final cut pro x or garage band?

Well, till the upgrade to FCPX 10.1.3 i have problems with importing footage from my Sony VG30 ( .MTS AVCHD files). From the past, i just copy the file from the SD card on the computer and then import it in FCPX. When i do that, i can't import it, but there are audio bugs (parasite sounds). From the past, that method also work on FCPX 10.1.1 but now i'm on 10.1.3 i can't see the content of the SDCard, arriving to AVCHD folder, FCPX will no more import or recogniste it as video media.

I bought a Mac so I could use the free, but good video editing software in iMovie. When I try to import AVI files from my digital camera on to it, it crashes and shuts down before they import... I need help. Also, even if I try to just play a file in finder, quicktime will crash. It is weird, because the files worked perfectly on my old PC. Help please!!!
Also, is there any way to take back a Mac if it was bought on URL

I have some live footage of musical performance. I have footage from two cameras and the sound off the desk that I need to sync up. I had hoped I could sync the sound to both cameras, then put in which shots I chose at any given point, but I don't know if the system will do that.

When I try to create a camera archive from the card a videographer gave me I see that the archive grows to the expected size but then I get a message saying "Unable to create camera archive". Here is what the card looks like with all its folders open:
Here is the Inspector from one of the files on the card:
Here is how Final Cut sees the card from the import window:
I also imported the files without making a camera archive. In that case Final Cut copied all of the files, not letting me choose the option to leave the files in place. I am able to use the files so copied, except the audio is missing in the final frame of each clip, an example of which you can see below. There is a video image in the final frame and it is different from the one before it and the one after it.
I've also tried to process the files with ClipWrap but ClipWrap does not allow me to drag anything from the card onto its clip window. Why does Final Cut fail to create an archive?
Is there any better way to import the files than the way that led to the missing frame of audio on the end of each clip?

Just updated to 10.1.2. My typical workflow is as follows:
1. Copy AVCHD folder (with all files and file structure) from a SD Card to ext HD
2. Import AVCHD folder (with all files and file structure) from ext HD to FCX
But all of a sudden, when I look to import new footage that I just copied to my ext HD, I no longer have an option to import an entire AVCHD folder (with the file in it). FCX doesn't even show the AVCHD folders on my ext HD.
HOWEVER - When I copy a newly created AVCHD file to my desktop, FCX sees those files (though I don't have the option to import and entire folder filled with the AVCHD files).
I have an entire ext HD full of archived AVCHD folders from SD cards. I thought this was a good way to have back up files (I also have these AVCHD folders on another back up cloud drive), but now it looks like I can't even access them with the new FCX update.

An issue arose today with our new MacPro/FCPX/SNS EVO SAN combo.
When importing media from a portable drive using FCPX in “copy files” mode, with the Library’s media folder residing on the SAN, FCPX imports but does not copy the media. The clip appearing in the browser is still linked to the original file.
If the clip is of a codec that can be optimized and the option in the import window is ticked, only the optimized media is copied to the SAN volume.
Renders work, writing to a dedicated NAS volume, Exports work too, writing to another dedicated Exports NAS volume.
I am stumped. I have never seen FCPX behave this way. The strange thing is that at no time does it indicate any problem with the copying process not succeeding…
Because the optimized media is created on the volume I would imagine this is probably more of an OS/FCPX issue but I don’t know enough about the processes in the mac to be sure of that.
OBTW: Trashed the prefs, with both Pref Manager and alt+cmd at launch.

I don't do a lot with Mini DV, but I have a mini dv tape that I'm attempting to capture using FCP7. Basically when I play the video to a TV off the camcorder, it looks fine, and when I play it in the "log and capture" preview window it looks fine, but when I actually capture it, the video is very pixelated/chunky. What am I doing wrong here? I notice that in the "log and capture" preview window, there are interlacing/combing lines, and when I play the captured clip, there are not. Can FCP7 be trying to deinterlace my footage and butchering it in the process? I'd rather have combing than this pixelated mess.
You can see a comparison in the screenshot here, especially noticeable in this comparison along the roof lines: [URL] ...

My Canon 70d took a sample video set 1080p 60 fps (59.97) (ALL-I). I then imported to a project (FCP set up for 1080p) but when bringing the clip into the timeline and selecting it then looking at "info" it states 720. Why is this? And will this still export to full 1080p?

I have: FCP X 10.1.3
Hi 8 tapes and camera
VHS and SVHS tapes and camera
JVC GY-DV5000U camera and mini DV tapes
Firewire cable
Apple Thunderbolt to FireWire Adapter
These tapes and cameras are unsupported in FCP X 10.1.3.
How can I capture (import) the video tape segments onto my Mac OS X version 10.9.4 so that I can edit the video in FCP? Are there special procedures or products that are needed?
