Final Cut Pro X :: Two List Views Of Event Media?
Dec 10, 2014
The first thing I do after importing my media is I sync the secondary audio with the video clips.Â
The audio clips are usually named Zoom... or Tascam... and the video is typically named MVI... or something else.Â
Going back and forth between the correct take of the audio and the correct take of the video requires that I scroll up and down the list. It would be great if you could split the view into two separate lists and that way you could easily see both while syncing.Â

When I add media files into an event by dragging and dropping the file into the project the file does not get moved/copied 'Macintosh's HD Projects' folder.Â
Is there a setting somewhere I can change so dragging and dropping behaves the same way as when I use CMD+I to import a file?Â
I am using the most up-to-date version of FCPX in Mavericks.

Lion keeps dafaulting to the Column view which I find useless and annoying. I cannot find any preference setting to default to the more functional List view.

I made the mistake of choosing the "new" 3-column format in Mail when I upgrade to Lion. I'm guessing that most people love this, but I ain't one of them. My question: How do I get back to the old familiar list all emails at the top with email content views at the bottom?

Is there (or will there ever be) any way to change the white default color of finder windows in column and list views? Or is there a 3rd party app? You can change them in icon view but that's the only view I never use. My eyes get so tired staring at white all day. If I could make all my windows dark grey I could work longer, better, happier. Would also love to make the Mail app dark.

Yesterday one of my editors finished a project for a client. Today the client requested a change. When my editor opened FCPX 10.1.3 to make the change, my editor found the event he was working in yesterday to be completely empty. I stepped in to see what happened. Indeed he was correct, the event (Warm Springs) is completely empty! When clicking on the event , the "import media" button shows thus validating the idea that FCPX sees this event as empty. Â
When I went in to look at "show package contents," It shows that there is indeed stuff in that event. What my editor may have done to cause this problem in the first place but why there is stuff in finder level of the event file but nothing is showing up in FCPX?

I am having an issue with final cut x where videos aren't being imported into an event. I have tried using the import option and dragging and dropping the files. The files are mp4 which I've never had an issue with importing before. The program was working just fine a few minutes before this happened.

I have a Library containing 22 Events which are numbered instead of named. Each event contains Green Screen clips whose thumbnails all look the same. I found the set of (Piece to Camera) clips I want, using a keyword search of the Library - but now I want to create a Compound Clip in the relevant Event so that I can do a rough edit (discard unsuitable and duplicated narrative etc).Â
Next, I want to copy the remaining good clips from this Compound to a new Project - in a different Library. I don't want to copy the unwanted clips. My problem is, finding the Event these clips originated from. I can use the disclosure triangle on each Event in turn, but surely there's a better way to find the parent Event of a clip in the browser?

At my job I was given a new computer with an updated version of Final Cut Pro (FCP 10.1 - my old computer has FCP 10.0.7 installed). I tried moving my fcp events from my old computer to my new computer via an external drive.Â
The events did not show up in the fcp software on my new computer after plugging in my external drive.Â
I plugged my external drive back into my old computer. The events showed up but I could not locate any of the projects associated with those events.Â
Aren't projects stored inside events? How can I locate these projects so I can move them to my new computer?

I just updated to Final Cut 10.1.3
I was working on a project in final cut and my computer crashed. When I restarted my computer and Final Cut, it seemed ok. It opens on the project I was working on before the one I was working on when it crashed. When I go to scroll up in the event, towards where the most recent projects are, eventually I get the spinning rainbow of death and then final cut stops responding. I have forced quit and restarted it but the same thing keeps happening. When I open other earlier projects in the same event, they seem to open and work fine.
I tried 'Update Projects and Events' but when I click 'update all' it says that it can't find anything to update.Â

I have an event file that when selected crashes the app. I don't need it, but cannot select it to delete it.Â
I opened the package contents of the Library and found the offending file, and successfully moved it to my trash. However, it still appears in the event list when I restart FCP X (version 10.1.3). I have attempted to close the library and reopen it, close the app and reopen it, but still it persists.Â
Is there a way to force the library to rebuild itself, or something else that will remove it from the event list? (FYI it appears with a warning triangle).

I have a yellow triangle with an exclamation mark on my event. I was working on it and noticed it when I restarted FCP X. Could be that FCP X was crashing while copying or something. But now I don't get it away. But I looked into it.Â
The 4 photo's and 1 piece of music were quickly found in the menu left of the timeline. But there are two strange stings going on:Â
1. Scrubbing through the timeline, at certain points the Beach-ball begins to spin and won't stop. I waited 30 minutes (nothing), restart FCP X (nothing), rebooted (nothing), cleaned with Onyx (nothing): I had to force quit FCP X. I cannot see where it goes wrong, but it's at multiple points.Â
2. While using "relink files" all went wrong. It found photo's with te same name (but in fact other pictures). I deleted those. I went in the library (within Finder) to the Original Files folder, replaced the aliasses of the files pointing to a _Trash folder within the library. I thought the right pictures were back: no. I've dragged those back from iPhoto into the event, with the music also (from iTunes). There double now, but everything is good... except for the exclamation-mark!
Then I made a new library, dragged the project to the new library: copy used clips except the two options given (proxy en render files?). The new event also got a exclamation mark. I played the whole thing: no crashes, no beach-balls, no red missing clips signs, no yellow exclamation-mark in the Timeline Index.
In the original project I can now scrub little pieces (without spinning beach-balls) and I see the pictures on the timeline (in the preview) but with a yellow exclamation-mark in the index...? It cannot be found in the eventbrowser... how strange is that?Â
Since the update to Final Cut Pro X 10.1.3 I cannot go back to a previous library. What do I do. I'm afraid if I continue to edit things will go south later on.

I can import only selected portions of video clips from my iPhone5. At present I have to import the full length of the video clip into the event and in so doing, I am unable to 'weed' out unrequired segments. Is editing the video clip in the iPhone itself the only option one has or is there any other way of doing it during the import process itself?Â

After transferring my projects, and then events (separately) to my external hard drive, everything worked after relinking media except for all of my compound clips and multicam clips. Â
I do not know where to locate them in Finder, nor how to get them back. When I tried transferring my events and projects back to my internal hard drive, they still were not there.Â
Everything was fine before with Final Cut Pro X (Version 10.0.8) but now it is seriously hindering my work.Â

I accidentally moved an event from my library to the trash (from within FCPX using the 'move event to trash' command). I realized what I did right away and hit 'undo' from the file menu. When I open the event library I can see everything there, but the project is not showing up in FCPX, even after restarting the program.
Is there a way to save the project? I also saved all of the project files/folders, including the 'current version' to a separate folder before accidentally trashing (copied them to a backup with the master files I created). Is there a way to restore those files? I like to save the project folders/files with my masters in case I ever has to revisit any project for any reason. Figured I could just drop them back into the directory and then reimport all of the 'missing' media.

Recently my event clips and timeline clips have turned grey and no video imagery shows unless I pass the cursor over the individual clip. I was close to finishing this project and it plays in the viewer but making adjustments etc seems impossible. FCP is updated and I have restart the computer several times. I have used FCP for 3 years and have never had this problem.

I already have a folder of media on the same drive. When I go to import the files, FCPX has add to library selected and won't let me select "leave in place". Is there a preference or setting somewhere that will let me reference the files?Â

Running FCP X 10.1.2Â ... I wanted to verify a few things with the community about media mgmt that the white paper really doesn't explain to well. My archiving procedure is as follows:Â
I import media to an Event to offload footage from camera/card. I then close FCP X, open the finder and open the library and "show package contents" and then pick the original media folder. I then copy that folder to another offsite drive I have dated by year -> folder.Â
Example: 2014 - Footage from Colorado. (I do this to always store my original media outside any project I'm working on for future reference. This is ok, correct? Is there a better way?)Â
Second, I learned the other day that if I want to archive/backup libraries or even clean up the library,it is good practice to remove all rendered/transcoded media files. It is pretty simple from the "file" menu to do this. Question, if I just removed the rendered media, how long does it take again before FCP X background tasks starts working / rendering media again? Do I stop this somehow so I have time to backup the library? I thought this process was automated after a few seconds?Â

I edited a multicam project that had three AVCHD clips as the source. The footage was optimized (although I never chose to do it –Final Cut did it on its own). The project is done now I want to send the Library overseas. I'd like to just put it on a thumb drive rather than have to buy and ship a hard drive. What happens if I delete the optimized media? Is there a way to switch it so FCPX plays back the original media, not the transcoded, and I'll let the next editor decide whether she wants to optimize? Â

Working on an iMac with a FCX library that links to an external media folder which has all my video. I'm not using managed media, but external links to the video source footage.Â
I make an exact duplicate copy of my FCX library on a USB drive, including the external media folder with all my video clips -- using the same folder structure and everything, But when I move that to another computer (MacBook Pro), open the exact same FCX library, open the same project -- I get missing links on every clip on my timeline. The library doesn't connect to the external media folder.Â
Re-linking causes an error and doesn't work either. The FCX library just won't take my "external media" folder which it links to fine on my iMac. All my projects on my MacBook Pro, have red "missing file" icons instead of the clips.Â
Running FCX 10.1.4. and Yosemite.Â

After using FCP 7 for years, I have finally moved to FCP 10 and completed a course which didn't deal with this basic question. I have for example 3 SD cards, with video clips on them, lets call them, 1/ wide shot, 2/ close up and 3/sundry. I have created a library and have no problem importing data from SD_1, but I cannot work out how to eject SD_1 and insert SD_2 to import data and so on. Even after the MBP has imported, rendered and shows all background processes as "Idle" if I try to eject SD_1 it shows a message, "Card in use".

I just made the transition to FCPX and I've imported video to a number of Libraries. (I really have to fight hard not to call them Projects)
As I didn't completely understanding all of the import settings, I made Optimized video along with the Original media. Ok, no big deal. The files take up a bit of space, and because of the nature of the project (lots of talking head interviews) not sure I really need Optimized video, but wasn't too concerned. I'll know for next time that I don't want to check that box, unless I really need the Optimized video.Â
My question is -
If I wanted to make a copy of my media files to a portable HD, work with these files off site with the same Library that is on my Macbook Pro, make logging notes, selects, maybe even creating a Project or two, and then return to my office where I would re-connect the original media files located on the office-bound hard drives, what do I need to do to ensure that this will work properly?  Â
Secondarily, would it now make sense to create the Proxy files to use for this purpose? Is this not what these files are normally used for? Smaller, and more easily taken on the road and edited, and then the Library will re-connect everything to the original files once re-connected to the drives that contain the original media?Â
