I messed up a library and lost a project, then I found a copy of it in the backup folder, now when I open the project it asked me to relink files, but a part of them are inside an avchd package. How to relink those files ?Â
View 4 RepliesI have a bunch of projects created pre the FCPX 10.1 update (ie created prior to June 2013) that when I try to update so that I can access the project in 10.1 , FCPX refuses to relink to the original media files. It says that the files are recognised, but are incompatible as they do not share the same media range.Â
The media files are stored on external drives (and were always stored this way), the folder structure hasn't changed since the projects were originally created. The only thing that has changed is the old project has been converted to a new 10.1 project. Â
I have noticed that the info tab of the new project lists all the missing media as having a media range beginning at 00:00:00:00. However, if I reimport the original files into the library, the media range never starts at 00:00:00:00. It will start at a different time code, often with the first number corresponding to the hour of the day the footage was shot (so something shot at 11am will read 11:00:00:00). Â
Both original media, and missing media, share the exact same duration, audio channels etc, just the timecode form Media Start/End is different.Â
I am wondering whether:Â
1) In converting the old project, has FCPX reset all the media start codes to begin at 00:00:00:00? And can it be fixed?
2) Has FCPX has changed the way it recognises time codes with the 10.1 release, so that my original media is being imported correctly, but differently to when the original project was created?
3) If there are any situations where the media start/end timecode of my original media could have changed? Say in upgrading to Mavericks?Â
Either way, almost every single project I have completed with FCPX prior to June 2013, is now unlinked, and cannot be relinked due to the fact that the project has one idea of the media start range, and FCPX has another.Â
I have tried deleting the alias files in the library file, replacing them with the original files. That has no impact.Â
I'm currently operating on FCPX 10.1.3, working on OSX 10.9.4

After updating to 10.1.2 it seems that FCPX now uses a different file naming scheme on imported AVCHD files. Â
Previously on import, it would use a file naming scheme based on date ie. '2014-06-14 10_49_47 (id).mov' etc. which is great for me as I could see exactly what date & time that clip was created at a glance in the event viewer, also when a camera on a shoot had it's time out by an hour due to an incorrect daylight saving setting, I could use easily go through the clips tweaking the time in the file name & then they would show in the correct order in FCPX.Â
Now 10.1.2 just imports the clips using the useless file naming scheme of 'clip #1.mov' etc ...
Any way to get FCPX to import using the old naming scheme - or am I now boned if I have a camera set incorrectly ...
I updated everything to FCPX 10.1.1. Â
Some clips became unlinked. I go to link them ... and am stopped dead by the NEW Library Icon (with all it's internal folders no longer seemingly accessible). I know the file is in there - if I do a search in Finder for the missing media, it takes me right to where it is.Â
When I do a relink, stopped dead in my tracks by the new format. How do I access the folders hidden in the new Project Library to relink my clips with their original media?

Does anyone have experience using Final Cut Express (FCE) with AVCHD files on a Mac mini? Editing AVCHD is CPU intensive and Core 2 Duo instead of i5 on the mini is disappointing. But in practice, is the performance acceptable? I don't do large projects. The Mac Pro is out of my price range.
View 5 Replies View RelatedWell, till the upgrade to FCPX 10.1.3 i have problems with importing footage from my Sony VG30 ( .MTS AVCHD files). From the past, i just copy the file from the SD card on the computer and then import it in FCPX. When i do that, i can't import it, but there are audio bugs (parasite sounds).From the past, that method also work on FCPX 10.1.1 but now i'm on 10.1.3 i can't see the content of the SDCard, arriving to AVCHD folder, FCPX will no more import or recogniste it as video media.Â

Just updated to 10.1.2. My typical workflow is as follows:Â
1. Copy AVCHD folder (with all files and file structure) from a SD Card to ext HD
2. Import AVCHD folder (with all files and file structure) from ext HD to FCXÂ
But all of a sudden, when I look to import new footage that I just copied to my ext HD, I no longer have an option to import an entire AVCHD folder (with the file in it). FCX doesn't even show the AVCHD folders on my ext HD.Â
HOWEVER -Â When I copy a newly created AVCHD file to my desktop, FCX sees those files (though I don't have the option to import and entire folder filled with the AVCHD files).Â
I have an entire ext HD full of archived AVCHD folders from SD cards. I thought this was a good way to have back up files (I also have these AVCHD folders on another back up cloud drive), but now it looks like I can't even access them with the new FCX update.Â
Our company just bought a Canon Vixia HF R52 camcorder so we can shoot instructional videos, edit, then upload to YouTube for our customers to access. This camcorder has dual recording in AVCHD and MP4. The guy doing the recording and the guy doing the editing live on opposite sides of the country, so the files will need to be uploaded to a website for sharing. Â
Question 1:Â Will the AVCHD files be too large to upload to a file sharing site or is it better to use MP4?Â
Question 2: Which version of Final Cut can handle AVCHD the best, Final Cut Pro 4.0.1 or Final Cut Pro X?
I am desperate to get some HD AVCHD footage off my new(ish) camcorder on to my iMac.
Neither iMovie nor iMove 6HD can transcribe AVCHD so I recently bought Final Cut Express 4.0.
This package at least accesses the movies on the HDD on the camcorder, but when I use the Log and Transfer or Capture facilities Final Cut lets me select a clip but when it tries to transfer it the application just crashes.
everytime I try to install Final Cut Studio 2 on my Mac Book Pro (10.6.2), I get this message:
The installer is damaged.
The installer can't open the package. There may be a problem with file ownership or permissions.

I import clips from a flash memory drive (the one attached to Sony NX5U camera). The drive is connected with USB cable. All clips imported are fine except one. The problematic one is in the AVCHD category in the browser and has a little camera icon on the bottom left of it's thumbnail. I cannot share the project containing that clip (there is a message that says:''this Item cannot be shared while it is still referencing media on the camera''). What does that icon mean and how do I import the clip properly ? I tried importing the clip again and it does the same thing... Â

I'm trying to install Final Cut Studio (6.0.1) on a C2D MBP running Snow Leopard (10.6).
This is my third attempt, after restarting and then shutting down and resetting PRAM, and the install keeps getting hung up on "Running package scripts..."
Installer is responsive, it's just getting stuck for some reason.
Anyone else having this issue?
I'm trying to import sony fs-700 video into fcpx. I haven't had any problem until today. For some reason it just shows the file structure and the AVCHD video file and won't let me import.Â

Is it possible to change the default behaviour of wiki calendars to be hidden instead of visible. I have a wiki with a calendar with quite may calendars in it. The problem is that it gets very clotted when all event in all of them are shown. You can untick the box next to the calendar to hide it, but the problem is that this does not stay after a refresh or logout when viewing via a webbrowser. If I use the iCal client, a hidden calendar stays hidden (in iCal, not on web)
What I would like to do is change so "hidden" or "unchecked" is the default on the server.Â
On a client using iCal the setting for Checked or Unchecked is stored in :Â
user/Library/Calendars/C9BE5C0A-6EED-48D7-97F8-6DB02EA6A55A.calendar/Info.plist (your numbers will be different ) And the specific command in info.plist is:

As an alternative to change the default behaviour on the server for all calendars, changing this setting for each of the calendars would be possible if I only could find out how!?
What is the best software for converting AVCHD files to Mac? I can download off of my Canon Camcorder, but the file size is tremendous. 32 MBs in AVCHD converted into almost 500 MBs on my iMac.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI recently purchased a Panasonic Lumix DMC-Zs7, & I am reading about it's video formats. It shoots AVCHD lite movies and motion jpg movies. I would like to be able to burn these raw movie files unedited to blank DVDs, so my family can view them right away, in the excitement of filming, they are eager to see the results. They do not like to wait for me to do the complex & tedious process of video editing with titles etc, to play. Being able to just burn the raw files for immediate viewing relives me of the burden of complex video editing, of which I do not enjoy very much, & makes family happy, to get the video out of the camera to the DVD player & TV. We have a Philips DVD player that says it can play Divx movies, & an analog tube TV.
So is there a quick painless way that I can get the raw files out of the camera and onto DVD for viewing on a TV. Or is the raw material only viewable on the camera & computer?If the only way to get this material to DVD is by complex video editing, I could be stuck editing literally hours of footage that my family likes to film, they have the film bug, & like to film everything.
Is it possible to write a workflow that can select files that are contained inside a folder package?
I am trying to automate a file copy of VMWare fusion 3 files to a windows machine on the network but I cannot seem to get any of the finder actions to give me an option to get inside the package.
Why do they store files in that library package and not in Finder?? This really drives me crazy and I feel like there has to be some sort of benefit that I'm not seeing. It looks like in Aperture I can choose to import photos to folders that are outside of the Library but you still have to manually choose where etc. It seems like in a perfect world, the files would show up exactly as the do in iPhoto, organized in folder by the Events that they reside in. And I can't even ctrl-click a picture in Aperture and say "Show in Finder" or anything! The reason I'm trying to do this is so that I can upload pictures to Facebook, as the Facebook uploader built into both Apps are extremely limited.

I then decided to reformat the drive using disk utility and try a clean install. I then got this error and I'm stuck and have no clue what to do now: "The installer can't extract files from the package for BaseSystem. Contact the software manufacturer for assistance." I have never encountered anything like this before.

I select the folder, hit cmd+f, I can see the folder selected, i type name matches *.avi hit enter and nothing. I try avi only and nothing. I try holidays and hit enter and nothing.
After converting my mod file to mp4 then uploading it to final cut pro the quality is really bad and jumpy.
I used MPEG streamclip... The quality is good after the mod - mp4 conversion it's only after i import it to final cut pro that the quality becomes really bad.
I don't have this problem when i am importing other files just the mod-mp4 converted ones.

I used Final Cut Pro when I was in college and when I graduated in 2010, I bought Final Cut Express 4.0. I recently bought Final Cut Pro 10.1.3 two days ago and I am having trouble opening up my old Final Cut Express 4.0 files. When I do go to open up these files they only open up with Final Cut Express and I always get the message: file's format is too new for this version of the application. Â

My Panasonic GH4 camera records UHD in either .Mov or MP4. I choose .Mov.Â
The newer Pansonic FX1000 camera only records UHD in MP4. I use Mpeg Streamclip and Toast Titanium, neither of which will recognise a MP4 file from the GH4.Â
Any file converter that will convert MP4 4K/UHD to .Mov 4K/UHD.Â
(I know FCPX will handle both "formats" but I need to convert outside of a main editing program)Â

So every time I got to edit my movie in FCP i lose 3 GBS of space... I have multiple render files for my project. Do i only need one? Can I delete all of them and create a render file after that so I only have one. Does it auto create render files? Does it delete stuff in the project if you delete it?
