- faces now means that one cannot be in a crowd and hope to pass un-noticed. If someone knows you, has you as a "face" in iphoto, most probably you will be recognized in a crowd. So our general public life is now more "noticed"
- places means that if you have gps enabled phone, you may no longer be able to say you are somewhere, as the GPS will quite precisely put you in the correct location on the map.
So if these features are positive in some ways, they can actually compromise your privacy. For example, there is not way to tell iPhone not to geo-tag a photo.

Mar 3, 2009Has anyone else noticed that if you clear your history, past sites (based on your history) still show up in Top Sites? Anyone else think this kinda blows the whole idea of "clearing your history" if you do it for privacy reasons. Anyone know how to clear out your top sites?

Nov 27, 2010I got my first Mac yesterday after years of crappy Window PCs....the lower end 15 Mac Pro. I had to get Office to make it compatible with PCs otherwise I would have got iWork. I also use Firefox as my web browser. and i know i dont need antivirus but i would like some type of protection. so my question is: what free programs would protect you against privacy and personal issues such as data or spyware? And against Microsoft Office viruses that it brings in? And I know people don't like Java and you should block it?

Dec 29, 2010I'm new to the whole mac thing and got my first mac (an iMac) just 2 days ago. A whole new learning experience.
I've downloaded and am running uTorrent. uTorrent is showing in the dock, with the text and the small "light" underneath it to show the app is running. However there is no icon, just space. Also in the applications folder, there seems to be a standard icon ("There's no icon, so we'll use this standard icon for the application").
I've attached a screenshot of how it looks in the dock.
I know the uTorrent app has an icon, it was showed right when I downloaded the app and I haven't changed anything, but now it's gone. How do I get it back?
Mac Mini :: UTorrent Won't Close When Trying To Quit?
May 1, 2012For some reason, my uTorrent will not close after I decide to quit it. Therefore, I have to got to Force Quit to close it which it does. However, when I turn on uTorrent again, the files I was downloading before will start over like they did not download at all. So far I tried to update my uTorrent but it is up to date. Now I could turn it off by pressing the power button but I do not want to do that to ruin my Mac Mini.

Jun 10, 2010I'm having trouble with my upload speed, it isn't my network it must be my macbook because I've had excellent upload speeds on my PC and ****** on my mac. It rarely uploads and when it does it's usually slow. I use uTorrent 1.0 for my macbook. Anyone else have this same issue?
(Also all of my torrent downloads are legal and not copyrighted)
MacBook Pro :: Looking For A Privacy Screen ?
Dec 23, 2009I have a late model 2009 unibody 13" Macbook Pro. For most of my work laptops (pc's) I have always purchased a screen filter for protecting my work when others are around. I am trying to find one for my macbook that allows me to remove it if needed and still allow the macbook to shut. With this rubber edge that goes around the screen it seems there is no product that fits in the gap between the keys and the screen while letting the laptop shut.
I now carry around one from my pc's but now I have to take it out of the laptop, shut the laptop and then make room for this film in my bag. All while hoping that it doesn't get bent or damaged. At $50 it's a risk that I don't want to spend money on again.The one I am using now is made by 3M and its great. It's just size for a 17" screen...so it looks odd.

Or can admin accounts access all the info on the computer? I've heard horror stories here of peoples' photos being looked at, FB profiles accessed, etc.

Software :: Spotlight Forgets Privacy?
Nov 5, 2008I have two external drives which I do not wish Spotlight to index. I add both drives to the privacy list in the system preference panel, but every time I reboot (usually for a system update), Spotlight ties up my computer for several hours indexing these two drives again!
How do I convince Spotlight to honour the privacy settings on a clean reboot?
Is this some sort of timing issue where the external drives may not be ready when Spotlight starts, so it removes them from the list, and later when they are ready Spotlight notices them and processes them?

Feb 20, 2012What's up in Safari 5.1.3 Cookies. After removing all the website data, I recently chose "Block Cookies Always" After opening "Yahoo" in Safari, I looked at the "Privacy Preference Pane" again. It now reads "Block cookies Always" and says 37 websites stored cookies or other data. I looks like the choice to block cookies has little effect on Safari. Is there any way to protect yourself from unwanted cookies? By the way, in order to sign in to the Apple discussion website, cookies must be enabled.

May 19, 2012I've just discovered that I can't access the Firewall tab in the Security & Privacy settings pane. I click on it, but nothing happens. I'm pretty sure that I was able to do this before and turn my firewall on - I get asked sometimes if I can allow an app to receive incoming connections.

Apr 28, 2012A few days ago my email was hacked into which sent a spam email to all my contacts. I changed my password to that account, warned everyone in my contacts, and haven't had a problem with email since. However, I tried to do the 'delete all cookies' again and when I go to safari/preferences/privacy...there is nothing on that screen under that tab. Not even a question mark. I changed my history items to be removed every day from every week but don't think that would be the issue.Â

Nov 15, 2009how to not have the disc image appear on my desktop when I open applications that I downloaded. For example I downloaded wondershare dvd ripper and everytime I open it the disc image shows up on my desktop and I cant eject it without quitting the application. This is now happening with every application I open and it never happened before.
