I seem to remember seeing an app a little while ago, that would keep a folder of your choice synced with a folder on an ftp-server of your choice, but I was stupid enough not to bookmark the page back then. And now I can't find it.

Well it happens to be on a server and I am trying to iron out what happens when you completely trash the system and start over. This problem occured in a subdirectory on one folder. It (the triangles ->) are there for all the other folders. However, there is one folder I had on a backup (backup, meaning still being a previous version of Lion) that at one point that any group of folders I place into it. there is no browsing triangle that lets you go down furthur. Yes you can open the folder and go further in, so its not prefs that I am aware of.
At this level...Triangles Here Still? Triangles still here. (Must say in Cookie Monster voice if you've watched the "Cookies done yet" bit you might giggle or at least be mildly annoyed.)
If you browse from this part of the hierarchy you get the expected behavior...Triangles Here Still? Triangles still here. however if you open the folder here is what you get...Triangles Here Still? (uh oh).

it's a little trick that most people know, but you can download flv's and other things directly from the safari browser just by accessing the activities window. however, after the first few flvs i've downloaded, all the rest are out of sync by a few seconds. does anyone know the problem or have a solution? i am using quicktime armed with perian to watch the flv's. i dont think the quicktime player is the issue for the first two flv's i've downloaded from facebook work finr, it's the just ones i download recently that are messing up. anyone have a clue?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI added about 20 new contacts and edited about 10 other contacts on my iPhone since the last sync. I just hooked my iPhone up to iTunes, went to "Info" and checked the sync contact field. Then I synced it, but no matter what I do, the new contacts dont show up on my Address Book on my Mac. It asked me for one duplicated entry, where I had to choose one and I choose one. It even says Sync Okay in iTunes.

Scenario 1: Download a new podcast episode on your Mac/iTunes. Listen to 20 minutes. Sync to iPhone. When you listen to it on your iPhone, it starts at the beginning...not 20 minutes in like it should.
Scenario 2: Download a new podcast episode on your Mac/iTunes. Sync to iPhone. When you listen to it on your iPhone for the first time, it starts randomly somewhere in the middle...not at the start like it should.
This bug didn't exist with iTunes 9. The bug appeared in iTunes 10 and still exists as of version 10.1.1 that was released a couple of days ago.

Any ideas on how to get movement on this from Apple? Already reported it as a bug online as well as posted in the thread on the discussion forum. This bug is PAINFUL for heavy podcast listeners.
When I sync my iPhone and iPod with iTunes, I get an error that says some obscure video can't be synced because the device doesn't support the file. I've included a picture, and have searched for the file, but can't find it! I would delete it if I could find it.

Four separate folders. I recently got an Airport Extreme for the sole purpose of accessing my photos wireless. I have a roommate in my apartment, who I plan to share the drives with, however, I would like to create some kind of read/write rule so that he cannot access anything on the (PHOTOS) folder. I've tried the app, "Hide Folders", which is great, but will not let me work on the folders while the folders are hidden. I need the PHOTOS folder to be visible, but not accessible by anything other than myself.
Im trying to run an rsync command which copies a backup of a server services folder using a remote computer. The backup folder of services resides on the main system disk.

I'm using mac os x server as SMB file sharing server and i got some issues with permissions.
I try to use POSIX permissions. I put :
owner -> read & write
group -> read & write
other -> read only
And after propagate these permissions it's working fine.
Until an user create a folder or a file and i see that the permissions of it are :
owner -> read & write
group -> read only
other -> read only
I have set default permissions on new files and folder for this sharepoint with the great permissions for the group. But it didn't work..Someone have a solution ?

I purchased the latest MacBook Pro 17" in March 2012 in Australia. Because of "screen issues" I had to take my computer back to the Apple Store where they reinstalled Lion OS 10.7.3. Using Time Capsule I put retrieved all my information. However, I have noticed that my home folder has my married name and I want it to show my maiden name as I am now divorced. My account name is correct, it is just the home folder name.

I am at a printing company with 4 Mac workstations (10.5.8) working from a Mac server (10.4.11). The system has worked great for a couple years until the last month or so. Now when working at a workstation and opening more than one folder on the server, both windows revert to the server level. It drives me crazy when I need to copy something from one folder to another. Now I have to have only one window open, copy file to desktop, open new folder, copy or move file to new folder, delete desktop file. Permissions have been repaired on all stations and aliases have been recreated.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a lion server set up on a mac mini. I have set up an OD to manage network accounts through the server app. My workflow for setting up users is:
1. using the server app add a new user
2. I have a home folders users directory set up under file sharing and set to be available for home directories - so I select this share as the home folder for the user
3. I user the WGM app to then set up mobiility through the preferences tab to create always and to sync the home and preferences
4. I check that the home folder is set correctly under the user account in WGM
When I log in to the client machine (regardless of whether or not I have first logged in on the server or not) the client presents an error saying that it can not log in and can not access the server at that time. The client stays on the user login screen.
If I then change the users home folder on the server to local I can then log in on the client machine and create the account. If I elect not to create the home folder on the client machine the rainbow ball of death occurs and the machine hangs. So I instead log in and select to create the local home folder. I then log out of the user and change the user setting on the server to point the home folder to the correct share instead of on the local setting.
I then log back on to the client machine and can log in without any problems. HOwever, I get an error message if I try to sync saying that the home folder is not accessible. This is despite the fact that the home folder, and the server et al, can be mounted in finder and I can copy and paste documents etc to and from the server. I have full and expected access to the server and the associated storage. For some reason home sync continues to say that the home folder can not be found (in fact that the server can not be found) whenever I try to sync. I have the OD bound to the client machine and have no problems seeing the users and being able to access the OD from the client machine.

I'm running OS X Server 10.6.8 and I created a new group in Workgroup Manager and I'd like to share a group folder for that group. I created the share and when I go to set the path for the group folder, Workgroup Manager keeps sticking the actual name of the group onto the end of the folder name I'm using. I have an example below since I know it is probably hard to understand what I'm trying to describe. On the group shared tab in Workgroup Manager, it asks for a Path name. My group name is Test and the folder I want to appear on the dock for this group is called Help. For the Path name I enter Help, since that is the name of the folder I want to appear. When I save the changes and go back to look at the information I put in, the Path now says Help/Test and when I log in, I have a question mark on my dock instead of the Help folder. This used to work in 10.4 without any problems. Now 10.5 & 10.6 want to call the group shared folder whatever the name of the actual group is.

From the links in the System Preferances panel, I was able to see the 'computer' web site, but not the 'personal' one. Rather than the 403 I was getting, I now just see 'Safari cant open the page [URL] because Safari cant connect to the server macintosh.lan.'running the apachectl configtest commend. I did that, and got the following:

I have turned on File Sharing on the server, and having logged into my iDisk via Finder, I thought I could drag the folder from the Finder window to the Public folder icon on Lion Server, but no luck.
I am signed into Lion Server as the admin, so what should I do? I'm trying to copy those files from the iDisk before time runs out and Apple scrubs iDisk!

After installing Lion, I can no longer move program icons from my applications folder to a sub folder. When I do, it makes a copy and leave the original in the applications folder. When I then try to delete the icon in the applications folder it tells me it's required by the OS and won't let me delete. I'm forced to keep certan applications such as Time Machine and Stickies in the application folder.

This will be similar to the default applications folder that shows in the dock, but without all the extra files & folders - just a list of applications.
I can do this by esily by just having a smart folder of applications showing only type=application.
However, I would still like to have utilities in a sub-folder.
If thats not possible, then it would be OK to have 2 seperate smart folders, 1 for apps excluding utilities & 1 for utilities only.
Is there some way in the smart folder options i can exclude a sub directory?
At work I work on a mac, but our files are on shared windows network drives. There's one particular drive which causes our mac users problems. It doesn't happen on all folders/files, but on some of them the following happens.I try to move a folder to another location, but then suddenly my mac asks for the system password. I fill that in and press ok, but nothing is moved. The folder is still in the same location. This only happens om certain folders and the funny thing is: when I try it on of the following days, the problem for that folder is gone and I can move the folder to the folder I wanted it to move.
But in the meantime there are other folders which can't be moved.Support - being not into Mac strangely enough - says it's a Mac problem and I should update to 10.7. It happens only to me and my colleagues at the place/office where I work. The windows server is at some place else so everything goes via internet.I keep insisting it's some kind of permissions thingy. Support says it's a Mac thing. What can be the problem and how can I make it clear to them that is isn't a mac thing?
