Aug 21, 2010I'm making a book of my holiday, its going great until I came to the map. The pointer always starts in Sydney, a hassle but I can work with it. My problem is as we went to Seymour in Victoria Australia, I type in Seymour and I'm given a dozen USA possibilities but I'm offered a search for my Seymour option. I take this, starting in Sydney and I drag the pointer to Seymour in Victoria (It says Seymour on the map) but in my book it changes the name to Mitchell. It does this for a number of stops. I could probably cope with one but when you go to 50 towns and you're showing off your clever Mac and all people go is I've never heard of Mitchell wheres that and I'm sure you can guess what my answer is, I don't know I've never been there. Particularly when the photo has Seymour Railway station on the photo.

May 8, 2010So if i import my pictures to iPhoto but not copying them to the iPhoto Library what happens if i edit a picture in Photoshop will it corrupt it in iPhoto? Or if i edit a picture by selecting photoshop through iPhoto will it change the image thats in the original location or will iPhoto create a new picture and store it somewhere else?

OS X :: Desktop Folders/All Disappeared Along With All File Names
Jan 28, 2009I restarted my macbook pro (10.5.6) last night after really slow internet speeds, and when it booted back up all my desktop folders disappeared. I can't even find a single file name anymore anywhere on the harddrive.
Apple support said they've seen the desktop directory glitch with the finder, but we could not reverse whatever happend and they suggested I spend $100 bucks on Disc Warrior.
How am I going to find about 1700 files????? My time machine drive stopped backing up two months ago, ggggrrrrrrr -right when I needed it eh?!
Does anyone have any ideas what I can try to get back the file names and folders?
I know the data is still on the drive, just with no allocations.
I've repaired all disc permissions 3 times-it keeps having to repair them everytime I reboot.Terry

Dec 28, 2009I have been handling my family's photos for some time now, using iPhoto on my mac. Now I am about to buy a ReadyNas. I want to store the iPhoto library there and give the rest of the family access to it. The problem is that I am the only mac-user, all the others have windows.
The plan is that they will use Picasa when reading from the iPhoto library. There is a problem though. I am afraid that it will be all messy since iPhoto stores both modified pictures and the originals. I addition to this the subfolders to these main folders have got inconsistent names since the photos were taken before I started using iPhoto. The result will be that the person using Picasa will see tons of folders with just a few pictures in them.

So I'd like to move them across to my secondary partition, but to still work normally.

Applications :: IPhoto Picture Folders Disappeared - Picasa Ate Them?
Jul 14, 2010I have had my Macbook Pro for only about 2 months, and I'm relatively new to this Apple world. I've had no problems with using iPhoto and uploading photos to other websites... UNTIL last night! I downloaded Picasa for Mac (I've been trying to find a good photo sharing website that doesn't cost me money. I use gmail, so this seemed reasonable.)... and I swear, something has happened. I'm fairly certain it is connected with downloading the Picasa plug-in.
I have searched high and low in every corner of this Macbook, and my picture FOLDERS are nowhere to be found. My photos are still in iPhoto, and the APPLICATION shows up in my Pictures folder, but no folders with the photos themselves. Does that make sense? The photos are in iPhoto, but not stored in any folders anywhere on the computer. This is rather distressing. Has anyone heard of this happening before??? Or does anyone have any advice for me??? I can't share any of my photos anymore until I find a way to fix this! I keep trying to upload photos, but they are nowhere to be found when I do so!
PowerPC :: Organizing Images In IPhoto With Appropriate File Names
Sep 25, 2010Every time I try to "share" (move them out) my iPhoto files and move them out of iPhoto to another folder, if the numbers happen to be the same from a previous time, it will tell me they already exist and do I want to replace those photos with the new ones. The problem is they are not the same image, and I don't want to loose the older ones by replacing them with the new ones. How do I avoid this? I've tried to rename them in iPhoto and it still says they are the same number. I'm trying to organize my thousands of images.

The software included with the frame (from Brookstone) has both PC and Mac apps. If I go into my users/*name*/Pictures folder, I don't see all the photos I would normally see in iPhoto'11.

Jul 29, 2010I've been using cyberduck with only a few hiccups, but recently, I needed to create an ftp account for one folder. However, whenever I try to log into this new account it refuses to log in! I try the main ftp, and it works fine, then I disconnect and try the alternative It says that the "login failed" and then keeps prompting me to type in the password- which I do over and over until....well, you get the picture. Can anyone tell me what the problem is?

Mar 7, 2008I have just recently decided to take the photos from my MacBook to my father's Dell to backup my files. However, most of the folders have slashes like this - "/", and windows will not accept these, so I had to rename every single folder (hundreds). What I did was just type in something random. Anyways, the pictures in my iPhoto Library show up for a split second and then they turn to white perforated boxes with exclamation marks because the source of the image obviously cannot be found.

Aug 9, 2010I'm constantly taking pictures and have finally bought a 1 TB hard drive to store my photos in. The only problem is that, a few months ago, I was in a crunch for space on my Mac and needed to move my pictures to a different (older) external hard drive for the time being until I was able to buy a new one. In the process of copying all of my pictures from my laptop to my old external hard drive, I went to Macintosh HD>Users>Username>Pictures>iPhoto Library and clicked on "Show Package Contents" to open up the actual picture files in my iPhoto. (I know now - not the best method) So I copied all of my files to my old external hard drive from the "Originals" and "Modified" folders on my Mac.
Is there a way I can move all of my pictures back to my iPhoto library so that it only shows the pictures in regular iPhoto method? (as in, iPhoto displays the original photo, but if modified, iPhoto displays the modified photo and keeps the original in the background folders). I tried to copy and paste the Original and Modified folders contents from my old external hard drive into my respective Original and Modified folders on my Mac and then open iPhoto to see if it would automatically register it, but no luck. Right now, if I were to simply import all of the pictures, I would get 4 copies of each photo, since I shoot in RAW+JPEG, and I have close to 70 GB of photos, so going through all of those individually would not be fun. My ultimate goal is to combine the files in my current iPhoto with my existing photos on my old hard drive and be able to use my new hard drive as my main library in iPhoto in order to free up a lot of space on my Mac.

Jun 9, 2012Random keys on my keyboard have stopped working, or I have to press them really hard... right now I am just copy pastin letters from the internet... this is happening with my wireless keyboard I got in 2010 with my iMac computer. My iPhoto will not Stop loading. It just keeps loading... and there is nothing on the sidebar? And My side folders are gone?! I noticed since my iPhoto stopped working so did my side folders?!

Mar 19, 2005I'm on a G4 laptop, running 10.3.8 and iTunes 4.7.1 I'm connected through a Motorola SURFboard SB5100 with cable, no router beyond that My problem popped up approx. 4-5 weeks ago. I'm not sure exactly when, or what I did to cause it. But I think I updated to 10.3.8 from 10.3.7 around that time.
Whenever, I click "Buy Song" or "Sign-In" in iTunes, i get this error:
"iTunes could not connect to the Music Store.
An unknown error occurred (-9813)"

OS9/OS8/System 7 :: Applications Only For Root Are Displayed Even With User Login
Apr 20, 2012I am using MBP Pro with OSx 10.7.3. I use admin account. Recently I enabled root account and then disabled it back again. Since then I am seeing applications only for root and not for admin even with admin login. If I go to /Users/<admin username>/Library/Preferences, I can see that the applications has relevant files over there. When I looked more carefully I observed that, I am able to see the applications installed for the root only and not for the admin user. Is there any way to corrrect this?

OS X :: IPhoto - Pictures From Two Events Folders Opened Upon Restart
Aug 1, 2009I have tried checking with people at Apple store but they have failed to come up with the solution. Here is the problem everytime I restart my computer all the pictures from two of my events folders in the iphoto opens up at same time, meaning I have around 25 pictures or so opens up upon restart. I need to close them by using the function command and Q to close all at once. Often Time I hook up my computer to give presentation at work and its quite embarrassing that every one can see my pictures.

Aug 30, 2009Just got a new Mac Pro and used migration assistant... it didn't seem to go as smoothly as i remember it did last time...
My iphoto and itunes libraries did not copy over. I put my old computer in target disk mode but i can't even open the music folder or the photo folder in the user of my old mac. When i try, it tells me that "The folder "Music" can't be opened because you don't have th permission to see its contents"...
... and so i go to info and try to change the permissions to read/write, but nothing changes...
how do i get into these folders to i can copy them?

Mar 5, 2009I have a server setup with Quicktime Streaming Server. I have installed Quicktime Broadcaster/Quicktime Player on my MacBook. My problem is that I am only able to broadcast as the root user. Also I can only receive a broadcast via Quicktime Player 7.6 as the root user. Is the firewall blocking the rtsp protocol? I am completely stuck and befuddled.

Nov 28, 2010Just made the move to a Mac yesterday. I have searched on-line and in forums, but I can't find the answer to my problem. I am importing 500 gig of photos which have been obsessively organized on my pc. When I import them (only 1.5 gig this first time), the images are being moved from their original folders and organized by date in iPhoto. I'm sure there is a setting somewhere that I need to tweak, but I haven't been able to find it. Having looked closer, I see there are multiple folders for each year, with seemingly no logic to the pictures that are placed in each.

May 5, 2009After opening Mac HD folder, made the mistake of attempting to change name next to house icon (Home? perhaps) along left spine (spine that includes 'Desktop' 'Documents' 'Applications' etc.). The computer started to run as if adjusting to the name change. From that point on, iphoto/tunes/aperture starting opening as if it was the first time asking for set-up preferences.
No photos/music can be found in the folders. I can still see my folders on the external hard drive that the tunes/photo are on, but they will not open when I open the programs. Any suggestions on fixing the links? I tried in vain to change the name back. The error message says that the previous name is already taken.

Nov 7, 2010I did a bunch of googling, and couldn't find an answer to this or how to do this except with windows-based mp3tag apps.
I have a collection of .WAV files with no tags or filenames at all, but they are all nested in folders that are named with the album the files are from. All the actual .WAV file names are just Track01, Track02, etc. Obviously if I imported these as-is it would be a disorganized disaster.
I am trying to import them into my iTunes library as ALAC lossless-compressed files.
All I would like to do is have the imported files tagged with the folder as the album name.
I can't seem to find any tag editor that will do this on a Mac. I don't want to sit here for hours in iTunes manually entering the album tag for each imported song, that would take ages. Are there any options, or do I brew a pot of coffee...?
