I'm trying to start my first project with iMovie and have watched the tutorial videos. I have a sony DCR-HC32 which uses mini dv tapes. I have followed the directions from the tutorial to the letter but when I plug my camera into my computer and turn it on the import screen doesn't come up. Nothing happens at all. I've tried launching iMovie and using the import command but nothing seems to work.

I'm new on Mac - just bought the new Air about a month ago What I want to do is to have iTunes manage all my media, since well...since it's supposed to do this. I have my media storred on a NAS, both music and ripped movies.
Music was imported into iTunes without any problems at all, but for the life of me I can't get the movies to import. They are ripped in an .mp4 format, so iTunes should be able to play them, but for some reason I can't import them at all. I've tried by simply dragging them into iTunes, and via the "Open.." function in iTunes as well. Same result - no imported file, and no error messages.
Am I missing something here? Shouldn't I be able to simply import and play them via iTunes?
Doesn't seem to matter if they are placed on the desktop either.

After several hours my mac is running linked to my LCD screen through MiniDisplay Port - VGA connector, Front Row simply doesn't start. It fades to black for a while but then it immediately fades back to the desktop.
I uninstalled every application might have affected Front Row (Caffeine, LastFm, TV Row) but it was useless. I even tried to fix permissions in the Disk Utility, but it didn't help.
I have a number of folders on my desktop that contain movie files, jpeg files, you name it. When I try to import from the desktop, the import media window only shows the files and not the folders they are in! I have included a screen shot of what my window looks like when I select the desktop to import media. Again, I have a number of folders that don't show up, only the files in them. This is maddening when trying to import files! I know i can move the files to my hard drive but i am used to desktop work flow.
View 3 Replies View RelatedSince upgrading to Snow Leopard, I can no longer import P2 footage. I get the stop sign and error: no data.In the import window I can play the clip and everything is fine, but when I add to the clip to the import queue it just times out.
Any thoughts? Is it somehow related to Quicktime being updated by Snow Leopard?

I recently purchased an MP3 album from Amazon, which downloaded fine. Unlike previous times, however, the Amazon Downloader app didn't load the music into my iTunes library. I tried to manually add the album to my iTunes Library, with no luck. I was able to load the album into my iPhone Music app by dragging and dropping on my iPhone device in iTunes (after turning off iTunes Match).. If I double-click on the songs on my hard drive, they will play in iTunes, but do not import.
I am running Mac OS 10.7.3, iTunes 10.6.1 (7) and have iTunes Match active on my computer.

I have a homemade DVD someone sent me to prep for the web. Right now I just have iMovie available on my system (not enough room for FCP). The DVD automatically plays in DVD Player but when I try to import it into iMovie I see a progress menu/bar that drops down, disappears, then I have nothing and the timeline is empty and the clip I dragged/dropped it on is empty (well white from selecting it first).
It plays in DVD Player but NOT in QuickTime. QT throws up the error "Error Opening Movie. Movie could not be opened."
I've tried to import dvd into imovies. (its some video I shot of my band) but all the files were erased so how do I import them as I wish to make a video clip from them

I have searched the online and tried several options. I tried publishing it to a folder on my iBook, copied it to the iMac but can't find a way to import it into my iWeb on my iMac.
I have archived tons of email messages from my Yahoo mailbox. I got this as a zip and folder with several .eml files. I was wondering how do I import these? I tried dragging it but that didn't work! Neither there is an option to import eml messages in mail. I can open the eml messages though. I cannot import them!

View 8 Replies View RelatedI'm in the process of making a presentation in iMovie, and I am using photos and movies from iPhoto. The pictures work just fine, but I can not get my videos to import into iMovie. I've tried restarting both iPhoto and iMovie, and I've had no luck. The files are .mov, which I know are compatible with iMovie because I've used them before. However I did a test video and it was MPEG-4, and that imported just fine into iMovie. So it appears it may be a format issue but I've used .mov in the past so that has me stumped. I could re render the video in MPEG-4, but the video was a rendering of the whole building in HD, so it took about 24 hours to render, so I don't want to do that again. If I do have to convert it, what program can I use to convert it?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI read through the information provided by iMovie, and searched around on Google, but I'm not getting anywhere. I have iMovie '08, and have never used it until today. I tried to import some videos (Mp4) that I have on my computer in order to edit them. I imported them, selected the project to import them to, where to save, etc. Pressed import. iMovie said it was importing the video and then uploading thumbs or whatever. After that, nothing. Nothing shows up in iMovie, and I don't know how to access the video clips, or how to make them transfer successfully. Am I doing anything wrong?

I have an Apple Lossless file over five hours long in iTunes. When I try to drag it into Garageband, it acts as though it is importing, but then tells me the ".aiff file is empty". But if I play the file in Quicktime, iTunes and in the iTunes section of Garageband, it plays fine.
I am using the 30 day Demo version of Aperture3 (awaiting the arrival of my ordered copy). Apple claims it to be "fully functional for 30 days, and I believe them, so I don't think (but can't rule out) that this is the source of my issue. I have imported my iPhoto Library (approx 20GB), not by reference, but actually copied the photos into the Aperture Library (as evidenced by the fact that it's physical size is approx 32GB). After that I did about a days work setting up faces and places for my many projects before I discovered the following: When I look at the metadata (General Category) for any photo, it shows my project source as being in my iPhoto library; not as I expected in the aperture library. I was hoping 1) to be able to trash the iPhoto library after the import & 2) not lose the day's work I put into places and faces. One more note, iPhoto (as expected) does not see these changes. Any ideas how to change the reference to the aperture library, is it possible that after applying a new serial number(when my paid copy of aperture arrives) that this will rectify itself? One more note; in the preferences (general tab) the library is correctly referenced as the Aperture3 library.

For some reason it will not let me add whole folders of pfd's using import (apple+O). I can import if I select a bunch but its time consuming since I have levels and levels of PDF's. An easier way of importing them. Also was this intended or maybe a bug?

View 4 Replies View RelatedFor the past few days, I have been trying to import some photos from my Canon Rebel XT. The symptom is that after all photos are loaded from the camera, iPhoto displays 1 photo remaining and fails to complete. After a while, the camera times out and shuts off. iPhoto will now appear to be done, but in fact if you try to quit, it will refuse saying the import isn't finished. The only way to quit is to force a quit. While this is happening CPU will be 100% with 30% to the system, and 70% to iPhoto. You can leave this for days and it still will not complete.
I have tried importing from the camera directly, and directly from the compact flash with the same results.
I am running OSX 10.4.10 and iPhoto 6.0.6.
I am now dual booting with win7, and want to setup iTunes with win7. All my podcasts are on C drive and win7 is on D drive, just installed iTunes on D can I import my podcasts from the C drive some how?
