Applications :: IPhoto Info Button No Longer Shows EXIF Data
Feb 25, 2009
Is there a way to enable iPhoto '09 to show shutter speed, ISO, aperture, etc like the old one used to? I found this really useful. Now it just shows the date and a rating.
I don't want to use Aperture to manage my photo library because I only use Aperture for editing.
Can someone recommend me a good exif program for photos. One that merely mouse over the photo, right click with exif info as well as resize function. I'm using Safari.
Can anyone confirm or not if assigning keywords in iPhoto or Aperture 3, the keyword is actually written into the EXIF metadata of the file (JPEG) or whether it's just a reference within the application. I'm just starting out my organising, and want to know which one if any does write to the image itself, if neither does, any recommendations on a good photo management app that does write to the images metadata. I'd rather it write to the file, that way I'm not tied to the same application for life.
I have snow leopard (w/ all the most recent updates installed). And for some reason when I select "Get Info" from the Finder, the information pane opens but the section labeled "More info" contains only the most basic info about the relevant file. For example- PNG & JPEG files don't even display the image size (WxH).
I looked at a friends computer, running the same version of Snow Leopard, and when I go to Get Info it displays lots of relevant metadata, even for PSD, DNG and other file types. Can someone please tell me how to turn on the extended metadata support for Get Info (inspector)?
I have a large collection of ripped (TV-on-DVD that i own) mp4s. I want to add these to my iTunes library (space is a non-issue). I import them by adding them to the "automatically add to iTunes" folder. iTunes auto-magically adds them to the "Movies" section. At this point i can group-select, hit cmd-I, and change them to TV Shows. Easy! The only other piece of meta-data I would like to add is the episode number. Is there a quick way to do this? Or do i have to hit cmd-I, add episode #, hit OK button, select next episode, repeat....?
I'm a first timer so forgive if this has been dicussed already.
Can anyone tell me why some TV shows on iTunes which were previously available in HD, are now only available in SD?
Two examples are Legend of the Seeker and season 5 of Lost (the promo content was previously available in HD). Also when I tried to purchased episode 11 of Fringe in HD and in SD, I recieved a message stating "THE ITEM YOU TRIED TO BUY IS NO LONGER AVAILABLE".
Thought I'd start this thread for people to discover/add any info they have on what iPhoto Faces is doing behind the scenes to help with troubleshooting, since Apple doesn't have any preferences for Faces in the iPhoto GUI. This is only for people who like to understand what is happening behind the scenes. Please note this is not for everyone and anytime you do anything to your iPhoto library you risk corruption and should have a backup copy. What I've noticed so far:
- iPhoto scans the library the first time it opens, and creates 2 faces .db files with the iPhoto Library:
face_blob.db face.db
- iPhoto creates Faces thumbnails files and places them in the iPhoto Library/Data folder along with the other thumbnails it creates................
I have been using iTunes (windows desktop) and recently got a new laptop (windows again). I was able to quickly transfer my music via a dvd-r and flash-drive, and also was able to export/import my playlist quite easily. My question, now, is how can I preserve the play count and transfer it over? To clarify, what is the simplest way to transfer that info over, without having to download third party programs, etc. I am using iTunes 10 on both computers.
For some reason, since upgrading to iLife 2011. Whenever a new Event is created in iPhoto it doesn't create in the "Events" section. Only in Photos. Is anyone else experiencing this behavior? My latest "event" is October 2, but in Photos, the latest group in there is from today. can I delete the "events" then? are these two thing separate now?
I was previously running Leopard with iPhoto '08. With this setup all .mov format movies that I took with my digital camera imported into iPhoto along with the pictures. They showed up in thumbnail view along with the pictures and I could launch the movies in Quicktime by double-clicking on the movie thumbnail in iPhoto.
After upgrading to Snow Leopard (but still using iPhoto '08) the video thumbnails still show up, but double-clicking on them does nothing. Double-clicking on image thumbnails still opens the image as normal. I can still view the movies by right-clicking, selecting "show file," and then double-clicking on the movie thumbnail in Finder.
I saw this mentioned in a few other threads, but I thought perhaps it deserved its own thread. Anyone else having this problem? No matter what I do, iPhoto is convinced that I'm not connected to the Internet and refuses to do anything with Places. I recall telling iPhoto to feel free submitting my information to the net when I first ran it, but now I can't find any related settings in Preferences. Not sure what to do.
With my new DSLR/RAW shots, I've bloated iPhoto to over 105GB for just over 20,000 photos. Was doing housecleaning, deleting files and the "aw *****" moment hit where I deleted some i wanted. Went into TimeMachine and did a Restore to my external 2TB HD (FW800) as temp place. Now, when I went to delete that 105GB file started last night 10:30 pm, here 7.5 hr later: still churning away.....wtf did I do wrong??
In Path Finder and in Finder, when I look at the "SHARED" area on the left hand side of the screen, I don't see the other computers on my network as I used to. I've gone through all the usual configuration lists, but I cannot seem to find the one(s) that would impact what is shown under "SHARED".
I just got a 1TB Time Capsule and I will set it up today or tomorrow and I set up my in-laws yesterday and it wasn't to bad to set up. Now when I set mine up and I go to my in-laws and go on their network will my Macbook back up on there Time Capsule or do I have to turn off my Time Machine? My other question I know when my Macbook is off it's pretty safe from hackers, how safe is my info on the Time Capsule?
I've done a byte to byte clone of my original 320GB bootcamp drive to a 750GB drive (connected via USB). So I remove the 320GB from bay 4 (MacPro) and slot in the 750GB into bay 4. I fire up my MacPro hit the Option key during power up and all I get is an option to select my Mac drive not my new 750GB Windows drive.
So I boot into OSX (since I have no other option) and I can see my "Untitled" Windows drive on my desktop. I can select it and browse it and I see all my Windows files. Also, under System Preferences - Startup Disk, I can see my "Windows on Untitled" listed.
I had a bunch of movies that took with my digital camera that were always imported into iPhoto when I transferred my pictures into it. I used to just be able to click on them in iPhoto and the movie would open up and play. Now it seems that my movies are gone and all that I have of my movies is the first frame as a picture and nothing else. Their file extensions used to say .mov but now are .jpg. I've tried changing the extension back to .mov but no movie is there and the file sizes are not what a movie should be. I'm running Snow Leopard on a 13" Macbook Pro with newest version of iPhoto. I have quicktime X and Quicktime 7 installed.
I recently switched from a G5 to an Intel iMac. Now my Time Machine no longer shows dates of the backups and will not allow a restore of data. Is this an inherent problem switching between the two processors?
I have a MacBook. I changed nothing that I know of. Suddenly when I download files they say they're going to the Download folder but when I open the folder to retrieve (or clean out) old files, there's nothing visible. It appears the file is empty. I have no other option to choose from while downloading. They just automatically go to the folder. Yet the folder's empty.
What am I doing wrong? Where are the files? I do NOT have a Download folder in my deck. (Never have.)
How do I fix this? (I need to download files from work and many of them don't allow me to "Save" as.
My RSS Visualizer screen saver no longer displays 'Press the 1 key...', 'Press the 2 key...' etc below each headline like it used to. It's simply missing, but everything else works fine.
I actually use that feature to read the NY Times headlines, so I'd like to get it back. I searched for other people with the problem and found nothing.
Info: MacBook Pro 15" 2.4GHz, 4gb RAM, pre-unibody, Mac OS X (10.6.3)
I'm running out of storage on my computer so I would really like to work off an external hard drive for my iMovie projects. I've found a ton of videos showing how to do it in previous versions, but the button to select the hard drive no longer appears in the new version.
Info: MacBook Pro (Retina, 13-inch, Late 2012), OS X Mavericks (10.9.4)
This has happened to me twice in a week on two separate machines, with two separate discs. When inserted into the Mac, the "blank disc" window comes up, even though the disc is full of files. The "get info" window shows 8k of space taken up on the disc.
