Mar 31, 2010i seem to have the opposite issue to everyone else on here in that I replaced my logitech keyboard with a new mac aluminium extended wired keyboard and now when I hit the play button it no longer opens iTunes. All I could find here was people looking to turn off this feature in Snow Leopard....

I tried to de-authorize it and re-authorize it, but it still doesn't work. And it's not just this one episode, I just noticed I cant watch anything I have purchased in the past.

MacBook :: Handy Play / Pause Button For Itunes But Affects VLC As Well?
Aug 26, 2009I love using the play/pause button on my macbook when used with itunes, it's handy as ****. But the problem is, that it affects VLC as well, and it plays a video and the audio interrupts whatever music I'm listening to (even when no video is opened but vlc is running, it'll open my last played video and play that alongside the music). I never had this problem with the old version of vlc, but ever since updating, vlc has now been wired to work with the friggen play/pause button.
I tried looking in VLC preferences to see if it could be disabled but couldn't find anything regarding the mac play/pause keyboard button. Any ideas on how I can stop vlc from being affected by this key? And I'm not keen on the idea of going back to the older version unless it's my only option.
OS X :: Apple Remote Pause Play Button Keeps Opening ITunes?
Sep 16, 2009I'm sure this has already been posted, and I apologize if it has, but a couple of searches turned up empty.Anyway, I just discovered this today and I'm praying this is a bug and not a "feature". When you click the pause/play button on the Apple Remote, iTunes opens and begins playing. The same thing happens when you hit the pause/play button on the media bar. I thought I was becoming dyslexic because iTunes kept playing randomly. It was only until today when I discovered this bug while playing a file in VLC. Apparently it happens with pretty much any app.

Oct 23, 2009I got my new 13" MBP two weeks ago and I've been using the F8 button solely for playing and pausing songs in iTunes. I think it's great to have this because I can easily stop my music when I want to watch a youtube video and the audio is coming from somewhere else and not iTunes for example The problem is, whenever I press the F8 button now, it stops the song in iTunes but it starts playing a video in VLC...I checked both system preferences and VLC preferences but couldn't find anywhere to control what the F8 button controls.

Mar 14, 2009I upgraded to iTunes 8.1 when it showed up on Software Update. Since then, I've noticed that when I hit the Play button to play anything in my Library, there is a long pause (about 6-7 seconds) before the audio file starts playing. Have any of you had this happen to you?
This is on 10.4.11 on my iMac G5. My drive is getting short on space (and I'm aware of issues do to short drive space ), but it didn't do this before the upgrade to 8.1. Let me know your thoughts...

May 25, 2012I just got a 16 gig iPhone. I have 8.7 gigs of music, 0.07 gigs of photos, and 0.13 gigs of apps. However, I have 2.3 gigs of "other." I had this problem on my iTouch, but a simple sync fixed it. Not the case with the iPhone. I tried the easy measures, deleting browser history and texts, and that brought it down from 2.5 to the afore mentioned 2.3 gigs. Searching the Internet, one solution that seemed to work for a bunch of people was checking the "open itunes when this iphone is connected" button and then unclicking it, then syncing. On mine, however, it will not allow me to press that button. All the other buttons under "options" work, but that one is faded and will not allow me to click on it.

Right now I have iTunes open playing music, as well as a paused video in VLC. When I press the play/pause button (F8) on my black late 2008 MacBook, it pauses iTunes but then unpauses the VLC video. This is obviously totally unwanted behavior. How do I fix this so that this button only controls one app at a time?

Feb 10, 2008I have a iBook G4 laptop and there seems to be something very wrong with it. It started a few days ago just randomly. I was reading something on the internet and the screen went black on me, but the power was still on (I clicked CAPS LOCK to see if there was power). I then proceeded to push the power button and the power went off. When I pressed the power button again to turn it on, it made that internal noise it always makes and then the fan came on, and wouldn't turn off. There was no picture on the screen at all. Completely dead. But there was power, because when I clicked on the CAPS LOCK, the light came on). I tried pressing on the power button for at least 15 seconds and even went as long as a minute, and the power didn't go off.

Jun 20, 2012My MacBook Pro Retina Display laptop is having display refresh issues. hard to explain whats going on, but its basicly lagging. When I open a new window, not everything shows up, sometimes only a button will show up. If the whole window does show up and I try to move it, the frame will be ghosted where every I move it. The only way I found to fix this is to restart the computer.
