Software :: Tried To Use The Internet And Skype, But The Skype Didn't Work At All?
Jun 5, 2008I have reached this website after scrawling to find a solution on the internet. I hope someone can help me with this problem.I have a 4 years old G4 ibook (OS 10.3.7), and have been using it for internet, skype and foto-storage mainly.Situtation:Yesterday I tried to use the internet (Firefox browser) and skype, but the skype didn't work at all. Since firefox was not working properly either, I did force quit and restarted the computer. I attempted this several times until I could use both applications (never had any problems before). However, Skype didn't work, and in the end, I could not quit firefox at all. At last I did force quit again, and saw white screen with apple icon at the centre when restarting. No time-spinning mark, the apple just sits there.
Troubleshooting that I have done:
I called up support center, and they told me that it's very likey that the computer is stopping at "'carnel" stage (I'm sorry but I don't know what this is). The possibility that it's got something to do with HD is 50/50, so I may have to send it to repairing service in the worst case. They told me to try using Disc Install CD1 to check/repair something wrong in my computer. So I followed the instructions and inserted the install CD and restart the computer with "c" key. The computer read the CD and Installer window showed up. As instructed in a manual, I used First Aid in Disc Utility, and tried "repairing disc". After a while it said "1 HFS has been repaired". It also said that Macintosh HD doesn't seem to have a problem", so I quit the disc utility and restarted the computer.
Against my expectation, the same white screen with apple came up on the screen and sits there with no other movements.I'm afraid of trying somethinig without further so I hope I can get the same story or ideas that someone here might have.
MacBook Pro :: Can't Delete Skype Dmg File As It Says Skype Is In Use While It Is Not In Use?
Jun 14, 2010On the right hand side of my desktop when I download a program it seems to put an icon or doc on the right hand side. Like right now I have a skype dmg file I can't delete as it says Skype is in use, then right above that is a seperate skype icon that even if I drag to dock it still stays on the right hand side (like a copy), then I downloaded open office again and it put the install icon there (like when you open and you drag your program to teh applications folder)

My ichat and photobooth both work too. I've tried everything even deleting the camcamx5.component file but I don't have it.

Feb 21, 2008I'm trying to install Skype (for mac latest version) on an ibook G4 (running 10.3.9). Should be compatible. It downloads okay. It drags to the applications folder okay. It won't launch, however. If you try and launch it nothing happens. The menu bar doesn't change. Other applications download okay and run okay - but not Skype. I've tried deleting it completely and then downloading it again about 4 times and same problem each time. I tried dragging a shortcut to the dock, too, but it won't launch from that either.

Jan 2, 2009I installed Skype on my new macbook (13" 2.0 Gz) a few months ago. However, I've had a problem and I just don't know how to fix it! You know when you download an application, it comes onto your desktop and you're supposed to drag the Icon into the Applications file? Well, my Skype won't do that. It will drag into it, but then it says it already exists. Thus, I still have that ugly icon on my desktop instead of the regular one. I've tried to eject and reinstall, but nothing works.

May 9, 2009I am using Skype 2.7 on Mac OSX Tiger. I couldn't see any place where I can export the contacts list so that if at any other point, I can import them back if needed. If Apple script is there to achieve this, its much better to maintain it.

What worries me more, though, is the fact that my account was hacked despite only being used on a Mac. Any ideas as to how this might have happened? I have the OS X firewall switched on, and have WPA2 security activated on my AirPort Express.I know that malware isn't usually a concern with Macs, but is it conceivable that I have something nasty running in the background? If I have, I have no idea where I might have got it from.

I mainly use the chat feature to chat with a friend of mine, but out of nowhere it stopped displaying what I was typing. I can hear the sound it makes when you enter a text or receive a message, but it isn't being displayed in the window. May 14, 2010I have skype going, I pay for both a skype in and out number, and I want it to go to voicemail even if I am online.
Right now, it just rings and rings and never goes to voicemail unless I decline the call or shut down the application. Which means if I am not there to answer, it just rings and never goes to voicemail.
On the skype website, it says to go to "Tools > options > calls > voicemail" to set the number of seconds before it goes to voicemail.... but that option doesn't exist in the OS X skype client!

Mar 8, 2009I am studying for a year in South Africa and using internet behind a college proxy. Beyond the annoyances of only having 300 MB/month of internet, I am especially frustrated because I can't use skype, ichat, or google talk to stay in touch with people back home. I've tried everything; With skype, i downloaded authoxy, which corrects for the fact that skype takes its proxy settings from the network settings (I'm not a computer expert so I may have that wrong, but regardless, I followed the directions and tinkered with it some more and it failed). Then I downloaded the beta version of the latest skype, per customer support directions, and still no luck--i can't even sign on.
The same goes for iChat. Even google talk, which operates within the browser, will only allow text chat. When I try voice or video, it fails. None of this happens to students with a pc.

Sep 30, 2009Skype, Adium, IPhoto, Photobooth and preview have all just disappeared from my hard disk. I suspect someone might have been on my computer without me knowing but it seems unlikely they would've accidentally deleted all of that. Is there anyway I can get preview,iphoto,photobooth back without the apple cds? I'm afraid I don't have them anymore. Is there also any way I can check some sort of log to see what might have happened...

Skype is the app that keeps crashing the most, Safari and Firefox crash from time to time as well... and Mail.app crashes sometimes when Skype and Safari crash...
I already perform a fresh installation of the OS and no luck. I also kept on doing "repair disk permissions" with Disk Utility but also no luck...
The last time I performed a Tech Deluxe check and all test passed...
I think the problem can be either disk issues or faulty memory... in the worst of the worst motherboard .
