so i downloaded little snitch for the mac and didn't like it so i removed it from the application folder. it is still existent in my tool bar up top and i can't go to preferences in it but it still has pop ups saying what application is trying to do what and it tells me that i need to upgrade it. point being i just want to completely get rid of it. how do i do that?
View 6 RepliesI just removed over 1000 cookies. They were bogging the system down to the point of having some pages freeze. I then closed Safari. I launched Safari again a few minutes later and all the cookies were back, even though the only site I went to was the Apple open page.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI've just noticed that in my Finder window sidebar, under "Shared", I have a character called Thomson listed. I don't know any Thomson and I bought the machine, an MBA, brand new. However, I did have an engineer instal the machine in my apartment and can only assume he's the mysterious Thomson. Anyway, whoever he/she is, I don't want him/her on my machine as Shared & "connected as guest". The point is, I cannot find a way to delete Thomson!! Can anyone help? I've tried System Preferences>Security and Accounts and there's no trace of Thomson there. Right clicking on Thomson in the sidebar of Finder only gives me the option to Open and Get Info. Most annoying, this. There MUST be a way to delete a Sharing but totally unwanted guest....

View 1 Replies View RelatedNow I know how this looks... but trust me, I'm not here to commit piracy. I just wish to see my TV shows/Movies on my big screen. My FreeSat box has a USB port which reads many many file formats, but not iTunes protected .m4v's.
Is there any way at all to remove the DRM and convert the files into something like .mp4 or .avi or .mpg? I know it isn't strictly legal, but I'm not forking out �99 for a TV and having another household running appliance when my FreeSat box can do just a good a job.
Does anyone know how one would go about disabling and removing the Mac App Store outside of using Parental Controls? Here's what I've tried:
1. Trashing App Store.app entirely - which seems to re-assign the "App Store" link in the Apple menu back to "Mac OS X Downloads..."; the only problem is that when you attempt to open a file type that OS X doesnt recognize, the dialog asks you if you want to search the App Store at which point you hit the button and it does nothing. Not a proper solution.
I have just upgraded to 10.6.6 and App Store has installed itself on the Dock. I wish to remove it from the Dock as (a) I am unlikely to use it, and (b) I don't want a cluttered Dock.
However whenever I drag the icon off the dock and it disappears in the traditional cloud of smoke, the next time I start up the computer the icon is back on the dock.
For some reason since installing a new OS I can't remove programs from my Dock anymore? I used to be able to just right click on the program and select remove from dock but everything program I now right click on says "show in finder" with no other options to delete it. I've only just recently installed OS X 10.3.9 (I can't remember what I used to have on here as this was a new OS CD).

How do you remove iTunes artwork? I have tried to drag it out or replace with a new cover but I still cant remove the original. I used one of those software apps that import all cover artwork and now some of U2 collection has a Prince album cover on! so...I have a macbook pro and recently I put several applications on the desktop: itunes and safari now, i want to remove these applications from my desktop WITHOUT deleting them and reinstalling them
another problem is i downloaded skype for my mac, and then i put it on the desktop
i didn't like it like that, so i tried to get it off the desktop
i ended up deleting it and reinstalling it, which is my first problem
i reinstalled it and now there's this symbol on my desktop
it's like a symbol you get when you insert a usb drive into the computer, except its blue and has a skype logo on it
I am going to manually remove each duplicate, but my ? is when you click on show duplicates...is that every copy of that song in itunes or is there still another copy that isn't showing when you select this?

I recently installed iFlicks, which seemed to install some Scripts into Itunes and add this menu option. I have since removed iFlicks using appzapper, yet it has not been removed. I also looked in library/iTunes/ and found no folder with scripts or anything similar. My last attempt has been to install iFlicks again and uninstall, but to no avail.

is there no way to remove 'core' applications like Safari, AppsStore, PhotoBooth etc. NONE of which I want or need ... I have favoured applications which I which to continue to use and these others are just clutter which take up space in the applications folder .....Â
trying to delete them just throws up a "this is needed by the System" message ..... You can't even move them or hide them .... I find it difficult to believe that either AppsStore or Safari is needed by any system (apart from the Apple accounting system).... Whatever happened to the 'user friendly' Macs I've known for so many years. Do I really have to put up with Apple deciding what applications I want or need?Â

Installed VMware Fusion.
Installed my Mac applications including Unison. All of the RAR files are associated with XP on Parallels!
The only thing I can think of is that I had Parallels installed on my computer before and somehow when I had my Super Duper drive attached to my new install it picked up something from that?
How do I get rid of all this stuff? How do I set certain things like .exe fies to unknown (or at the very least Fusion)?
I have my Gmail account setup with IMAP in Mail 3.0 (Leopard), with about half a dozen labels that of course appear as folders in Mail's sidebar. Labels that I create myself appear as normal folders and look quite nice and neat, but Gmail has it's own "[Google Mail]" folder (which has a white folder icon rather than the default blue?) which contains my All Mail and Starred folders. Ideally I would like both the All Mail and Starred folders to appear in my mailbox section along with drafts, junk, ect. - but I know that this is probably not possible. But I'd be happy to settle for just removing the [Google Mail] folder and having All Mail and Starred appear as normal folders. Dragging them out of the [GM] folder gives me the following error; "The IMAP command "RENAME" (to All Mail) failed with server error: Folder name "All Mail" is not allowed. (Failure). So obviously it's trying to move the All Mail folder on the Gmail server itself, which Gmail doesn't like. I've also tried changing the IMAP path prefix in account setting to [Google Mail], which put All Mail and Starred as normal folders but then removed all my other folders and screwed with my messages - I was forced to revert to my old setting and re-download all my messages again. All 7500+ of them. Does anybody know of any hacks or plugins or workarounds that could help me out here? I know it's silly and OCD-ish, but it really bugs me having this [Google Mail] folder in my sidebar.
View 1 Replies View RelatedUnlike Windows, this damn-ded MacOS X won't ask what to do when moving several items with the same name to a single location. In Vista and 7, it asks if you want to replace all similarly named items with a single of the items or if you want to put all of the similarly named items in the new location and append an annotation at the end of the file name. (I think Windows appends "Copy #" to duplicates) So, I'm left with, "File, File 2, File 3, file 4" in a single folder. I need an Automator action to sort this out and simply move or delete the duplicates.
The simplest action I can think is: Ask for files>get files>select files with similar filenames, neglecting the last characters if they are numerals>reference the size (with accuracy of 1 byte) of selected files>label files of the same size red>select red files>move red files to a selected folder. How can I get these sort of tools? I need a measuring action and another action that will compare file names...
I want my desktop to simply be the icons. Reason being, i am using Kobhens theme, and would like to have the name be in the icon, and not repeated below. Any way of making the name transparent or anything else?

So, if I drag firefox out of applications and onto a pendrive, will i be able to stop it working and then drag it back on the next day? (I know it would work with most apps, but I don't know where firefox keeps passwords and cookies etc)
