View 2 RepliesI just removed over 1000 cookies. They were bogging the system down to the point of having some pages freeze. I then closed Safari. I launched Safari again a few minutes later and all the cookies were back, even though the only site I went to was the Apple open page.

After having some issues with chrome (huge cache) I decided to remove it. I also removed the shortcut/icon from the dock. Every time I restart the computer I have a question mark where Crome used to be. I zapped the PRAM, repaired permissions, even restarted and went trough the permission repair process at startup. I tried to install Chrome and uninstall through a3rd party uninstaller and get the same. It does not appear in my startup applications I have no other users registered. Terminal also starts up automatically at every startup (not in startup items). It is driving me up the wall! I even removed the desktop plist. What else can be done?

I just realized my Archive.mbox (~/Library/Mail/V2/Mailboxes) is quite big (8.5GB) and I decided to remove old mails with large attachments.Â
As I use GMail account via POP3, first I removed mails from the Google account and I freed up about 1.5GB extra space. Later, I searched for mails with attachments in Mail.app, then sorted then and started to remove and emptied the trash. This operation was quite weird as some of them where moved to the Trash folder, some not. As I was controlling the space of the Mailboxes folder this is what I noticed:
- Archive.mbox - the size of the mbox didn't change.
- Deleted Messages.mbox increases while removing another mails then decreased while wiping it out (this is what I expected).
I removed a lot of mails and didn't free up ANY space! Also, while googling I found out about "Mail Downloads" folder which is moved from Library to ~/Library/Containers/com.apple.mail/Data/Library/Mail Downloads. As I set "Remove unedited downloads" to "When Mail Quits" can I simply remove all subdirs from this dictionary to save some space? This folder is only used for copy of attachments, right? Â

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm a first-time Mac user with a brand new MBP. One thing that is annoying me (and I'm hoping it's just something I'm missing) is this. Every once in a while I will have an application running but not viewable (the icon is on the right-side of the dock, but to the left of the vertical line). If I click on the icon, it doesn't restore back up on the screen. The menu bar shows that it's running, but the only way I can get it back up on the screen is to quit it from the menu bar and then run it again. Feels like a bug - any way to restore applications back to the screen when this happens?

View 2 Replies View RelatedHow would one go about editing a PDF. Also, if I edit it, I don't want anyone to be able to "undo" my changes and reveal the old content. It would also be nice if possible, if there is a way to "lock" the file such that it cannot be edited further.
View 1 Replies View RelatedCan this ONLY be down via the Library? That's the only time I ever find myself clicking on it, is to delete songs. Is there any way at all for me to delete through the play list through an addon, script, etc?
View 1 Replies View RelatedFor some reason my mac always resets my 'open with' preferences if I restart my computer.
So for instance, even if I go through the usual route of selecting a program as the default player (select file/get info/open with/change all), as soon as I restart my mac it will always revert back to the default players and not the newly selected one.
Is there a work around? A setting in OSX which im missing? Or perhaps a third party app which can handle this?
on permanently removing the date and time that seems t not go away in notebook view??? Also seems to not go away in publishing layout..

how do I remove/delete applications? I recently installed a program that came with a bunch of other secondary applications. I've removed the entire program but for some reason, 2 of the secondary programs refuse to be deleted. I can't find them in the Applications folder and I didn't download it from the App Store.

As much as I trust him, I have a suspicion he might vandalise my facebook or bid on something on ebay, since firefox remembers my passwords. So, if I drag firefox out of applications and onto a pendrive, will i be able to stop it working and then drag it back on the next day? (I know it would work with most apps, but I don't know where firefox keeps passwords and cookies etc)

View 5 Replies View RelatedIs there any way to get the "mail" icon above the dotted line in the dock so it is available every time I start up ala iTunes/Finder/Safari/Preview?. I have an issue that is affecting both my MBP and iMac. I believe it is due to a Blackberry mobile phone but not entirely sure.Â
In the bluetooth prefs, when i click the 'advanced' button, my computers are listing 2 extra serial ports, both default as active (on} and with no authentication.
I have tried deleting the bluetooth preferences file but it makes no difference. Every time i delete these serial ports, they reappear a short time later and also on every restart. It is as if the bluetooth defaults have been permanently modified Â
The reason i found these odd settings was because a bluetooth PAN had mysteriously appeared in my network settings. This happened on both my computers so maybe it is possible that i have inadvertently installed a trojan on both machines. Also, going back a few months, i had to call Apple to remove an iPhone that had been added under my Apple ID. I have never owned an iPhone so i wonder if this bluetooth issue is related to that.Â
I have tried to find any terminal commands that can alter the bluetooth defaults but not had any success ...
