For some reason since installing a new OS I can't remove programs from my Dock anymore? I used to be able to just right click on the program and select remove from dock but everything program I now right click on says "show in finder" with no other options to delete it. I've only just recently installed OS X 10.3.9 (I can't remember what I used to have on here as this was a new OS CD).
How do I remove icons for applications from the Lion dock? I have a new iMac and can't use the normal drag and remove "poof" or add by dragging from applications folder.
I don't know what happened but for some reason, I can no longer right click or remove any items from my Dock
I have Onyx installed which has an option to lock the dock, however that is off. I am certain that my dock isn't locked because I am able to move items around the dock, and also add new items
I don't know when this started but it may have been because I was changing the dock's appearance by replacing some of the pictures in the system files (frontline.png, separator.png etc.)
I've restarted my Macbook a couple of times and have also done killall Dock in the terminal but everytime, I still have these two problems
Also, when booting up my Macbook now, the dock takes much longer to load. Before, it would usually be one of the quicker things to bootup but now it is always the last (before Quicksilver was usually the last program to load for me)
I also used a Terminal command to add a "Recent Applications" stack by following instructions posted here: [URL]
I've since removed this Stack but the problem still occurs. Don't know whether or not this had an impact or not
I have recently had to re-install the operating system, but I can no longer remove items from the dock. I used to be able to drag items off but I can no longer do this. I have Snow Leopard Version 10.6.8. I have tried to repair permissions, but this has not changed anything
Any time I try to remove an icon from the dock or an item from the login items and then logout/restart they come right back. It's like OS X is remembering my last login and then just duplicating it. I can't get it to keep it the settings I give it. Google and a quick search of the forums gave me nothing.
I have just upgraded to 10.6.6 and App Store has installed itself on the Dock. I wish to remove it from the Dock as (a) I am unlikely to use it, and (b) I don't want a cluttered Dock.
However whenever I drag the icon off the dock and it disappears in the traditional cloud of smoke, the next time I start up the computer the icon is back on the dock.
Is there a way to remove adium's dock icon? It seems rather repetitive to have it both in the status bar and dock. I know I can remove the status bar icon, but I'm pressed for space on the dock. Any ideas? Thanks!
What would be a good way, if possible, to change the colors and such of the icons in my dock? I wanna make them all black and white, with some splashes of red in there. Also, any other parts of my OS that I could customize to the same color scheme would be nice. I have Leopard, 10.5.2, if you need that info.
They have terrible file management skills and the short version is that they tend to use the desktop as a documens folder. I'm working on this but in the mean time there is a problem where when they save a file from e-mail or what have you it goes to the desktop. Which has items in the first 8 positions. The ninth position is behind the dock and rather then moving up to the next column it goes right behind the dock.
I have MacBook Pro version 10.9.4. I can't add or delete items on my dock . Whenever I try to press the icon and try to drag it, it shows a option bar. I want to edit my dock, but I can't. I tried to reset my .plist, killall Dock, and set my dock options to default, but the dock still refuses to move.
I had some folders on an external HDD that I moved to the trash and then I moved around the folders on my external HDD and renamed some. Now the items that I moved to the Trash won't delete! They no longer have their normals icons and instead have the plain white piece of paper icon.
It seems the Trash can't delete them because it can't find the file's original file path. The items only reappear in my Trash when I connect the HDD but it's still really annoying.
Went to empty my trash folder and found that there are thousands of items to be removed contained in 43 folders. On clicking empty trash a new box came up and a blue blinking bar went across identifying the empty process. But the items still remain in trash. Is this a virus attack or similar? Mac OS X 10.6.8.
I want to add the icon for my Mac to the desktop, but don't know how to do so. Also, the ICal icon appears both on my desktop and in the dock. When I try to remove it from the desktop, it also disappears from the dock, which I don't want to do. How can I do this addition and subtraction?
Unable to remove login items (Revert after reboot) iOX10.5 iMac
I am having issues and permanent encounter in having my removed login items reappearing after reboot. I have very MANY of the same programs in 'open at Login accounts' eg: Messenger,Safari,Skype,Evernote,Dropbox, antivirus, but they are listed dozens of times. in this 'open at login' area.
Here's the steps I have taken:
1) Open Applications, Account Preferences, cluck my administrator acc, select program to delete, click on - and wait.
2) Remove some login items (with or without unlocking the lock, doesn't seem make a difference, tried both)
3) Login items are now fewer
4) Reboot
5) voila, the removed login items are still loaded and displayed in login item tab.

If I press "command" "A" and than "command" "delete", will it erase only the duplicates and keep the one original file? Or will this delete the duplicate and the song I wish to keep?
How do I remove locked items from trash? I want to delete unneeded (duplicate) backup files that were on an external disk. I have not succeeded using empty trash or secure empty trash. I am the administrator. Mac OS X (10.9.3) Mavericks.
I'm having a strange problem with my dock and dashboard, whenever I add Items to either they quickly vanish, not allowing me to change them. With the dock, I can't add Flash CS4 to the dock, it will just appear, then disappear. With the dashboard, I can't add any widgets I've downloaded without the dashboard closing to desktop. I've tried reinstalling the widgets, no luck. Has anyone had this problem before, or know how to fix it?
Has anybody had any experience with Dock items disappearing? I simply drag and drop the desired application I was to remain in the Dock, and within 10 seconds it just disappears from the Dock! I haven't un-installed the application. I did have Dock items selected to Sync in MobileMe, but I disabled that as a test. I've also tried right-clicking the application while it's open, and selecting the 'Keep in Dock' option, but same result. After about 10 seconds of closing the app, it disappears from the Dock. I've run Repair Disk Permissions, no effect. I found a similar thread on this forum, but it suggested basically wiping the Mac and starting again, which I don't really find as a solution!
I was trying to delete one album from itunes, so i quickly ctrl A, delete, move files to trash, enter, then all of a sudden I realize my entire library was highlighted and deleting to my trash can! so now I have a trash can full of music and I can't figure out how to get it all back to itunes music folder or even out of the can! ahh plz help!I guess I can drag Items from the trash to my desktop, but I need to bring back like 9000 things from the trash which all deleted individually so dragging them all to my desktop doesnt sound like a good idea. Does anyone know how to remove 360 Controller Driver Daemon from the Startup Items on an iMac? I downloaded this so I could use an Xbox 360 wireless controller for Onlive but since downloading this I get a conflicting driver error when I load up Onlive. I thought I'd deleted this from my mac but I can still see this sitting in System Information/ Software/ Startup Items but I can't remove from here. It does not display in my System Preferences to allow me to remove from the Startup Items?
I've had my Macbook for a couple years. I'm not someone who downloads a ton of stuff, but I suspect that my sluggish performance is due to the many startup items I have.Using iBoost, I've identified many, and know where they are, but I don't know which ones are necessary. [code]
